Home Care in Tulse Hill, SE27 and SW2
Visiting and live-in care on the hill between Brixton and West Norwood, from Upper Tulse Hill and Cressingham Gardens down to the station and the Norwood Road junction.
Yes, JNP Sidona can arrange home care in Tulse Hill, either as visits at set times of day or as a live-in carer. Visits depend on whether we have a carer free for the times you need, because Tulse Hill is a train change away from our Lewisham office, so we check that before agreeing anything. Everything starts with a free home assessment and a written care plan.
One hill, two kinds of home
Tulse Hill is named after the Tulse family, who bought farmland here in the 1650s. Two roads climb it, Tulse Hill itself and Upper Tulse Hill, laid out in the early 1800s, and Trinity Rise links Upper Tulse Hill with Norwood Road. At the bottom, by the Tulse Hill Hotel, Norwood Road meets the South Circular. Brockwell Park lies along the eastern side.
The homes fall into two broad types, and each needs care planned differently:
- The estates. The Tulse Hill Estate on the upper slopes and Cressingham Gardens, the low-rise estate beside Brockwell Park, are home to many older residents. Care here depends on access: whether the lift is reliable, how far the door is from the road, and whether a small bathroom leaves room for a carer to help safely.
- The side roads. Christchurch Road, Elm Park and the streets around Trinity Rise have Victorian and Edwardian houses, some still whole and some split into flats. A whole house usually has a spare bedroom, which makes live-in care straightforward. An upper-floor flat in a converted house can mean a steep shared staircase and no room for a stairlift.
How do carers get to Tulse Hill?
There is no Tube. Tulse Hill station has Thameslink trains through Herne Hill to Blackfriars, Farringdon and St Pancras, and Southern trains to London Bridge via Peckham Rye. The buses that stop at the station include the 2, 68, 196, 201, 322, 432, 468 and P13. From Lewisham, the journey usually means changing at London Bridge, and it takes roughly 35 to 50 minutes.
So we only agree to visits once we have a carer for your times. If visits are not workable, live-in care avoids the journey altogether, because the carer stays in the home.
Being discharged from King's? King's College Hospital at Denmark Hill is the nearest A&E for Tulse Hill, so many local discharges come from there. Call us while the discharge is still being planned. Our hospital discharge page explains how we work with the ward.
Who pays for home care in Tulse Hill?
If you want Lambeth Council to help with the cost, start with a needs assessment. You can use the council's adult social care referral page or phone 020 7926 5555, choose Adults, then option 1 if the person has no current support. If the council agrees there are eligible needs, a financial assessment works out how much the person contributes from their income and savings. Mainly health needs may qualify for NHS Continuing Healthcare. Self-funders can come to us directly. Either way, we quote after the assessment. Our Lambeth home care page covers the borough-wide picture.
Memory problems and dementia nearby
The nearest dedicated dementia services are south of Tulse Hill, not towards Brixton: Central Hill Day Services on Lunham Road, SE19, a council-listed dementia day centre offered after a needs assessment, and Age UK Lambeth's Wednesday Magnolia Club at Christ Church Gipsy Hill. The 432 bus from outside Tulse Hill station heads that way, through West Norwood towards Crystal Palace, so a carer can travel with someone who no longer manages the journey alone. Our West Norwood page gives the details of both. Visiting dementia care can be planned around those days.
Living in, or a break for the family
A live-in carer needs their own bedroom, so the side-road houses and two-bedroom flats suit it. One carer can support a couple, and we arrange cover for the carer's breaks. For family carers who need a rest, respite care can be a short live-in stay or a few extra visits. Carers' Hub Lambeth, on Brixton Road, supports unpaid carers, and you can use it without having had a carer's assessment.

Tulse Hill questions
Questions families ask us about Tulse Hill. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionIs Tulse Hill in Lambeth or Southwark?
Tulse Hill is in Lambeth, so Lambeth Adult Social Care handles assessments. The neighbourhood straddles SE27 and SW2, and both postcodes go to Lambeth here. Towards Herne Hill and West Dulwich some addresses are in Southwark, so check the council tax bill.
I visit Dad on Christchurch Road most days. Can I get a parking permit?
Possibly. If his street is in a controlled parking zone, Lambeth sells a personal carer's parking permit to a family member or friend who cares for him. You do not have to live in Lambeth, you need a declaration from his GP or social services, and each stay is limited to three hours in that zone. It does not cover parking on housing estates such as Cressingham Gardens or the Tulse Hill Estate.
Would you send a carer for just one morning visit?
It depends on whether we have a carer free for that time. One regular morning call is often easier to cover than several calls spread through the day. Tell us the times and we will give you a straight answer.
Can a carer take my husband for a walk in Brockwell Park?
Yes, if he is well enough and it is in his care plan. A companionship visit can be built around a walk or a wheelchair outing in the park.
