Care Jobs for Westminster Residents
If you live in Westminster, you can apply to work with us as a live-in carer, which works from any London address, or as a support worker at our supported living homes in Whitton, Kingston upon Thames or Uxbridge. Visiting care in Westminster is possible when we have clients there. Our office is in Lewisham, a direct train ride from Charing Cross and Victoria.
Is there visiting care work in Westminster?
Sometimes. Westminster is one of the easier boroughs north of the river to reach from our office at Lewisham, SE13. Southeastern trains run direct to Charing Cross and Victoria in about 15 to 25 minutes, while Maida Vale, St John's Wood and Queen's Park are nearer an hour away. Even so, we only have visiting work in Westminster when we have clients there, so we can't promise rounds. Tell us when you apply which parts of the borough you could cover and we will say honestly what we have.
Getting between visits in the city
A car is more trouble than help for visiting work in Westminster. The West End, Mayfair, Soho, Victoria and Westminster itself are inside the Congestion Charge zone, and the whole borough is in the ULEZ. Westminster's parking zones page says paid bays usually have a maximum stay of four hours. There is also a surcharge of up to 50 per cent on pre-2015 diesel vehicles. Westminster has more Tube stations than any other borough, so most carers walk, take the bus or hop a stop or two on the Tube.
The buildings vary as much as the journeys: a porter's desk in a St John's Wood mansion block, a walk-up flat above a Soho shop, an estate block off Edgware Road where everything depends on the lift. Older mansion blocks in Maida Vale and Marylebone often have small lifts or none, so you need to be confident moving and handling people in tight spaces.
Live-in care: your Westminster address doesn't matter
Live-in carers stay in the client's home for the length of a placement, so where you live only matters at the start and end of it. You have your own room, you support one person or a couple through the day, and your breaks and time off are agreed as part of the arrangement. Placements can be anywhere we have live-in clients in London. Our live-in care page shows what families expect.
Commuting from Westminster to our supported living homes
Rough public transport times:
- From Baker Street, Marylebone or Paddington: Uxbridge, by Metropolitan line from Baker Street, which runs through to Uxbridge, in about 45 to 55 minutes. From Piccadilly Circus or Green Park, some Piccadilly line trains also go to Uxbridge, but many go to Heathrow, so check the destination.
- From Pimlico, Victoria or Westminster: Whitton, by Victoria line to Vauxhall or a short walk to Waterloo, then South Western Railway. Allow 40 to 55 minutes.
- From anywhere south of Oxford Street: Kingston, via Waterloo on South Western Railway, in about 50 to 60 minutes.
Ask us about start and finish times before you commit to a commute, especially if you live in the north-west of the borough.
What the work involves
In someone's home, you help with washing, dressing and using the toilet, prompt or give medication and record it, move people safely (sometimes with a hoist), make meals and keep them company. We support people living with dementia, physical disabilities and sensory loss, and people at the end of life. In supported living, more of the work is helping adults do things for themselves: shopping, cooking, budgeting and getting out on public transport.
Do you need qualifications to be a carer in Westminster?
No. You don't need a care qualification to apply to us. If you are new to care, you will be trained to the Care Certificate standards set by Skills for Care, which cover safeguarding, dignity, infection control, communication and person-centred care. CQC-registered providers must also train staff in learning disability and autism.
The law requires us, as a provider registered with the Care Quality Commission, to complete three checks before you work with anyone:
- An enhanced DBS check including the adults' barred list, through the Disclosure and Barring Service. If your certificate is on the DBS Update Service, we can check it online with your permission.
- A right to work check, following the government's rules. If your visa limits your hours, we must keep you within them.
- References, including your most recent employer and any previous care job.
Pay, vacancies and shift patterns aren't listed here. They depend on the role and on what is open when you contact us. Ask and we will tell you straight.

Questions from Westminster applicants
Questions families ask us about Westminster. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionI live in Pimlico. Is your Lewisham office easy to get to for a meeting?
Yes. From Victoria, Southeastern trains run direct to Lewisham, and the office is on Lewisham High Street, a short walk from the station. The first conversation is usually by phone, so you may not need to travel at first.
I'm in Maida Vale and don't drive. Which supported living home could I reach?
Uxbridge is usually the simplest. Take the Bakerloo line to Baker Street and change to the Metropolitan line. Whitton and Kingston mean crossing to Waterloo first, which adds time from W9.
I care for my mother on the Church Street estate. Does that count as experience?
It does. Tell us what you do for her, such as personal care, medication or getting her to appointments at St Mary's. You would still complete the Care Certificate training and all three checks before starting with us.
Do you have an office or team base in Westminster?
No. Our only office is in Lewisham. Visiting carers go straight to clients' homes, live-in carers stay with their client, and support workers are based at the supported living homes.
