Home Care in Hampton Hill
Help at home for people living off the High Street, between Bushy Park, the Longford River and Fulwell: live-in care, short breaks for family carers, and visits where we can staff them.
Yes, we provide home care in Hampton Hill. We can arrange a live-in carer anywhere in this part of TW12, and visiting care depends on having a carer who lives nearby, which we confirm before we agree a plan. First, Jackie, our registered manager, visits for a free assessment, and you receive a written care plan.
A High Street worth keeping up with
Hampton Hill was first known as "New Hampton", and its High Street of independent shops, cafés, pubs and a long-established bakery is a conservation area. For an older person this is a real asset. Being able to get to the High Street, choose your own bread and say hello to people who know you is a large part of staying independent, and it is exactly what a companionship visit or a carer's help with shopping should protect.
One date to note: the High Street closes for an evening each year, usually in late November, for the Christmas parade. If evening visits fall on that day we plan around the closure.
The houses, and what they mean for care
Most homes here are Victorian terraces and cottages, interwar semis, and some low-rise flats. Each type raises its own practical questions:
- Victorian cottages often have a single bathroom upstairs and a tight, turning staircase that a standard stairlift may not suit.
- Interwar semis usually have a straight flight of stairs and a box room, which can serve as a live-in carer's bedroom if a single bed and storage fit.
- Ground-floor flats are the simplest for wheelchair users and for equipment such as hoists.
The council's occupational therapists assess for adaptations, and we will tell you what we see at our assessment.
Who do I contact first about care in Hampton Hill?
It depends on the situation.
If the council may help pay: Richmond Council is responsible for Hampton Hill. Use its online adult social care enquiry or ring Adult Social Care on 020 8891 7971 during weekday office hours. Assessing needs costs nothing; if the council contributes, it checks income and savings first, and you can ask for the money as a direct payment to spend with an agency you choose. Our Richmond upon Thames page explains funding and NHS Continuing Healthcare.
If you are paying privately: call us on 0203 375 4047. We give a written quote after the assessment and don't publish prices.
If you are the family carer and running out of steam: Richmond Carers Centre, in Briar Road off Twickenham Green, offers advice and emotional support, and the council's carer's assessment can be started online.
Teddington Memorial is a few minutes away. The community hospital on Hampton Road, Teddington, runs the borough's urgent treatment centre and rehab wards, so someone from Hampton Hill may spend time recovering there after a stay at Kingston Hospital. Ask the ward about care at home well before the discharge date.
Buses and trains
The 285 runs from Kingston to Heathrow through Teddington and Hampton Hill. The R68 links to Teddington, Richmond and Hampton Court, and the R70 to Twickenham and Richmond. Fulwell station, at the northern edge of the area, is on the Shepperton branch to Waterloo, and Hampton station is also within reach. From Lewisham, the trip is around 75 to 90 minutes, so live-in care is what we can offer most reliably here.
Live-in care
The carer lives in the spare room, takes a break each day that we schedule into the plan, and can look after both of a couple. Details on our live-in care page.
Respite
For a planned break, a live-in carer can stay for a week or two. Our Whitton home, close to Hampton Hill, also offers respite stays. See respite care.

Hampton Hill questions
Questions families ask us about Hampton Hill. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionIs Hampton Hill part of Hampton for your purposes?
They share the TW12 postcode, and much of the boundary between them runs along the Longford River. We cover both, and there is a separate page for home care in Hampton.
Mum still walks to the High Street with her rollator. Can a carer go with her?
Yes. Walking with her, carrying the shopping and keeping an eye on kerbs and crossings is a good use of a visit, and it keeps her doing something she values.
Our cottage has a winding staircase. Will that stop live-in care?
Not on its own. What matters is a bedroom for the carer and a safe way to manage washing and the toilet. We will look at the layout and suggest options, including equipment the council may provide.
Dad has dementia and gets anxious at night. What can you offer?
A live-in carer gives company in the house overnight, and our dementia care is planned around his routines. Age UK Richmond also lists dementia-friendly groups across the borough.
