Care Jobs for People Living in Camden
If you live in Camden you can apply to work with us as a live-in carer, which can be based anywhere in London, or as a support worker at one of our supported living homes. Visiting care work is harder from Camden, because our office and visiting work are in south-east London. We don't have a Camden base, so here is an honest guide to what's realistic.
Three kinds of role, and how each works from Camden
Live-in carer
A live-in carer moves into the client's home, has their own bedroom, and supports them through the day with personal care, meals, medication, housework and company. Because you live where the client lives, your home address doesn't limit you. Someone from Kentish Town or Kilburn can take a live-in role in Bromley as easily as one in Hampstead. You are entitled to proper breaks and time off, and we arrange cover for them. Our live-in care page describes the work from the family's side.
Support worker at a supported living home
Our three homes are in Uxbridge, Whitton and Kingston upon Thames. From Camden, Uxbridge is the easiest commute: Uxbridge-bound Metropolitan line trains run direct from King's Cross St Pancras, Euston Square and Finchley Road, in roughly 55 to 65 minutes. Whitton and Kingston both mean getting to Waterloo first (the Northern line from Camden Town or Euston gets you there) and then taking a South Western Railway train, so allow 60 to 75 minutes. The work is about helping adults live their own lives: cooking, budgeting, getting out, appointments, and building confidence. See our supported living page.
Visiting carer
Visiting carers go to several clients' homes across a day. Our office is in Lewisham, and visiting work depends on where the clients are, which is mostly south-east London. From Camden that means a cross-river commute every day. The Northern line's Bank branch runs from Camden Town, Euston and King's Cross to London Bridge, where trains continue to Lewisham, so it can be done from the south and centre of the borough. From Hampstead or Highgate it makes for a long day. If you want visiting work close to home in north-west London, tell us, but we can't promise it.
No Camden office. Our only office is at Tower House, 67-71 Lewisham High Street, SE13. From Camden Town or King's Cross it's about 30 to 40 minutes: Northern line to London Bridge, then a Southeastern train to Lewisham.
Can I get a care job with no experience?
Experience helps, and we look for it. Still, if you have looked after a relative, volunteered, or worked in a role that needed patience and reliability, tell us about it. People new to care work through the Care Certificate standards set by Skills for Care. They cover the basics every care worker needs: duty of care, privacy and dignity, safeguarding, infection control, communication, and person-centred support. All staff also need training in learning disability and autism, because since 2022 the law has required CQC-registered providers to make sure their staff receive it.
What the work involves day to day
- Washing, dressing and continence care, done with dignity
- Prompting and recording medication
- Cooking and eating together
- Moving and handling, sometimes with a hoist
- Company, conversation and getting out
- Clear written notes for the next person
Some clients live with dementia, physical disabilities or sensory impairments, and some are nearing the end of life.
The checks we have to carry out
As a CQC-registered provider, we are required by law to carry out pre-employment checks before anyone starts:
- Enhanced DBS check with a check of the adults' barred list, carried out through the Disclosure and Barring Service.
- Right to work in the UK. We have to see proof before you start, following the government's right to work rules. If your visa limits your working hours, as many student visas do, we have to stay within those limits.
- References, including from your most recent employer and, where you have done care work before, from that employer.
How much do care jobs pay?
We don't publish pay rates here, because they depend on the role. Ask when you get in touch and we'll tell you plainly.

Camden applicants ask
Questions families ask us about Camden. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionDo you have care jobs inside Camden itself?
Sometimes, through live-in placements, which can be anywhere in London including Camden. We have no office or supported living home in the borough, and visiting work there depends on whether we have clients nearby, so ask us.
Which of your supported living homes is best for someone living in NW3 or NW6?
Uxbridge. Finchley Road station is on the Metropolitan line, and Uxbridge-bound trains go straight through without a change.
Do I need a car for visiting work?
It helps in south-east London, but it isn't essential everywhere. Driving from Camden has its own costs: parking across the borough is controlled, the area south of Euston Road is inside the Congestion Charge zone, and the whole borough is in the ULEZ. Tell us how you travel and we'll be realistic about what's workable.
Where would I have my interview?
We usually start with a phone conversation. If we meet in person, it is at our Lewisham office, which is near Lewisham station (Southeastern and DLR), reachable from Camden via London Bridge or Bank.
I'm studying in Bloomsbury. Can I work part time?
Possibly, depending on your availability and visa conditions. Live-in work rarely fits around lectures, but tell us your hours and we'll say honestly whether anything fits.
