Care and Support Worker Jobs for Sutton Residents
If you live in Sutton, you can apply to us for live-in care work anywhere in London, or for support work at our supported living home in Kingston upon Thames, which the 213 bus links directly to Sutton. Visiting care work in Sutton is less likely. Our only office is in Lewisham, SE13, more than an hour away by train, so it depends on the clients we have when you apply.
Start with the distance
Sutton is on the far side of London from our office on Lewisham High Street. The usual trip is a train to London Bridge, then Southern to Sutton, Carshalton or Wallington, which takes roughly 60 to 75 minutes door to door. By car it is 45 to 60 minutes across south London. That distance decides which roles are realistic for you:
- Live-in care: open to anyone in Sutton, because you live where the work is.
- Support work at the Kingston home: the best fit from Worcester Park, North Cheam, Cheam and Sutton town centre.
- Visiting care: possible only when we have clients in or near Sutton, so ask.
Support work at our Kingston home
Our Kingston home supports adults to live in their own home and run their own lives. A shift might mean cooking together, helping with post and a budget, or practising a bus route until someone can travel alone.
The 213 bus runs between Sutton and Kingston by way of Worcester Park and takes roughly 45 to 60 minutes end to end, so it is quicker the further west you start. Driving from Sutton town centre is about 25 to 35 minutes. From Wallington, Beddington or Hackbridge, think hard about whether you can make early and late shifts reliably. Our other homes, in Whitton and Uxbridge, are only practical if you drive.
Live-in work, from Sutton or anywhere
A live-in carer moves into the client's home, with a bedroom of their own, and supports one person or a couple through the day, with breaks and time off built in. Because you stay with the client, your home postcode matters much less.
If a placement is in Sutton itself, the house shapes the job. Many of the borough's 1930s semis have a box room for the carer and space downstairs for a bed if stairs become a problem. The cottage-style terraces of the St Helier estate often have small bedrooms and narrow stairs, which affects how you move and handle someone safely. Families can read their side of it on our live-in care page.
Is there visiting care work in Sutton?
Not reliably. Our visiting work is organised from Lewisham and we have no office or team in Sutton, so it depends on whether we take on clients near you. Tell us your postcode in case that changes. Driving between visits is easier than in inner London, because most residential streets are uncontrolled. Controlled zones cover Sutton town centre, Belmont, Park Lane in Cheam and a few other areas, and the council sells a Carer (organisation) Permit to care providers, allowing up to three hours at a time per visit.
What the work involves
- Washing, dressing and continence care
- Prompting and recording medication
- Meals, housework and shopping
- Safe moving and handling
- Company, walks and appointments
- Clear notes for the next carer and the family
The people we support include adults living with dementia, physical disabilities or sight and hearing loss, and some who are nearing the end of their lives.
Do I need qualifications to become a carer in Sutton?
No. New care workers complete the Care Certificate, the Skills for Care standards covering safeguarding, dignity, infection control and person-centred care. CQC-registered providers must also train staff in learning disability and autism under the Oliver McGowan programme, which matters especially at the Kingston home. Experience of caring for a relative or volunteering counts, so tell us about it.
The checks the law requires
- An enhanced DBS check with the adults' barred list, through the Disclosure and Barring Service.
- Your right to work in the UK, checked under the government's rules. If your visa limits your hours, we have to keep to that limit.
- References, including your most recent employer and any previous care employer.
No pay rates, vacancies or shift patterns here. They depend on the role and on what is open when you get in touch. Ask us directly and we will tell you.

Questions from Sutton applicants
Questions families ask us about Sutton. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionI live in Worcester Park. Is the Kingston home a sensible commute?
It is the shortest trip from anywhere in the borough. The 213 runs through Worcester Park to Kingston, and the drive is short. Tell us which shift times you could reach every time.
I'm in Hackbridge and don't drive. What should I apply for?
Live-in work is the most practical. Kingston means getting into Sutton first and then taking the 213, which can be well over an hour each way.
Would I be working at St Helier Hospital or the Royal Marsden?
No. We provide care in people's homes and in our supported living homes. You might support someone who has just come home from one of those hospitals, but you would not work inside them.
Can I have an interview in Sutton?
Our only office is in Lewisham. We usually start with a phone call and then agree with you whether and where to meet.
I already look after my dad in Carshalton. Can I still apply?
Yes, if the hours work for you both. You are also entitled to a carer's assessment from Sutton Adult Social Care (020 8770 5000), and Sutton Carers Centre can advise you on support for yourself.
