Care Jobs for People Living in Brent
If you live in Brent, the two roles that fit best with us are live-in carer, which can be anywhere in London, and support worker at our Uxbridge supported living home, which is a direct Tube ride from Wembley Park, Alperton or Sudbury Town. Visiting care is harder, because our office and most visiting work are in south-east London. Here is what's realistic from each part of the borough.
Supported living work: Brent's straightforward commute
Our three supported living homes are in Uxbridge, Whitton and Kingston upon Thames. From most of Brent, Uxbridge is an easy daily journey:
- Wembley, Preston, Kingsbury: Uxbridge-bound Metropolitan line trains from Wembley Park take roughly 30 to 35 minutes. From Kingsbury, take the Jubilee line one stop to Wembley Park first.
- Alperton and Sudbury: the Piccadilly line's Uxbridge branch runs from Alperton and Sudbury Town in about 25 to 30 minutes.
- Driving: around 30 to 40 minutes from Wembley along the A40.
Whitton is about an hour away, via the Overground Mildmay line from Willesden Junction or Brondesbury to Richmond and then a South Western Railway train. That route suits Harlesden and Kensal Green better than Kingsbury. Kingston is further again.
The work is helping adults run their own lives: cooking, budgeting, appointments, going out. Our supported living page describes the homes.
Live-in carer: your postcode doesn't matter
A live-in carer moves into the client's home, has their own bedroom, and supports one person (sometimes a couple) through the day with personal care, meals, medication and company. You live where the client lives, so a carer from Harlesden or Neasden can take a placement anywhere in London. That includes Brent itself, when we have a client there. You are entitled to proper breaks and time off, and we arrange cover for them. Our live-in care page shows the role from the family's side.
Visiting care from Brent: the honest picture
Visiting carers see several clients in a day, and our visiting work is mostly in south-east London, close to our Lewisham office. The Jubilee line helps. It runs from Kilburn, Willesden Green, Dollis Hill and Neasden to London Bridge and Canary Wharf, and from there a Southeastern train or the DLR reaches Lewisham.
- Kilburn and Willesden Green: roughly 45 to 55 minutes each way. Possible, but a long day.
- Wembley Park, Kingsbury and Harlesden: around 60 to 70 minutes. Hard to sustain.
- Sudbury and Alperton: longer still.
Visiting work inside Brent depends on whether we have clients there, and we can't promise it. If that's what you want, say so when you apply and we'll tell you straight whether anything is close.
Our only office is in Lewisham, at Tower House, 67-71 Lewisham High Street, SE13. From Brent, take the Jubilee line to Canary Wharf and the DLR to Lewisham, or the Jubilee line to London Bridge and a Southeastern train.
What a working day can include
- Help with washing, dressing and the toilet, given with dignity
- Giving or prompting medication and recording it
- Cooking food the person actually wants to eat
- Safe moving and handling, sometimes with a hoist
- Getting out: shops, appointments, a place of worship
- Clear notes so the next carer knows what happened
Clients may be living with dementia, a physical disability or sensory loss, or be nearing the end of life. Tell us which languages you speak and any dietary or faith practices you know well. Some clients are more at ease with a carer who understands theirs.
Do I need qualifications to become a carer?
No formal qualification is needed to start, but you do need training. New care workers work through the Care Certificate standards from Skills for Care, which cover duty of care, safeguarding, privacy and dignity, infection control, communication and person-centred support. CQC-registered providers must also make sure staff are trained in learning disability and autism, which matters especially in supported living. If you have cared for a relative or volunteered, tell us.
Checks before your first shift
The law requires a CQC-registered provider to complete these before you work with clients:
- An enhanced DBS check, including the adults' barred list, through the Disclosure and Barring Service.
- Proof of your right to work in the UK, checked under the government's right to work rules. If your visa limits your hours, we have to keep within them.
- References, including your most recent employer and any previous care employer.
How much do care workers earn?
We don't list pay on this page because it varies by role. Ask us when you get in touch and we'll give you a straight answer.

Questions from Brent applicants
Questions families ask us about Brent. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionDo you have an office in Wembley or anywhere in Brent?
No. Our only office is in Lewisham. Interviews usually start with a phone call, and if we meet in person it is there.
I live near Ealing Road in Alperton. Which home suits me?
Uxbridge. Alperton is on the Piccadilly line's Uxbridge branch, so it's one train with no changes.
Will Wembley event days affect my journey to work?
They can. Wembley Park station gets very busy before and after events, and an event-day parking zone applies to streets around the stadium. Check the fixtures and allow extra time, or start from Alperton or Sudbury Town on the Piccadilly line on those days.
Do I need a car?
Not for supported living or live-in work. If you do drive, remember that the whole of Greater London is inside the ULEZ, and much of south Brent and the streets around Wembley are controlled parking zones. Tell us how you travel and we'll be realistic about what works.
