Care Jobs for Hounslow Residents

If you live in Hounslow, the role with the easiest commute is support worker at our Whitton supported living home, one stop from Hounslow station. Live-in carer roles are open to you too, because live-in work doesn't depend on where you live. Regular visiting care is the hard one: our only office is in Lewisham, well over an hour away.

Which role fits your part of Hounslow?

The borough runs from the Thames at Chiswick to the edge of Heathrow, so it depends on your postcode:

  • Hounslow, Isleworth, Hanworth, Feltham (TW3, TW4, TW7, TW13, TW14): the Whitton home is 10 to 20 minutes away by bus or car.
  • Heston and Cranford (TW5): Whitton is reachable through Hounslow. Our Uxbridge home is about 30 to 40 minutes by road if that suits your journey better.
  • Brentford and Chiswick (TW8, W4): Hounslow Loop trains from Chiswick, Kew Bridge or Brentford run through Hounslow to Whitton. Chiswick is also the only part of the borough where getting to Lewisham is even close to workable.
  • Anywhere in the borough: live-in roles, since you move in with the client.

Support worker at our Whitton home

Whitton sits just over the River Crane in Richmond upon Thames, so for most of Hounslow this is a local job. From Hounslow station it is a single stop on the South Western Railway line towards Twickenham. From Hanworth, Feltham or Isleworth it is a short drive or bus ride. If you live in the south of the borough, our Kingston home is around 30 to 40 minutes from Hanworth and Feltham.

Residents have their own tenancies and make their own choices. Your job is to back those choices up: planning meals, sorting out a bill, or practising a bus route until it can be done alone. See our Whitton home page.

Live-in carer: any postcode works

A live-in carer moves into the client's home, has their own bedroom and supports one person or a couple, with breaks and time off built in and cover arranged by us. Because you live where the work is, a carer from Bedfont can take a placement in Bromley. Placements in Hounslow itself range from interwar semis in Heston and Feltham to Victorian terraces in Chiswick where the stairs shape the care plan. See our live-in care page.

Is there visiting care work in Hounslow?

Sometimes, and we can't promise it. Visiting rounds have to sit close together, and most of ours are near our office on Lewisham High Street, SE13: roughly 60 to 70 minutes each way from Chiswick, and 75 to 90 minutes from Hounslow, Isleworth or Feltham via Waterloo.

Visiting work inside Hounslow depends on whether we have clients there when you apply, so ask and we'll tell you honestly. If you'd drive to clients in a controlled parking zone, as in much of Chiswick, Brentford and Hounslow town centre, the client can apply for a free council carers' parking permit. It doesn't cover pay-and-display-only bays or council car parks.

A day's work, in practice

  • Washing, dressing, shaving and continence care
  • Giving or prompting medication and signing for it
  • Helping someone cook, shop and budget
  • Safe moving and handling, including hoists
  • Trips out: Osterley Park, the high street, appointments
  • Accurate notes for the next shift and the family

Clients may be living with dementia, a physical disability or sight or hearing loss, or be at the end of their life. List any languages you speak; some clients settle faster with a carer who shares one.

Do I need a qualification to become a carer in Hounslow?

No. New care workers complete the Care Certificate, the Skills for Care standards covering safeguarding, dignity, infection control, communication and person-centred care. CQC-registered providers must also train staff in learning disability and autism, which matters most at the Whitton home. If you've looked after a parent or a child with additional needs, tell us.

Three checks before your first shift

  1. Enhanced DBS check, including the adults' barred list, carried out through the Disclosure and Barring Service.
  2. Right to work in the UK, checked under the government's rules. If your visa limits your hours, we must keep you within them.
  3. References from your most recent employer and from any earlier job in care.

You won't find pay rates, vacancies or shift patterns on this page. They depend on the role and what's open when you get in touch. Ask us directly and we'll tell you.

Hounslow FAQs

Questions from Hounslow applicants

Questions families ask us about Hounslow. If yours is not here, ask us directly.

Ask a question
I live near Hounslow West and don't drive. How would I get to Whitton?

Get to Hounslow station, by bus or on foot, then take the train one stop to Whitton. There are also buses from Hounslow town centre to Whitton. Allow around half an hour door to door, more at busy times.

Is Shared Lives Hounslow the same as working for you?

No. Shared Lives Hounslow is a council scheme in which approved carers support an adult in the carer's own home and are self-employed. With us you would be a carer or support worker in a client's home or in our supported living house. Some people look at both before deciding.

Can I be interviewed somewhere in Hounslow?

We have no office in Hounslow; our only office is in Lewisham. Ask us when you apply how and where the interview would happen, and tell us if travelling to Lewisham is difficult.

I live in Chiswick. Could I do visiting rounds in south-east London?

It's possible, at an hour or more each way, but hard to sustain daily. Live-in work or the Whitton home, on the same Hounslow Loop line, may suit you better.
