Home Care in Beckenham
Visiting and live-in care across BR3: the High Street and Kelsey Park, Clock House, New Beckenham, Elmers End, Eden Park and Park Langley.
Yes, we provide home care in Beckenham, from a morning visit to help someone wash and dress through to a carer who lives in. Hayes line trains run straight from Lewisham, where our office is, to Clock House, New Beckenham, Elmers End and Eden Park, so visiting care here is practical whenever we have a carer free at the times you need. Every arrangement starts with a free assessment at home and a written care plan.
One postcode, three kinds of house
Beckenham was a Kent town before it was a London suburb, and BR3 still divides along the lines it was built in. Around the curving High Street and the stations, the big Victorian villas have mostly been split into flats. Further out towards Eden Park and Park Langley the roads fill with 1920s and 1930s semis and detached houses. Near the High Street there are also purpose-built retirement flats.
Each of these changes what a visit looks like. A first-floor conversion flat can mean a long shared staircase and a small bathroom with no room for a carer to stand beside the bath. An interwar semi usually has one staircase and a bathroom upstairs, which works well until stairs become a fall risk. Retirement flats tend to have a lift, level access and an alarm system, so the work is mostly personal care, meals and medication prompts. We look at the house as closely as the person when we assess.
Beckenham Beacon and the PRUH
Beckenham Beacon on Croydon Road, built on the old Beckenham Hospital site, has an urgent treatment centre, x-ray, blood tests and outpatient clinics. It has no emergency department. A serious fall or sudden illness normally means admission to the Princess Royal University Hospital at Farnborough, and that is where most Beckenham discharges are planned. Both are run by King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. If a parent is on a ward and going home is being discussed, call us early so the first visits can be lined up with the discharge. Our hospital discharge page explains how it works.
Parking near the stations. The roads around the town centre and stations fall inside controlled parking zones. Bromley Council does not issue carers' permits, so a carer visiting a house inside a zone during restricted hours needs one of the resident's visitor vouchers. If you live in a zone, order a supply before care starts. Most residential roads further from the stations have no restrictions.
Who pays for home care in Beckenham?
There are three routes. You can pay us privately. Bromley Council can assess the person's needs and finances and fund some or all of the care: request an assessment on the council's care assessment page, by phoning 020 8461 7777, or by emailing adultsocialcare@bromley.gov.uk, and the Adult Early Intervention Service will contact you. If the main need is health-related, NHS Continuing Healthcare can pay in full. If the council funds care, you can take it as a direct payment and choose us as the provider. We do not quote over the phone; we give a written quote after the assessment. More on the council side is on our Bromley home care page.
Live-in care and breaks for family
Houses towards Park Langley and Eden Park usually have the spare bedroom that live-in care needs. In a one-bedroom conversion flat it is rarely possible, and visits are the better fit. If you are the one looking after someone, Bromley Well (freephone 0808 278 7898) runs carer support for the borough, and our respite care can cover an afternoon each week or a fortnight away.

Beckenham questions
Questions families ask us about Beckenham. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionMy mother lives near Elmers End. Is that still Beckenham for your purposes?
Yes. We treat all of BR3 as Beckenham, including Elmers End, Eden Park, Park Langley, Clock House and the New Beckenham side. Elmers End also has a tram stop, which helps carers coming from Croydon.
Can a carer take Dad to his outpatient clinic at Beckenham Beacon?
Yes, an escort to appointments can be written into the care plan. Give us the clinic times at the assessment so we can check a carer is free.
She lives in a top-floor conversion flat. Can you still provide care?
Usually, yes. We look at the stairs, the bathroom and whether equipment such as a shower seat or grab rails would help. If someone can no longer manage the stairs safely, we will say so and talk through the options with you and the council's occupational therapy service.
We are inside a parking zone. Who pays for the carer's parking?
Because Bromley does not issue carers' permits, visits inside a zone during restricted hours rely on the resident's visitor vouchers. We will talk through how many you are likely to need when we set the visit times.
