Live-in Care in Cranford
Round-the-clock help from one carer who lives in, for people on Hounslow's western edge between the Bath Road, the Parkway and the River Crane.
Yes, we arrange live-in care in Cranford, in both TW4 and TW5. A carer moves in, has a bedroom of their own, and gives personal care, meals, medication support and company through the day. Our long journey from Lewisham makes no difference to it, because the carer is already living in the house. It starts with a free assessment at home and a written care plan.
Flat or house? The first question in Cranford
At the 2011 census Cranford had slightly more flats than semi-detached houses, with a large number of terraces as well. That split decides a lot about live-in care here.
- A semi or terrace nearly always has a second bedroom upstairs for the carer.
- A two-bedroom flat works if the second room can be cleared for a bed and storage. If the flat is on an upper floor with no lift, we look at how the person gets out for appointments, and whether a carer can safely help them on the stairs.
- A one-bedroom flat is not suitable, because the carer has nowhere to sleep. We will tell you that plainly and talk through visiting care, which depends on whether we have a carer near enough, or other housing.
How does a relief carer get to Cranford?
There is no station in Cranford, so changeover day needs a little planning. A carer travelling by train can come through Hayes & Harlington, just over the border in Hillingdon, which is on the Elizabeth line and has lifts to every platform, useful for someone arriving with a suitcase. Others use Hounslow West on the Piccadilly line, which has stairs to the platforms. Either way, the last leg is a bus or a taxi.
Most streets have free on-street parking, so a carer who drives can usually park outside while the two carers hand over. We plan each changeover with you so the arriving carer is in the house before the other one leaves.
Nights under the flight path
Cranford sits directly below a flight path into Heathrow. A live-in carer is entitled to a proper night's sleep, and so is the person they care for. At the assessment we ask which bedroom is quietest for each of them, and we note in the care plan if aircraft noise wakes your relative or unsettles them during the day. If disturbed nights become a regular pattern, we review the arrangement with you instead of leaving one carer to cope.
Getting across the Parkway. The A312 Parkway cuts Cranford High Street in two, and some stretches beside it have a grass verge instead of a pavement. If your relative uses a wheelchair or walker, we plan their outings around safe crossings, and the carer takes the route you agree.
A break for the carer, an outing for your relative
Every day the live-in carer has protected time off. Two places on the doorstep suit it.
- Avenue Park on the High Street was once the grounds of an 18th-century house. Its northern end is woodland along the River Crane, and Cranford Community Park lies across the river. There is no car park, so it is a walking outing.
- Meadowbank Community Hub and Library, on Community Close, where Cranford Library moved, has large print books, audiobooks and books in Gujarati, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu. It is closed on Wednesdays and Fridays, so plan library trips for the other days.
For churchgoers, Holy Angels Anglican church and the Roman Catholic church of Our Lady and St Christopher are both on Cranford High Street. A live-in carer can take your relative to services, and the care plan notes which ones matter to them.
Hillingdon Hospital, West Middlesex and going home
Depending on where they live in Cranford, your relative may be discharged from West Middlesex University Hospital in Isleworth or from Hillingdon Hospital. Live-in care makes a discharge less of a gamble: the carer is in the house from the first evening, can collect prescriptions and notice early if something is wrong. Social care funding still runs through Hounslow Council, whichever hospital it is.
Funding
We give a written quote after the free assessment. Hounslow Council may contribute after a needs assessment and means test; our live-in care in Hounslow page explains how. If your relative's needs are mainly health needs, ask the hospital or GP about NHS Continuing Healthcare. For the service in general, see live-in care in London. For visiting care, see home care in Cranford.

Cranford live-in care: your questions
Questions families ask us about Cranford. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionMum's flat is on the first floor with no lift. Can she still have a live-in carer?
If the flat has a second bedroom, yes. We will look at the stairs at the assessment and agree how she gets in and out. If the stairs become unsafe for her, we will raise it with you and the council early.
The carer is coming by train. Where will they arrive?
Usually Hayes & Harlington or Hounslow West, followed by a bus or taxi. We sort out the route with the carer before changeover day so you are not left waiting.
Can the carer take Dad to Mass on Sundays?
Yes. Write it into the care plan at the assessment. Our Lady and St Christopher is on the High Street, so it can be part of his weekly routine, with the carer's own break arranged around it.
Dad is in Hillingdon Hospital. Can you assess him there?
We can start the conversation while he is on the ward and arrange to see the home before he leaves. Tell the discharge team that you are arranging live-in care so the care plan and any equipment can be ready together.
