Carer and Support Worker Jobs for Haringey Residents
Yes, you can work for us from Haringey, though most of the work is not in Haringey itself. Live-in carer roles are open to anyone in London, and our Uxbridge supported living home is at the end of the Piccadilly line through Wood Green. Visiting care work is mainly in south-east London, which is realistic from the Victoria line end of the borough and much harder from Muswell Hill or Crouch End.
Three kinds of role, and how each works from Haringey
We are a small, owner-managed agency with one office, in Lewisham, and no base in Haringey. What works depends on the role and where in the borough you live.
Live-in carer
Your postcode matters least here. A live-in carer moves into the client's home, has their own bedroom, and helps them through the day. A placement can be anywhere in London, so someone from Northumberland Park can take one in Greenwich or Hornsey. You are entitled to proper breaks and time off, and we arrange cover. Our live-in care page explains the role from the family's side.
Visiting carer
Visiting rounds depend on where our clients are, which is mainly south-east London, near our office at Tower House, 67-71 Lewisham High Street. We can't promise visiting work in Haringey.
The Victoria line makes the east of the borough workable. From Seven Sisters it is two stops to Highbury & Islington (three from Tottenham Hale), where the Overground Windrush line runs south without a change to stations such as New Cross Gate, Brockley and Honor Oak Park. Reaching Lewisham takes about 45 to 55 minutes. From Crouch End or Muswell Hill, which have no station, allow 60 to 75 minutes each way. Driving isn't easier: Haringey has around 40 controlled parking zones, and all of London is inside the ULEZ.
Support worker at a supported living home
Our homes are in Uxbridge, Whitton (Twickenham) and Kingston upon Thames. Support workers help adults run their own lives: cooking, budgeting, getting to appointments, seeing friends and building confidence. From Haringey:
- Uxbridge: one Piccadilly line train from Bounds Green, Wood Green or Turnpike Lane, about 75 to 85 minutes. Some trains terminate at Heathrow, so check the destination.
- Whitton: about 80 to 90 minutes. Take the Suffragette line from South Tottenham or Harringay Green Lanes to Gospel Oak, the Mildmay line to Richmond, then a South Western Railway train.
- Kingston: about 80 to 90 minutes via Richmond and a bus.
These are long commutes, so test them at the times you'd travel. More on our supported living page.
What a shift involves
- Personal care: washing, dressing, continence care and helping someone to the toilet
- Prompting or giving medication, and recording every dose
- Cooking and helping people eat and drink enough
- Moving and handling, sometimes with a hoist or stand aid
- Light housework, shopping and errands
- Writing clear care notes, and telling the office promptly if something changes
We are registered with the CQC to care for adults with dementia, physical disabilities and sight or hearing loss, and we also provide palliative care.
How much do care jobs pay for someone living in Haringey?
We don't publish pay rates here, because they depend on the role. Ask when you contact us and we'll tell you plainly.
Checks and training before you start
As a CQC-registered provider, we have to complete these checks before you work with anyone:
- An enhanced DBS check with a check of the adults' barred list, carried out through the Disclosure and Barring Service.
- Your right to work in the UK, which we must see before your first shift, under the government's right to work rules. If your visa restricts your hours, we have to keep to it.
- References, including your most recent employer and any previous job in care.
If you have looked after a parent, volunteered, or held a job where people relied on you, tell us. People new to care are trained to the Care Certificate standards published by Skills for Care. The law also requires training in learning disability and autism, which matters most for support work at our homes.

Questions from Haringey applicants
Questions families ask us about Haringey. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionI live near Tottenham Hale. Could I do visiting work in south-east London?
It is one of the better starting points in the borough, because the Victoria line connects at Highbury & Islington with Windrush line trains heading south. Whether a round exists for you depends on where our clients are at the time, so ask us when you apply.
I'm in Muswell Hill without a car. Which role suits me?
Live-in work is the most practical, because you don't commute once a placement starts. Uxbridge is also possible: take a bus to a Piccadilly line station such as Bounds Green or Finsbury Park and take an Uxbridge train to the end of the line.
Would a live-in placement ever be in Haringey?
It can be. Placements can be anywhere in London, so one could be in Haringey, but we can't promise a local one.
Where would I go for an interview?
We usually start with a phone call. If we meet in person, it is at our Lewisham office. From Seven Sisters or Tottenham Hale, take the Victoria line to Victoria and a Southeastern train to Lewisham. From Wood Green or Turnpike Lane, change from the Piccadilly line to the Victoria line at Finsbury Park.
I have cared for my mum at home but never worked in care. Can I still apply?
Yes. Tell us what that involved. New carers train to the Care Certificate standards before working alone.
