Home Care in Teddington TW11
Care at home after a stay at Teddington Memorial Hospital, live-in care for houses near Bushy Park, and help in the flats around Broad Street and the High Street.
Yes, we can arrange home care in Teddington. A live-in carer is something we can put in place anywhere in TW11; for visits several times a day we need a carer who lives within reach, so we check that before promising anything. Jackie, our registered manager, starts with a free assessment in the home and a written care plan.
Coming home from Teddington Memorial
Teddington has something most neighbourhoods don't: a community hospital on its own doorstep. Teddington Memorial Hospital on Hampton Road, run by Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust, has inpatient rehabilitation wards, including the Pamela Bryant Inpatient Unit, and houses the borough's urgent treatment centre. Patients can move here from Kingston Hospital to get stronger before going home.
That is the moment to plan care, while the person is still on the ward. The NHS Richmond Response and Rehabilitation Team is also based on the site and may visit for a short period after discharge. Our carers then pick up the daily things: getting washed and dressed, meals, medication prompts and the exercises the physiotherapist left behind. Read more on our hospital discharge care page.
More flats than you might expect
Teddington looks like a suburb of family houses, and towards Bushy Park it is, with larger detached houses and Victorian and Edwardian terraces and semis. But the centre, along Hampton Road, Broad Street and the High Street, is mid-rise, with offices and flats above the shops.
That splits the care picture in two. In a house near the park there is usually a spare bedroom, which is what live-in care needs. In a one-bedroom flat there isn't, so visiting care, or a live-in arrangement only after a move, is the practical route. Flats with a lift are easy for carers and for wheelchairs; older blocks without one are not, and we will ask about it.
The lock and the park. Teddington Lock, where the tidal Thames ends, is reached on foot over the Teddington Lock footbridges. Bushy Park is at the other end of town. Both are good, flat walks for someone who is getting their strength back with a carer beside them.
Is home care in Teddington paid for by the council?
Sometimes, in part. Richmond Council's Adult Social Care team carries out a free needs assessment; you can request it through its online referral page or by calling 020 8891 7971 on weekdays. If someone is eligible, the council then looks at their income and savings to work out what they pay. A personal budget can be taken as a direct payment and used with an agency you choose. People with a primary health need may qualify for NHS Continuing Healthcare instead. We quote in writing after our assessment and publish no prices; the Richmond upon Thames page has more on funding.
GPs, trains and buses
Teddington's GP practices include Thameside Medical Practice at Thames House on the High Street (TW11 8HU) and The Park Road Surgery at 37 Park Road (TW11 0AU). Seven bus routes serve the town centre (33, 281, 285, 481, 681, R68 and the SL7), all linking to Twickenham or Kingston, and Kingston Hospital is a short drive away.
Teddington station is on the Kingston loop, with trains to Waterloo in both directions. From our Lewisham office that is still a long trip, around 75 to 90 minutes, which is why we are careful about what visiting care we offer here.
A break for the family carer
If you are caring for someone in TW11, ask Richmond Council for a carer's assessment; the result can include respite and a Carer's Emergency Card. We can supply a live-in carer for a planned break, and our supported living homes in Kingston and Whitton, both close to Teddington, take respite stays. See also respite care.

Questions from Teddington families
Questions families ask us about Teddington. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionMum is on a rehab ward at Teddington Memorial. When should we call you?
As soon as there is talk of a discharge date. That gives us time to assess her, agree a plan with you and check what we can staff before she comes home.
Does the urgent treatment centre mean we don't need Kingston Hospital?
No. The urgent treatment centre at Teddington handles minor injuries and illnesses. Serious emergencies still go to the A&E at Kingston Hospital. Our carers call 999 when that is needed.
Dad's flat by Broad Street only has one bedroom. Is live-in care out?
In a one-bedroom flat, usually yes, because the carer needs their own room. Visiting care is the alternative where we can staff it, and we will be straight with you about that.
Can a carer take my husband to his appointments at Park Road?
Yes. Going with him to the surgery, or to outpatients at Teddington Memorial, can be part of his visits, and the carer can pick up prescriptions on the way back.
