Home Care in Southwark
Personal care, live-in care, complex care and nail care at home across Bermondsey, Rotherhithe, Peckham, Camberwell, Walworth and Dulwich.
One borough, several different problems
Southwark changes character every half mile, and so does the care. A ninth-floor flat in Walworth with a lift that is out of service is a different proposition from a Victorian house in Dulwich with a bathroom on the first floor, which is different again from a converted warehouse in Rotherhithe.
We work across the borough: Bermondsey and Rotherhithe, Elephant and Castle and Walworth, Camberwell and Peckham, Nunhead and Dulwich, Herne Hill and Surrey Quays.
Flats, lifts and getting in
A large share of Southwark's older residents live in flats, often in blocks, and that raises practical questions a suburban agency never has to think about. Whether the lift works. Whether there is a key safe. How a carer gets through a door entry system at seven in the morning. Whether a hospital bed can physically be delivered to a fourth-floor landing.
These sound like details. They are the difference between a care package that runs and one that quietly fails in week three. We work them out at the assessment rather than discovering them on the first morning.
Hospital discharges here are fast. Southwark residents are typically discharged from Guy's, King's College Hospital at Denmark Hill, or St Thomas' across the river. Discharge teams move at speed, and the packages that hold up are the ones arranged before the discharge date, not on it. Call us as soon as a discharge is being discussed.
What we provide in Southwark
Questions families in Southwark ask
Which parts of Southwark do you cover?
The whole borough, including Bermondsey, Rotherhithe, Surrey Quays, Elephant and Castle, Walworth, Camberwell, Peckham, Nunhead, East Dulwich, Dulwich Village and Herne Hill.
Can you manage care in a block of flats with door entry?
Yes. We agree access arrangements before the first visit, whether that is a key safe, a fob, or a family member letting carers in. It is one of the first things we sort out.
Can you support a discharge from King's or Guy's?
Often, yes, and the earlier you call the better. If we cannot staff the package safely we will tell you at once so you can approach someone else without losing days.
Will Southwark Council fund the care?
It depends on a needs assessment and a financial assessment. Some people also qualify for NHS Continuing Healthcare, which is not means tested. Our guide to paying for care sets out both routes.
