Care Jobs for People Living in Ealing
If you live in Ealing, the roles that suit you best with us are support worker at our Uxbridge supported living home, which is a short trip west along the Uxbridge Road or the Piccadilly line, and live-in carer, which works from any London postcode. Visiting care is harder to offer you, because our office is in Lewisham, more than an hour away.
Three roles, and how each fits an Ealing address
- Supported living support worker: a daily commute to one of our homes in Uxbridge, Whitton or Kingston upon Thames. From an Ealing address, Uxbridge or Whitton is the realistic choice.
- Live-in carer: you stay in the client's home, so where you live doesn't matter.
- Visiting carer: realistic only if you can get to south-east London, and only occasionally available in Ealing itself.
Your commute to our supported living homes
Uxbridge is at the western end of the same road that runs through Acton, Ealing, Hanwell and Southall, which makes it the natural workplace for most of the borough:
- Acton and Ealing Common: you can board at Acton Town or Ealing Common and stay on to the end of the line at Uxbridge, as long as you catch an Uxbridge train and not a Heathrow one. Allow 30 to 40 minutes.
- Hanwell, Southall and West Ealing: one bus, the Superloop SL8, covers the whole trip along the Uxbridge Road, which helps on early or late shifts when you do not want to change. If you drive, Southall to Uxbridge is 20 to 30 minutes.
- Northolt and Greenford: 20 to 30 minutes by car along the A40. Public transport is slower, since the Central line runs to West Ruislip, not Uxbridge.
- Northfields and South Ealing: Whitton, via Hounslow, is around 35 to 45 minutes and may suit you as well as Uxbridge.
Support workers help adults run their own lives, which means cooking, budgeting, getting to appointments and getting out. The homes are described on our supported living page.
Live-in care: your postcode isn't a factor
A live-in carer moves into the client's home, has their own bedroom, and supports one person or a couple through the day. Because you live where the client lives, someone from Acton or Northolt can take a placement in any part of London, including Ealing when we have a client there. Breaks and time off are part of the arrangement, and we arrange cover. Our live-in care page shows the role from the family's side.
Can I do visiting care work from Ealing?
Probably not as your main job. Visiting carers see several people a day, and our visiting work is organised from our only office, at Tower House on Lewisham High Street, SE13. The quickest route from Ealing is the Elizabeth line to Canary Wharf and the DLR to Lewisham. That takes roughly 60 to 70 minutes from Ealing Broadway or Acton, and 75 to 90 minutes from Southall, Greenford or Northolt. That's hard to sustain daily.
Visiting work inside Ealing depends on whether we have clients there, and we can't promise it. If it's what you're after, say so when you apply and we'll tell you honestly whether anything is near you.
What the work involves
- Help with washing, dressing and using the toilet
- Prompting or giving medication, and recording it
- Cooking meals the person enjoys
- Moving and handling, sometimes with a hoist
- Going out: shops, appointments, places of worship
- Clear notes for the next person on shift
Clients may be living with dementia, a physical disability or sensory loss, or be nearing the end of life. Tell us which languages you speak and which food or faith customs you know well. Some clients settle more easily with a carer who shares them.
Training and the Care Certificate
You don't need a qualification to start. New care workers work through the Care Certificate standards set by Skills for Care, which cover safeguarding, dignity, infection control, communication and person-centred care. CQC-registered providers must also train staff in learning disability and autism, which matters most in supported living. Tell us if you've cared for a relative or volunteered.
Checks we must complete by law
Before you work with anyone, a CQC-registered provider has to carry out:
- An enhanced DBS check with the adults' barred list, through the Disclosure and Barring Service.
- A right to work check under the government's right to work rules. If your visa limits your hours, we must keep within them.
- References, including your latest employer and any past care employer.
We don't advertise pay, vacancies or shift patterns on this page. They depend on the role and what's open at the time, so ask when you get in touch and we'll give you a straight answer.

Questions from Ealing applicants
Questions families ask us about Ealing. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionIs there an office in Ealing where I can be interviewed?
No. Our only office is in Lewisham. Ask when you apply how and where your interview will be held.
I live near Southall Broadway. Which home is easiest?
Uxbridge. It's along the Uxbridge Road from Southall, by car or on the Superloop SL8, which makes it the shortest commute we can offer you.
I'm studying at the University of West London. Can I work part-time?
Tell us when you're free and we'll see whether it fits. If you're on a student visa, it limits how many hours you can work in term time, and we have to check and respect that limit as part of the right to work check.
I speak Punjabi. Does that help?
It can. Some clients are more at ease with a carer who speaks their language, so list every language you speak. We can't promise it decides where you're placed.
Will I need a car?
Not for supported living or live-in work. If you drive, remember that all of Greater London is inside the ULEZ, so check your car is compliant.
