Care Jobs for Enfield Residents

If you live in Enfield, you can apply to work for us as a live-in carer anywhere in London, or as a support worker at our supported living home in Uxbridge, the nearest of our three homes to the borough. Visiting care is harder. Our office and most of our visiting work are in south-east London, which is about an hour's journey even from Edmonton.

Which role fits where you live in Enfield?

Enfield runs from the North Circular to the M25, and your nearest train line matters.

Live-in carer: possible from any part of Enfield

A live-in carer moves into the client's home for a set period and has their own bedroom there. The work covers personal care, meals, medication support, housework and company through the day. You stay where you work, so living in Enfield Lock or Winchmore Hill makes no difference. You get proper breaks and time off, with cover arranged. Placements can be anywhere in London; say if you prefer north London, though we cannot promise it. Our live-in care page describes the service from the family's side.

Support worker in supported living: Uxbridge is the realistic home

Our homes are in Uxbridge, Whitton and Kingston upon Thames. Support workers there help adults cook, manage money, get out and about, and do more for themselves (see the supported living page).

  • Uxbridge by car takes roughly 45 to 60 minutes. Use the M25 if you live in the north of the borough, or the A406 and A40 from Palmers Green, Southgate or Edmonton.
  • Uxbridge by Tube works best from the west of the borough. The Piccadilly line runs from Arnos Grove, Southgate, Oakwood and Cockfosters to Uxbridge on Uxbridge-branch trains, but expect about 1 hour 30 minutes or more, possibly with a change at Acton Town or Rayners Lane.
  • Whitton and Kingston are 1 hour 30 minutes or more away, which is a lot for regular shifts.

All of Enfield is inside the ULEZ, so if you would drive an older car, check it on TfL's ULEZ page first.

Visiting carer: only if you can get to south-east London

Visiting carers go from one client's home to the next through the day, and most of our visiting work is near our Lewisham office. From Edmonton Green or Silver Street, the Overground Weaver line to Liverpool Street and then the DLR or a Southeastern train to Lewisham take about 55 to 65 minutes. From Enfield Town, Palmers Green or Southgate it is more like 65 to 80 minutes. That is a hard daily commute. If you want visiting work anyway, tell us where you could realistically get to and we will say honestly whether anything fits.

We have no office in Enfield. Our only office is at Tower House, 67-71 Lewisham High Street, SE13. If we meet you in person, it will be there.

What does the work involve?

Our CQC registration covers personal care for adults under and over 65, including people living with dementia, physical disabilities or sensory impairments. Some of the people we support are nearing the end of their lives. A typical day can include:

  • Help with washing, dressing and continence care
  • Medication prompts, recorded properly
  • Moving and handling, including hoists where used
  • Cooking, shopping and keeping the home clean
  • Company, walks and appointments
  • Noticing changes and reporting them

The checks we must legally carry out

As a CQC-registered provider, we have to complete these checks before you start work:

  1. An enhanced DBS check through the Disclosure and Barring Service, including a check of the adults' barred list.
  2. Your right to work in the UK, checked under the government's right to work rules, including any limit on the hours you can work.
  3. References, including your most recent employer and any previous employer in care.

New to care? The Care Certificate

If you have not worked in care before, you will work through the Care Certificate, the Skills for Care standards that cover safeguarding, dignity, communication, infection control and more. Support workers in supported living also receive the learning disability and autism training that registered providers are required to give.

How much do care jobs in Enfield pay?

We do not publish pay rates, because pay depends on the role. Ask us when you get in touch and we will tell you plainly.

Enfield FAQs

Questions from Enfield applicants

Questions families ask us about Enfield. If yours is not here, ask us directly.

Ask a question
I live near Edmonton Green. Is visiting work realistic?

Edmonton is the closest part of Enfield to our visiting work. The Weaver line goes straight to Liverpool Street, and Lewisham is a short onward journey from there. Even so, it takes about an hour each way. Tell us your hours and we will check whether anything fits.

I live in Enfield Lock and drive. Could I work at the Uxbridge home?

Possibly. From the north-east of the borough, the M25 is the most direct route, and it takes roughly 45 to 60 minutes depending on traffic. Think about whether you could keep that drive up for regular shifts before you apply.

I have worked as a personal assistant paid through an Enfield direct payment. Does that count?

Yes, tell us about it. Enfield pays direct payments onto a prepaid E-Card, and they can be used to employ a personal assistant. Your employer could give a reference, and we would talk through which parts of the Care Certificate you still need.

I don't drive and live in Palmers Green. What is open to me?

Live-in work is the easiest, because you travel to a placement and stay there. Palmers Green is on the Great Northern line to Moorgate, so getting to south-east London or Uxbridge every day would take a long time.
