Home Care in South Norwood, SE25
Visiting and live-in care around Norwood Junction, Portland Road, Selhurst Road and South Norwood Hill, from the Selhurst Park side across to the country park.
JNP Sidona can provide home care in South Norwood, as visiting calls or as live-in care. SE25 is one of the parts of Croydon most directly connected to our Lewisham office, which makes visits more realistic here than in much of the borough, though they still depend on having a carer free for your times. We start with a free home assessment and a written care plan, then tell you plainly what we can cover.
A direct line from Lewisham
The 75 bus runs from Lewisham station, past University Hospital Lewisham, through Catford, Sydenham and Penge, and into South Norwood at the clock tower before continuing along Selhurst Road. Norwood Junction is on the London Overground Windrush line, which runs through Brockley, Honor Oak Park and Forest Hill, as well as Southern and Thameslink services to London Bridge. We still check carer availability before agreeing to regular visits, but SE25 is not the far edge of our map in the way Coulsdon or New Addington is.
Around the clock tower
South Norwood centres on the cast-iron clock tower where the High Street meets Station Road and Selhurst Road, a short walk from Norwood Junction. It went up in 1907 to mark the golden wedding of the local inventor William Stanley and his wife Eliza. Portland Road and South Norwood Hill carry the A215 through it, and Selhurst Road and the High Street carry the A213. On the western side is Selhurst Park, Crystal Palace's ground. On the eastern side are South Norwood Lake and South Norwood Country Park, opened in 1989 on what had been Croydon's sewage farm. Arthur Conan Doyle lived on Tennison Road in the early 1890s, and his house there carries a blue plaque.
The housing is mostly Victorian terraces and larger villas, many now divided into flats, with post-war council blocks in between. Some practical points:
- Converted villas on South Norwood Hill and the roads off it can mean a top-floor flat with no lift and two or three flights of stairs.
- Council blocks usually have a lift. Check that it works reliably and is big enough for a wheelchair before you plan a discharge around it.
- Match days at Selhurst Park fill the surrounding streets and buses, so we plan visit times around the fixture list.
Dementia day care on Selhurst Road
One thing South Norwood has that most of the borough does not: Croydon Council's own Marsh and Willow dementia day services are based at the Heavers Resource Centre, 122 Selhurst Road, SE25 6LL. Places are arranged through adult social care on 020 8726 6500 and are charged after a financial assessment. Home care and day care work well together. A carer can help someone get washed, dressed and ready on day-centre mornings, and provide dementia care at home on the other days. If memory problems have not yet been assessed, the GP can refer to the Croydon Memory Service, run by South London and Maudsley.
Using the park. The flat paths round South Norwood Lake are a manageable outing for someone who walks slowly or uses a wheelchair. A companionship visit can be built around exactly that.
Is home care in South Norwood means-tested?
If Croydon Council pays toward it, yes. The first step is a needs assessment, which you can request online or by phone on 020 8726 6500. If the council finds eligible needs, a financial assessment decides the person's contribution, based on their income and savings. Where care is needed mainly for a health condition, ask about NHS Continuing Healthcare. People who arrange and pay for care themselves can come to us directly. Either way, we quote after assessing. See our Croydon home care page for the wider borough.
Living in, and short breaks
A live-in carer suits SE25's larger houses and two-bedroom flats, because the carer needs a room of their own. They can support a couple, and we arrange cover for their time off. For a family carer who needs a pause, respite can be a short live-in stay or extra visits. Carers First at 24 George Street, Croydon, on 0300 303 1555, offers carer's assessments and support.

South Norwood FAQs
Questions families ask us about South Norwood. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionMum goes to the dementia day centre on Selhurst Road twice a week. Can you help on those mornings?
Yes, if we have a carer free at the time she needs to be ready. A morning visit can cover washing, dressing, breakfast and medication before the day centre, and we can agree how to hand over with them.
Is South Norwood easier for you to cover than the rest of Croydon?
It is easier to reach from Lewisham, with the 75 bus and the Overground at Norwood Junction. That makes visits more realistic here, but they still depend on a carer being free for your times. We will tell you honestly when you call.
Dad's flat is on the top floor of a converted house on South Norwood Hill. Will that be a problem when he comes out of hospital?
It needs planning. The ward and the occupational therapist will look at whether he can manage the stairs. We look at the flat itself at our assessment, then plan the care around getting him in safely and what he can do once he is there.
Which council covers SE25?
South Norwood is in the London Borough of Croydon. The SE25 postcode also reaches into Woodside and Selhurst, which are in Croydon too, so the assessment route on this page applies.
Can a carer take Dad to watch Palace?
If it is part of his care plan and he is well enough, a live-in carer or a companionship visit can include an outing like that. Tell us at the assessment what matters to him.
