Home Care in Cranford, TW4 and TW5

Care at home on Hounslow's Heathrow edge: live-in care, personal care and dementia support for people living around Cranford High Street, the Parkway and Berkeley Parade.

Yes, we can provide home care in Cranford, and for most families here the dependable form is live-in care, because a carer who lives in is not affected by the long journey from our Lewisham office. Visiting care is possible only where we have a carer living nearby, so we check that first. Either way, care starts with a free home assessment and a written care plan.

Can you send a visiting carer to Cranford?

Sometimes, and we will tell you which before you plan around it. Cranford has no station. The nearest are Hounslow West and Hatton Cross on the Piccadilly line, and Hayes and Harlington on the Elizabeth line, just over the border in Hillingdon. From Lewisham High Street, any of those routes takes well over an hour before the last stretch by bus or on foot.

A carer who lives in west London can make visits work, especially longer daytime calls. Short early-morning and late-evening calls every day are much harder to cover reliably from where we are. When we cannot staff them, live-in care is usually the answer.

Living under the flight path

Cranford is the part of the borough closest to Heathrow, just east of the airport across the River Crane, and it sits directly beneath a flight path from the northern runway. Long-standing residents may barely notice the noise. For someone newly living with dementia, though, sudden loud noise can be frightening or disorientating, and it is worth raising at the assessment.

Practical things help: knowing which room is quietest, keeping a familiar radio or television on during busy periods, and having a carer who recognises when distress is about the noise and not about pain or illness. If someone is waking at night, a live-in carer can be there for reassurance, with their own rest arranged in the care plan.

A walk with some history in it. Cranford's 1838 village lock-up, one of only two left in the Metropolitan Police area, still stands, and Cranford Park with St Dunstan's church lies just across the A312. A slow walk out with a carer counts as care, and gives the day a shape.

Homes along the Parkway and the High Street

The Parkway (the A312) was built through Cranford in 1959 as a bypass, and the M4 followed through the north of the area in the early 1960s. Between them and the Bath Road are interwar and post-war streets of semis and short terraces, with a good number of low-rise flats. Berkeley Parade, the 1930s shopping parade south of the Bath Road with its little slate-turreted “château” style frontages, is an easy landmark to give directions by.

For care, the mix matters. In a semi or terrace the bathroom is usually upstairs, and the spare bedroom that makes live-in care possible is often there too. In a first-floor flat without a lift, the stairs to the front door can decide whether someone can get out at all, and that shapes how a carer helps with appointments and shopping.

Hillingdon Hospital or West Middlesex?

Most Hounslow residents are treated and discharged from West Middlesex University Hospital in Isleworth. Cranford is unusual: Hillingdon Hospital on Pield Heath Road, run by The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, is an alternative for some residents on this western edge. The discharge process is different at each hospital, but the advice is the same: tell the ward early that you are arranging care at home, and call us while the discharge is still being planned. Our hospital discharge support page explains how a live-in carer can be ready for the first weeks home.

The council route from Cranford

Cranford is in Hounslow for social care purposes, even where the hospital is in Hillingdon. Adult social care enquiries go to Hounslow's First Contact Team on 020 8583 3100, or online from the council's request support page. Our Hounslow home care page explains assessments, direct payments and how the council charges for care.

Live-in care

A live-in carer provides personal care, meals, medication support and company, and needs a spare bedroom. It works for couples too. If a residential setting is ever needed, our Uxbridge home is the nearest of our three supported living homes to Cranford by road.

Respite for a family carer

Family carers in Cranford can ask the council for a carer's assessment, which is the gateway to the council's Short Breaks service. Privately, we can arrange a live-in carer for a planned break. See respite care in Hounslow.

Ask a question
Mum has dementia and the planes upset her. Is live-in care a good idea here?

It can be, because one familiar person is there through the day and can settle her when a plane goes over. We would look at which room is quietest for her bedroom and build calming routines into the plan. Her GP can also review whether anything else is adding to the distress.

Dad was admitted to Hillingdon Hospital, not West Middlesex. Does that change who arranges his care?

The hospital team plans the discharge, but ongoing council-funded care still comes from Hounslow Council if he lives in Cranford. Private care with us can be arranged whichever hospital he is in.

Which postcodes count as Cranford?

Cranford straddles TW4 and TW5, from Berkeley Parade south of the Bath Road up past the High Street to the M4. We cover all of it, and the streets towards Hounslow West too.

Is there dementia support near Cranford?

Age UK Hounslow runs a free Dementia Station every Tuesday at Southville Community Centre in Feltham, for people with dementia and the family members who support them. It is a short drive south of Cranford.
