Live-in Care in Eastcote

A live-in carer for the semis, bungalows and maisonettes off Field End Road and Eastcote High Road, including homes with a Pinner postal address.

Yes, we provide live-in care in Eastcote, in HA5 and HA4. A carer lives in your home, in their own room, and gives day-to-day support under a care plan written after Jackie's free home assessment. Since nobody is commuting to each visit, Eastcote's distance from our Lewisham office doesn't affect the care itself.

Is a 1930s Eastcote house suitable for live-in care?

In most cases, yes. Eastcote's interwar roads of semis, detached houses and bungalows were built for families, so most homes still have a spare bedroom. At the assessment we check four things:

  • The carer's room. A proper bed, space for clothes and privacy. A box room can be enough.
  • The stairs. If the only toilet is upstairs, we plan how the person gets there at three in the morning, not only at midday.
  • The bathroom. A bath with high sides may need a seat, a lift or a shower conversion before washing is safe.
  • The front step and path. Many semis have a step up from the drive; a rail or ramp can make daily outings easier.

Bungalows are simpler: one level, wider rooms, and space for a hoist. The council's occupational therapy team assesses for equipment and adaptations once you've asked Hillingdon for help.

Maisonettes and flats near the station

The maisonettes near the station are a different case. A two-bedroom maisonette can take a live-in carer, but for an upper maisonette the climb to the street matters more than the size of the spare room. If your relative can no longer manage them, the carer can't simply carry them up and down, and getting out for appointments and fresh air becomes the real problem. We look at this honestly at the assessment.

A one-bedroom maisonette or flat has nowhere for the carer to sleep. There, the realistic choices are visiting care, which depends on whether we have carers free in HA5, or a move to somewhere with a second bedroom; our home care in Eastcote page covers visits.

Who is at home when Dad comes out of hospital?

Eastcote is close to the Harrow border, so a stay in hospital might be at Hillingdon Hospital in Uxbridge or at Northwick Park Hospital in Harrow. Either way, ring us while discharge is being planned. A live-in carer can be in the house to receive your relative, help them settle and then take over the follow-up: collecting prescriptions, going with them to outpatient appointments and watching for problems in the first days at home. See our hospital discharge page for how we prepare.

Changeover day on the Metropolitan line

A live-in carer is replaced by a fresh carer at the end of a placement, with a handover at the house. Eastcote station is on both the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines, so most carers come straight in. A carer arriving on the Central line can change at Northolt for the 282, which stops at Eastcote station, and the 398 links Eastcote with Ruislip and Rayners Lane. The H13 runs along High Road Eastcote to Pinner.

Most residential roads in Hillingdon are free to park on, but some streets near stations and parades have permit bays, usually controlled on weekdays. If you live in one and a relative is driving the carer in, residents can get visitor sessions through the council's parking permits service.

A carer's afternoon off in Eastcote. The daily break is protected and planned. Eastcote House Gardens on the High Road has a walled garden, old orchards and a café open from 9am to 3pm every day. Haydon Hall park is close by, and Eastcote Library is on Field End Road among the shops. On days out, the gardens are an easy, level place for the carer to take the person they look after.

Living with dementia at home in Eastcote

For a parent with dementia, staying in a house they've known for decades can help them hold onto their routine. A live-in carer fits around that routine: the same walk up Field End Road, the same chair, meals at the usual times. They also make sure the person isn't alone if they wake confused at night. If night-time waking becomes frequent, one carer can't stay up every night, and we'll say so and plan for it.

Hillingdon has support to use alongside us. Families can call Hillingdon's Admiral Nurses on 01895 556480, and the Alzheimer's Society offers dementia adviser support in the borough after a diagnosis. Our dementia care page explains our approach.

Funding pointers

A Pinner postal address doesn't change the council: Hillingdon's needs and financial assessment applies, and a personal budget can be paid as a direct payment. Continuing Healthcare may cover the cost where needs are mainly health needs. Our live-in care in Hillingdon page goes through the details, and live-in care describes the service. We send a written quote after the free assessment.

Eastcote live-in care FAQs

Questions families ask us about Eastcote. If yours is not here, ask us directly.

Ask a question
Mum has outpatient appointments at Mount Vernon. How will she get there with the carer?

The 282 runs from Eastcote station through Northwood Hills and Northwood to Mount Vernon Hospital, so the carer can take her by bus. If the bus is too much for her, a taxi can be booked and the carer goes with her.

Dad is in Northwick Park. Can the carer start the day he comes home?

That is the aim if we are told early. The room needs to be ready and the assessment done, so call us as soon as the ward mentions a discharge date.

Where will the carer go during their break?

Wherever they like. In Eastcote that is often Eastcote House Gardens, Haydon Hall or the shops and library on Field End Road. We agree who covers your relative during that time.

Mum's dementia means she gets up several times a night. Can one live-in carer cope?

Not night after night. A live-in carer needs proper rest at night. If waking is frequent, we discuss adding night support or other options before the carer becomes exhausted.

Can the carer help both my parents if only one is assessed as needing care?

Yes. The plan can include lighter help for the other parent, such as meals and shopping, as long as one carer can manage both people's needs safely.
