Home Care in East Sheen, SW14
Care at home along the Upper Richmond Road West and up Sheen Lane towards Richmond Park: live-in care, respite and, when a carer is available, visits.
Yes, we provide home care in East Sheen. Live-in care is the most dependable option here, because a carer moves in and the distance from our Lewisham office no longer matters; regular visiting care is possible when we have a carer free at the times you need, so ask. We start with a free assessment at home and agree a written care plan with you.
Is East Sheen covered by Richmond or Wandsworth social care?
Richmond. East Sheen, SW14, is in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, even though Roehampton and Putney, just to the east, are in Wandsworth. That catches people out, partly because outpatient appointments may be at Queen Mary's Hospital on Roehampton Lane, which is in Wandsworth. For a needs assessment, use Richmond's adult social care referral or call 020 8891 7971 on weekdays. After hours, the Adults Emergency Duty team is on 020 8744 2442. Our Richmond upon Thames home care page explains assessments, means testing and direct payments.
The high street and the roads behind it
East Sheen's shops line the Upper Richmond Road West, the A205 between Richmond and Putney, and buses 33, 337 and 493 run along it. A short walk to the shops with a carer, a rollator and a list is a realistic outing here, and a good use of a companionship visit.
Behind the high street the housing is mostly Edwardian and interwar semis and terraces, with larger detached houses towards Richmond Park and low and mid-rise blocks of flats. A semi with a spare bedroom has room for a live-in carer. In a purpose-built flat, check the lift and the bathroom early: a level-access shower makes a big difference to personal care.
Sheen Lane Day Centre. Richmond Council runs a specialist day centre at 74 Sheen Lane (SW14 8LP) for people aged 60 and over with a physical disability, frailty or sensory loss. Ask Adult Social Care about a place. If your relative attends, we can time care around their centre days.
Richmond Park and the commons
Sheen Lane runs from Mortlake station across the Upper Richmond Road West, and East Sheen's share of Richmond Park is reached through Sheen Gate. Palewell Common and the National Trust's East Sheen Common are also close. For someone recovering from a fall or living with early dementia, a walk to the park gate and back can be part of the care plan, agreed in advance with a safe route.
Reaching SW14
Mortlake and North Sheen stations are on South Western Railway's line from Waterloo. From Lewisham that is about an hour via Waterloo East and Waterloo, which is why visiting care depends on carer availability. If a carer will drive, check whether the street is in a controlled parking zone using the council's CPZ information.
Live-in care and breaks for carers
If your relative goes to the Sheen Lane Day Centre, those days are already a regular break for you. For a longer one, a live-in carer can move in for a planned week or two. A carer's assessment from Richmond can lead to funded breaks, and if the person you look after has a severe mental illness, Richmond Borough Mind's Carers in Mind service supports families. See our respite care page for the details.

East Sheen questions
Questions families ask us about East Sheen. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionHow do we get a place at the Sheen Lane Day Centre?
Ask Richmond Adult Social Care, ideally as part of a needs assessment, and mention the centre. We do not run it, but our carers can help your relative get ready on the days they go.
Her hospital appointments are at Queen Mary's, Roehampton. Can a carer go with her?
Yes, if we arrange it in advance and it is in her care plan. A live-in carer can usually accompany her as part of the day.
Do you cover Mortlake as well?
Yes. Mortlake shares the SW14 postcode, and we cover it and the rest of the borough on the same basis.
Dad is a keen walker but has started to get lost. Can a carer still take him to Richmond Park?
Often, yes. We agree a familiar route and a plan for bad weather at the assessment, and our dementia care page explains how we support people whose memory is changing.
