Live-in Care in Parsons Green

A carer who lives in the spare room of a Parsons Green house, so one person, or a husband and wife together, can stay in the SW6 home they know between Fulham Road and New King's Road.

Yes, we can arrange live-in care in Parsons Green. A carer moves into a spare bedroom in the house and helps with washing, dressing, meals, medication and getting out, day after day, with a protected break and holiday cover that we organise. It begins with a free home assessment by Jackie, our registered manager, and a written care plan agreed with you.

Turning a spare room into the carer's room

Parsons Green has more whole Victorian houses than most of Fulham, and that is the main reason live-in care tends to be practical here. The carer needs a bedroom of their own with a bed, somewhere to hang clothes and a door that closes.

The harder question in a tall terrace is where the person being cared for sleeps. If the main bedroom and bathroom are two flights up, think about who goes where. Putting the carer's room on the same floor means they can hear a call at night. If the stairs are becoming unsafe, a bedroom on the ground floor with a commode, or a stairlift where the staircase is wide enough, keeps the house usable.

In the purpose-built mansion flats nearby, count bedrooms first. A two-bedroom flat with a lift can work very well. A one-bedroom flat can't take a live-in carer at all; there, the choice is visiting care in Parsons Green.

Two people, one carer, one house

Couples are where a large family house earns its keep. One live-in carer can give full personal care to the partner who needs it and lighter help to the other: a hand in the bath, cooking, the shopping on New King's Road, company on the walk to the green. The care plan names what the carer does for each of them. If both partners need help at night, say so early, because that changes what one carer can safely do.

Changeover day at Parsons Green station

Live-in carers usually work a stretch and then hand over to a colleague, so the handover itself needs planning. Parsons Green station is on the Wimbledon branch of the District line, between Fulham Broadway and Putney Bridge, so an incoming carer can change at Earl's Court and arrive without a car. From most front doors here it's a short walk.

A carer who drives needs a parking session booked by the resident on the council's visitor permit through RingGo, because Parsons Green is all controlled parking. If the person has a Blue Badge or is registered disabled, apply for the disabled residents' visitor permit, which lets visitors park at a reduced rate. Streets south of New King's Road, towards Wandsworth Bridge Road and South Park, fall inside the South Fulham Clean Air Neighbourhood, and the same booking lets the car through the cameras.

A library at the top of Parsons Green Lane. Fulham Library at 598 Fulham Road is about 50 metres from the Parsons Green Lane junction, with a lift from pavement level and an accessible toilet. It's open daily except bank holidays: somewhere for a carer to spend part of their break, or to take someone who still enjoys choosing a large-print book.

Where the carer's break goes

Every live-in carer needs a proper break each day, away from the job. In Parsons Green there is somewhere to go within minutes: the green itself, Eel Brook Common towards Fulham Broadway, the cafés on New King's Road, or South Park on Peterborough Road, which has a rose garden, a wildlife garden and public toilets. During that time, someone else needs to be with the person if they can't be left: a family member, a friend, or a short visit we arrange if a carer is available.

Will the council pay for live-in care in Parsons Green?

Possibly in part, and only after a Care Act assessment. Hammersmith & Fulham doesn't charge for the home care it arranges, but whether it will fund a live-in arrangement depends on what the assessment says is needed. Ring Adult Social Care free on 0800 145 6095 and ask about a personal budget taken as a direct payment. If the main needs are medical, ask the GP or ward about NHS Continuing Healthcare. We give our own price in writing after the free assessment, never over the phone. The Hammersmith and Fulham live-in care page sets out the funding routes in more detail, and live-in care in London explains how placements work.

Home from Chelsea and Westminster

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, a short way east along Fulham Road, is the nearest A&E for Parsons Green. A live-in carer suits the first weeks after a stay there, when someone is steady enough to leave the ward but not to be alone overnight in a house with stairs. If that sounds likely, tell the discharge team you're arranging live-in care and phone us while a date is still being discussed, so the carer's room and any equipment are ready. See hospital discharge support.

Live-in care in Parsons Green: your questions

Questions families ask us about Parsons Green. If yours is not here, ask us directly.

Ask a question
Our house is on four floors. Where should the live-in carer sleep?

As close as possible to the person they care for, ideally on the same landing. If that means moving a bedroom down a floor, we'll talk it through at the assessment and plan the bathroom and stairs around the new layout.

The house has one bathroom, on the top floor. Can the carer share it with Mum?

Yes. The carer needs reasonable use of a bathroom and the kitchen; a separate one is welcome, not required. What matters more in a tall house is whether Mum can still get up to that bathroom safely, which we look at during the assessment.

Dad is in a one-bedroom mansion flat near the green. What are the options?

Live-in care isn't possible without a second bedroom. Regular visits are the usual answer, and you can ask the council whether a move to a larger or adapted home is realistic. We'll be straight about which option is likely to work.

Who books the carer's parking if we live outside the borough?

The visitor permit belongs to your parent as the resident, but you can manage the RingGo account on their behalf. Set it up before the first changeover so the carer isn't fined at the cameras or in the bay.

My parents both need care but in different ways. Is one carer enough?

Often, if one needs a lot of help and the other a little, and nights are mostly settled. If both need help several times a night, one carer can't safely cover it, and we'll tell you so at the assessment.
