Home Care in Twickenham, TW1 and TW2
Live-in care, respite and visiting care where a carer is available, from the riverside and King Street out to Twickenham Green and Strawberry Hill.
Yes, we provide home care in Twickenham. Live-in care is the service we can commit to anywhere in TW1 and TW2, because the carer moves in and travel stops mattering; regular visits depend on whether we have a carer living nearby, so ask and we will tell you honestly. Everything starts with a free home assessment by Jackie, our registered manager, and a written care plan.
Terraces, conversions and the houses round the Green
Twickenham's streets are mostly Victorian and Edwardian terraces and semis, and a good number have been split into flats. That matters for care. A ground-floor flat is usually easy to work in; an upper flat in a converted house often means a steep internal staircase and a small bathroom tucked at the top of it, which is where falls happen. By the river there are Georgian houses, and there are newer blocks of flats near the station.
If the stairs are becoming the problem, we talk through moving the bedroom down, a stairlift or a level-access shower at the assessment.
Match days and parking for carers
Twickenham Stadium, the home of England rugby, sits on the Whitton side of town, and on event days roads close and extra parking restrictions come in. Controlled parking zones also cover the town centre on ordinary days. For anyone visiting a client, Richmond Council publishes its CPZ map and event-day controls, and runs an operational parking permit that care workers can apply for when they need to park in a zone during restricted hours.
Buses through the town centre, stopping on York Street, Heath Road and by Poulett Gardens, include the 33, 267, 281, 290, 490, H22, R68 and R70. Twickenham and Strawberry Hill stations are on South Western Railway. From our office on Lewisham High Street the journey is roughly 75 to 90 minutes, which is the honest reason visiting care here depends on carer availability.
West Middlesex or Kingston: which hospital?
It depends on which side of Twickenham you live. Many people in TW1 and TW2 go to the emergency department at West Middlesex University Hospital in Isleworth, just over the border in Hounslow. Others, especially towards Strawberry Hill and Teddington, go to Kingston Hospital.
Tell the discharge team early that you want care at home. Our hospital discharge page explains what a carer can do in those first weeks.
Local GP practices include York Medical Practice at St John's Health Centre on Oak Lane (TW1 3PA) and Twickenham Park Surgery on Rosslyn Road (TW1 2AR).
How do I get Richmond Council to assess my parent in Twickenham?
Twickenham is the council's home: the Civic Centre is on York Street. Adult Social Care asks people to start with its online referral, which a family member can complete, or to call 020 8891 7971 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm). The needs assessment is free. If the council then funds care it means-tests income and savings, and it can pay a personal budget as a direct payment so you can choose your own provider. We don't publish prices: you get a written quote after our assessment. Funding and NHS Continuing Healthcare are covered on our Richmond upon Thames page.
Two places in Twickenham itself. Richmond Carers Centre is on Briar Road, just off Twickenham Green (020 8867 2380), and offers family carers advice, counselling and help with funding applications. Age UK Richmond runs its Twickenham Wellbeing Centre on Arragon Road on weekdays.
Live-in care and short breaks
A live-in carer needs their own bedroom and a daily break, which we build into the plan. In a two-bedroom conversion that usually means the spare room becomes the carer's room. See live-in care.
If you are the one doing the caring, a live-in carer can also cover a week or two while you go away. Ask the council for a carer's assessment as well, because it can lead to funded breaks. Our Whitton supported living home is next door to Twickenham and takes respite as well as permanent stays.

Twickenham questions
Questions families ask us about Twickenham. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionMum lives in an upstairs flat in a converted house. Can she still have care at home?
Yes. The carer works with the stairs she has: help getting up and down safely, and getting washed in a small bathroom. If the stairs become too risky we will say so, and talk through equipment or a move to ground-floor living.
Will a rugby match stop the carer getting to Dad?
It shouldn't, if we plan for it. We check the stadium calendar and adjust visit times or routes on event days, and a live-in carer is unaffected because they are already there.
Dad was taken to West Middlesex. Can you still help when he comes home to Twickenham?
Yes. The hospital being in Hounslow makes no difference. Call us while he is still on the ward so we can talk to the discharge team about what he will need.
Is St Margarets or Whitton covered by this page?
Both have Twickenham addresses and both are in Richmond upon Thames, and we cover them. Our Whitton home is a supported living house, not a care office.
I care for my wife. Where do I start for some help myself?
Richmond Carers Centre on Briar Road, and a carer's assessment from the council, which you can start online. Both are free.
