Care Jobs for Kensington and Chelsea Residents

If you live in Kensington and Chelsea, you can work with us as a live-in carer, which you can do from any London address, or as a support worker at one of our supported living homes in Whitton, Kingston upon Thames or Uxbridge, each about an hour away. Visiting care is harder: our office is in Lewisham, and we only have visiting work in the Royal Borough when we have clients there.

Which roles suit which end of the borough?

The borough is small, but its north and south ends are on different train lines, and that decides which of our homes is a sensible commute.

  • Earl's Court, West Brompton, Kensington (Olympia) and Chelsea: Whitton or Kingston. The Overground from West Brompton or Kensington (Olympia) takes you to Clapham Junction, where South Western Railway trains run to both. The District line also runs to Richmond and Wimbledon. Allow 45 to 60 minutes. From World's End, start at Imperial Wharf on the Overground.
  • Gloucester Road and South Kensington: the Piccadilly line has some trains to Uxbridge that need no change, though many go to Heathrow instead. Check the front of the train.
  • Ladbroke Grove, Latimer Road and North Kensington: Uxbridge, by Hammersmith & City line to Hammersmith and then the Piccadilly line. That takes about 45 to 60 minutes. The Central line from Holland Park or Notting Hill Gate goes to West Ruislip and Ealing Broadway, not Uxbridge.

Live-in carers stay in the client's home for the length of a placement, so it barely matters where you live. You have your own bedroom, you support one person or a couple through the day, and your breaks and time off are part of the arrangement. Our live-in care page shows what families expect from the role.

Is there visiting care work in Kensington and Chelsea?

Sometimes, but we can't promise any. Most of our visiting work is around our office in Lewisham, SE13, roughly 40 to 50 minutes from Sloane Square via Victoria and longer from Notting Hill. If you want visiting work, tell us when you apply and we will tell you honestly whether we have any near you.

If you plan to drive between visits in the borough, know this first. The council says it cannot offer permits to businesses or visitors, so carers can't use the residents' bays and have to pay to park. All of London, including the whole borough, is inside the ULEZ. Without a car, you will rely on the Tube and buses. Chelsea south of the King's Road is a 15 to 20 minute walk from any Tube station, so King's Road buses such as the 11, 19, 22 and 49 fill the gap there.

The work itself

In every setting you help people wash, dress and use the toilet, prompt or give medication and record it, move people safely (sometimes with a hoist), cook, and spend time with them. You also write clear notes for the next person on shift. We support people living with dementia, physical disabilities and sensory loss, and people nearing the end of life. In supported living, much of the work is helping adults do things for themselves: shopping, budgeting, cooking and getting about.

Homes in this borough can make that harder: converted terraces with steep common stairs, basement flats reached by area steps, estate towers where everything depends on the lift. Carers here need to be confident moving and handling people in tight spaces.

Checks and training before you start

You don't need a care qualification to apply. If you are new to care, you will work through the Care Certificate standards from Skills for Care, which cover safeguarding, dignity, infection control, communication and person-centred care. CQC-registered providers must also train staff in learning disability and autism.

Because we are registered with the Care Quality Commission, the law requires us to complete three checks before you work with anyone:

  1. An enhanced DBS check with the adults' barred list, through the Disclosure and Barring Service. If you are already on the DBS Update Service, we can check your certificate online with your permission.
  2. A right to work check under the government's rules. If your visa limits the hours you can work, we have to keep you within that limit.
  3. References, including one from your most recent employer and one from any earlier care job.

We don't publish pay, vacancies or shift patterns on this page. They depend on the role and on what is open when you get in touch. Ask us and we will tell you directly.

Kensington and Chelsea FAQs

Questions from applicants in the borough

Questions families ask us about Kensington and Chelsea. If yours is not here, ask us directly.

Ask a question
I live near Ladbroke Grove and don't drive. Which home could I reach?

Uxbridge is usually the most practical. Take the Hammersmith & City line to Hammersmith and change to an Uxbridge-bound Piccadilly line train. Whitton and Kingston mean crossing to Clapham Junction first, which takes longer from W10.

I already work for another care provider in Chelsea. Can I work for you as well?

Possibly. Tell us your current hours so we can make sure you still get proper rest between shifts. We still have to do our own checks, though an existing DBS certificate on the Update Service makes that quicker.

I volunteer with an older people's charity in North Kensington. Does that count as experience?

Yes, mention it. Befriending, escorting people to appointments or helping at a lunch club all show us how you are with older people. You will still complete the Care Certificate training when you start.

Can I meet you somewhere in Kensington?

We have no office in the borough. We usually start with a phone call, and any meeting in person is at our Lewisham office. From Sloane Square, that's a District or Circle line hop to Victoria and then a Southeastern train.
