Home Care in Leyton, E10
Visiting care, dementia care, live-in care and respite in Leyton, from the terraces off the High Road and Francis Road to Lea Bridge and the Leyton Grange estate.
Yes, we provide home care in Leyton, and it is one of the more reachable parts of Waltham Forest from our Lewisham office: around 45 to 55 minutes by DLR to Stratford and then the Central line. That makes regular visits more realistic here than further north in the borough, though we still confirm we have a carer for your times before we agree to start. Live-in care is available at any address with a spare bedroom.
The closest part of the borough to us
Leyton sits just north of Stratford, and Leyton station (Central line) is at the southern end of the High Road, one stop from Stratford. Leyton Midland Road is on the Overground Suffragette line and Lea Bridge is on the Stratford to Tottenham line, so a carer arriving by train has three lines to choose from. For a visiting carer that matters more than anything else, because Leyton's residential streets are in controlled parking zones and many are closed to through traffic.
A few addresses near Stratford carry an E15 postcode but are still in Waltham Forest. The council named on the council tax bill is the one to ask for an assessment.
Terraces, flats and the Leyton Grange estate
Most of Leyton's housing is Victorian and Edwardian terraces built between about 1870 and 1910, many of them divided into upstairs and downstairs flats. Along the High Road and around Lea Bridge there are new blocks with lifts, and the Leyton Grange estate, one of the few 1960s estates left in the area, includes the ten-storey Slade Tower.
What that means for care: in an upstairs terrace flat, the stairs and a small bathroom set the limits on bathing and getting out; in a tower or new block, the lift does. We look at both at the assessment, and at whether an occupational therapist from the council should see the bathroom before personal care starts.
Help that is already in Leyton
The council's Waltham Forest Dementia Hub is at 25 Sidmouth Road, E10, open weekdays. It hosts Age UK Waltham Forest's Thursday information and advice drop-in, CREST's Ageing Well sessions on Fridays for people in the early stages of dementia, an Alzheimer's Society cognitive stimulation group, and the council's Intensive Dementia Outreach Service, which includes home visits. Gentle dementia-friendly walks leave from outside Leyton Sports Ground on the High Road on Tuesday mornings.
If your relative has dementia, a carer can take them to a Hub session or a walk and bring them home, so the family carer gets a few hours and the person keeps a routine.
Carers First, the council's carers' support partner, is also in Leyton, at 1 Russell Road, E10. Unpaid carers can refer themselves for advice, groups and help with a carer's assessment.
How do I get a care assessment in Leyton?
Phone Waltham Forest Adult Social Care on 020 8496 3130. A family member can make the call. The assessment can be face to face or by phone, and the council can arrange an independent advocate if there is nobody to help your relative take part. For family carers, the same number, or adult.carers@walthamforest.gov.uk, arranges a carer's assessment, and eligible carers can receive a direct payment of their own. Our Waltham Forest home care page goes through the full council process and discharge from Whipps Cross.
What will it cost?
Council-arranged care is means-tested after the needs assessment; NHS Continuing Healthcare covers people whose needs are primarily health needs. If you arrange care with us privately, or with a council direct payment, we quote in writing once we have assessed and know the visits needed.
Live-in care for Leyton couples
Many Leyton terraces have a second bedroom, which is what a live-in carer needs. One carer can support a husband and wife together, with full personal care for one and lighter help for the other. In a one-bedroom flat, visits are the realistic option.
Respite in E10
Respite care gives the main carer time off: a few extra visits each week, a sit-in while they go to a Carers First group, or a live-in carer for a fortnight while they go away.

Leyton questions
Questions families ask us about Leyton. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionCan a carer take my mum to the Dementia Hub on Sidmouth Road?
Yes. We can time a visit so a carer helps her get ready, goes with her and brings her home. Contact the Hub first to check which session suits her and whether it needs booking.
Our address is E15 but we pay council tax to Waltham Forest. Who assesses us?
Waltham Forest, because that is the council you pay. We cover the address either way.
Are visits more likely to be available in Leyton than in Chingford?
Generally, yes, because Leyton is on the Central line, one stop from Stratford, which we reach by DLR. It still depends on carer availability for your times, so ask.
Dad lives in a block on the High Road. Is that easier than a house?
Often, because a lift and level floors make personal care and getting out simpler. We will check the lift, the entry system and how the carer gets in at the assessment.
Where can Dad get his toenails cut in Leyton?
Our mobile nail care service does not cover Waltham Forest. Age UK Waltham Forest runs a monthly toenail-cutting clinic at the Dementia Hub on Sidmouth Road, which needs booking, and a carer can take him there.
