Live-in Care in Wembley

A carer living in with you in a Wembley Park apartment, a semi off the High Road or a house towards Preston, with changeovers planned around the stadium calendar.

Yes, we arrange live-in care in Wembley, in both HA0 and HA9. A carer we have matched to the person moves into the home, has a bedroom of their own and gives help with personal care, meals, medication and getting out, all day, every day. It begins with a free assessment visit where we look at the home and the person's needs, then a written care plan, so the hour-long trip from our Lewisham office never affects the daily care.

Tower flat or 1930s semi: where would the carer sleep?

Wembley has two very different kinds of home, and they raise different questions for live-in care.

Around Wembley Park, most homes are recent apartments in lift-served blocks between the stadium, the arena and Brent Civic Centre. The upside is a single level: once the profiling bed is in, every transfer, wash and meal happens on one floor, and the carer's room is usually just across the hallway at night. The question is the second bedroom. It needs to take a single bed, storage and a door that closes.

Around Wembley Central and towards Preston, the interwar semis and terraces nearly always have a third bedroom or a box room upstairs. Here the challenge is the staircase, not the space. If the person can no longer climb safely, the dining room often becomes a ground-floor bedroom, and the carer sleeps upstairs with a baby monitor or a call bell.

A one-bedroom flat cannot host a live-in carer. In that case we will talk to you about visiting care in Wembley, which depends on whether we have a carer free for your times.

Evacuation plans in Wembley Park's taller blocks

Lifts are the reason many Wembley Park apartments suit someone who uses a wheelchair, but most are not meant to be used during a fire. Since 6 April 2026, the Fire Safety (Residential Evacuation Plans) (England) Regulations 2025 require the responsible person for a residential block at least 18 metres or seven storeys high (and some blocks above 11 metres) to try to identify residents who could not get out unaided, offer them a person-centred fire risk assessment, and agree a written emergency evacuation statement. If your relative has not been offered one, ask the building manager before the carer starts. We put the agreed plan into the care plan so the carer knows it from the first day.

Changeover day when there is an event at the stadium

Live-in carers work a placement and then hand over to a colleague. In Wembley, the date has to be checked against the stadium and arena calendar, because on event days roads around the stadium close and Wembley Park station on the Jubilee and Metropolitan lines gets very crowded.

  • We avoid event days for a changeover where we can, and if one cannot be moved, the incoming carer arrives well before the crowds.
  • A fallback route: for homes south of the High Road, Wembley Central on the Bakerloo line is a short walk and is usually less affected than Wembley Park.
  • Parking: a live-in carer does not need a car. If a family member drives in to help at a handover, check whether the street is in Brent's event day parking zone, where a visitor event day permit is needed, as well as the normal controlled parking zone, where visitors pay by RingGo.

Moving and handling is planned before discharge, not after. If the hospital says someone needs two people to transfer them, for example with a full hoist, one live-in carer cannot do that safely alone. We will tell you so at the assessment and plan the second pair of hands with you.

Where can a live-in carer take their break in Wembley?

Every live-in carer has a protected break each day. In Wembley, two places work well for that, and both are just as good for the person being cared for on a better day:

  • King Edward VII Park on Park Lane, near the High Road, opened in 1914 and has flower gardens, meadows and winding paths.
  • Wembley Library is inside Brent Civic Centre on Engineers Way, so a stop there can sit alongside any business at the council's offices.

While the carer is off, a family member can sit in, or we can plan a short visit to cover the gap.

From a Northwick Park ward to home

Northwick Park Hospital on Watford Road is where most Wembley patients are treated. A live-in carer can be there from the first evening at home once the plan is agreed, setting up the bed and equipment and keeping an eye on medication changes. Ring us as soon as the ward starts talking about a date. Age UK Hillingdon, Harrow and Brent also offers hospital discharge support at Northwick Park, and our hospital discharge page explains how we work with the ward.

Who pays for live-in care in Wembley?

Brent Council may help after a care needs assessment and a means test, and can pay its share as a direct payment that you use with an agency. If the main needs are health needs, ask whether NHS Continuing Healthcare applies, because it then pays in full. Our own figure comes as a written quote once we have seen the home and the person. Our live-in care in Brent page explains the council route, and live-in care across London covers how the service works.

Live-in care in Wembley: your questions

Questions families ask us about Wembley. If yours is not here, ask us directly.

Ask a question
Mum's flat near the stadium has a concierge. Do they need to know about the carer?

Yes, tell the building manager and the concierge before the carer arrives, and check whether a fob or access card can be issued. If the flat is rented or shared ownership, read the lease or tenancy too. The carer is working there, not renting a room.

What happens if the replacement carer is due on a cup final day?

We try to move the changeover to another day. If we cannot, the incoming carer travels early or comes in through Wembley Central, and the outgoing carer does not leave until the handover is complete.

Dad has a stairlift in his semi off Harrow Road. Can the carer still sleep upstairs?

Yes, as long as Dad can call the carer at night. A call bell or monitor is normal, and we look at the stair and landing at the assessment to make sure night-time help is safe for both of them.

Can one carer look after my parents together in their Wembley Park flat?

Usually, if your parents share a bedroom and the second room goes to the carer. One carer can give full personal care to one partner and lighter help to the other, provided neither needs two-person transfers.
