Care Jobs for Croydon Residents
If you live in Croydon, you can apply to us for live-in carer work anywhere in London, for support worker shifts at our supported living home in Kingston, which is one of the easier commutes from the borough, or for visiting care. Visiting work is most realistic from the north of Croydon, because our office is in Lewisham and our visiting clients are in south-east London.
Three ways to work with us from Croydon
- Live-in carer. Open to you wherever you live.
- Supported living support worker. Shifts at our homes in Kingston, Whitton and Uxbridge. Kingston is reachable from Croydon without going through central London.
- Visiting carer. Depends heavily on which part of Croydon you live in.
Is visiting care work realistic if I live in Croydon?
From the north of the borough, often yes; from the far south, usually not. Our visiting work is in south-east London, and whether there is work near you depends on who we are supporting at the time, so tell us where you can reach.
- West Croydon, Norwood Junction and South Norwood. The London Overground Windrush line runs north through Sydenham, Forest Hill, Honor Oak Park and Brockley, all in the borough of Lewisham.
- Addiscombe, Woodside and Shirley. The tram to Elmers End connects with the Hayes line, whose trains run through Catford Bridge and Ladywell to Lewisham.
- East Croydon and the town centre. Southern and Thameslink trains reach London Bridge quickly, and from there it is a short hop to Lewisham. Allow roughly 40 to 50 minutes to our office.
- Purley, Coulsdon, Sanderstead, Selsdon and New Addington. An hour or more each way to south-east London, which makes a visiting round hard to sustain. Live-in work suits these areas better.
There is no Tube in Croydon. If you drive, check an older car on TfL's ULEZ page.
Parking around Croydon. The council runs around twenty controlled parking zones, mostly in the town centre and around district centres and stations such as Thornton Heath, Norbury, South Norwood and Purley. We could not find a dedicated care-worker permit on Croydon's parking pages, so a carer visiting someone in a zone uses pay-and-display or a visitor day permit that the resident applies for. Many residential roads in the south of the borough have no controls.
Live-in work and Croydon homes
A live-in carer moves into the client's home for a set period with a bedroom of their own, and helps with personal care, meals, medication, housework and company. You get proper breaks and time off, and we arrange cover for them. Placements can be anywhere in London. Croydon's housing shows the range: hillside houses in Purley and Sanderstead with steep drives, and Thornton Heath terraces split into flats with narrow stairs. Expect stairlifts, commodes and sometimes hoists in tight spaces. The live-in care page shows the role from the family's side.
Support worker shifts at our Kingston home
At our supported living homes, support workers help adults cook, manage money and get out and about. From Croydon, the Kingston home is the realistic one:
- By car, roughly 30 to 45 minutes from central Croydon across Sutton on the A232 and A240.
- By public transport, about an hour: the tram to Wimbledon and then a train to Kingston, or the SL7 Superloop bus from West Croydon via Sutton.
- Whitton is further on, and Uxbridge is a long journey from anywhere in Croydon.
What the job involves
- Washing, dressing and help with the toilet, done with dignity
- Prompting medication and writing clear records
- Safe moving and handling
- Cooking, shopping and light housework
- Conversation, company and outings
- Spotting changes in someone's health and reporting them
The people we support include people living with dementia, physical disabilities or sensory impairments, and some who are nearing the end of life.
Checks and training before you start
We are registered with the CQC, so the law requires us to complete these before you work with clients:
- An enhanced DBS check, including the adults' barred list, through the Disclosure and Barring Service.
- A right to work check following the government's right to work rules, including any restriction on your hours.
- References, including your most recent employer and any previous care work.
If you are new to care, you will complete the Care Certificate standards set by Skills for Care, which cover safeguarding, privacy and dignity, communication and infection control, before working alone.
How much do care jobs in Croydon pay?
We don't list pay here because it varies by role. Ask us when you get in touch and we'll give you a straight answer for the role you are interested in.

Questions from Croydon applicants
Questions families ask us about Croydon. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionIs there a JNP Sidona office in Croydon?
No. Our only office is at Tower House, 67-71 Lewisham High Street, SE13. From East Croydon it is roughly 40 to 50 minutes via London Bridge, so coming in to meet us is easy enough.
I live in Thornton Heath near the hospital. Could I do visiting work?
Possibly. Thornton Heath has Southern trains, and the Overground at Norwood Junction or West Croydon gives a direct line into the borough of Lewisham. Tell us which days you can work and how you travel, and we'll say whether we have clients within reach.
I'm in Coulsdon. Is live-in care my best option?
Most likely. A daily commute to south-east London from Coulsdon is long, but a live-in placement means you travel once at the start and once at the end. The Kingston supported living home is another option if you drive.
I've cared for my mum at home in Croydon. Does that count?
Tell us about it, because it is real experience. You would still need the DBS, right to work and reference checks, and the Care Certificate training, before working on your own.
