Home Care in Parsons Green, SW6

Visiting care and live-in care in the terraced streets around the green, Eel Brook Common and New King's Road, planned around the free home care Hammersmith & Fulham Council arranges.

Yes, we provide home care in Parsons Green: visits for washing, dressing, medication and company, and live-in care where the house allows it. Everything starts with a free home assessment by Jackie, our registered manager, and a written care plan. Our office is in Lewisham, so ask us early whether we can staff the visit times you need. Live-in care is the arrangement we can promise most reliably.

Whole houses, and what that makes possible

The green itself is a small triangle between New King's Road and Parsons Green Lane, with Lady Margaret School on its edge. The streets around it run roughly from Fulham Road down to Wandsworth Bridge Road and across from Munster Road to Harwood Road, and they are mostly larger Victorian terraces. More of them are still whole houses here than in the rest of Fulham, where so many were split into upper and lower flats.

That matters for care. A whole house usually has a spare bedroom, which is the one thing a live-in carer needs. It also often has a front room on the ground floor that can become a bedroom if the stairs get too much. That move, with a commode or a downstairs shower room, can let someone stay at home. In the purpose-built mansion flats nearby, the question is the lift instead: whether it takes a wheelchair, and whether there's room to turn a hoist in the bedroom.

How much does home care cost in Parsons Green?

If the council arranges it, nothing. Hammersmith & Fulham abolished charges for council home care in 2015, so a Parsons Green resident who meets the national eligibility criteria pays nothing for the hours their assessment sets. Care homes are still charged. An assessment can be requested by phone on the council's freephone line, 0800 145 6095, during weekday office hours, or through the council's assessment contact page.

Private care costs money, and we don't quote over the phone. After our free assessment we give you a written figure. An agency can cover what the council package leaves out: longer visits, a companion for the afternoon, or full-time live-in care in a house with the room for it. Our Hammersmith and Fulham page explains how private care can sit alongside the council's, including direct payments.

Getting a carer to the door

Parsons Green station is on the Wimbledon branch of the District line, one stop from Fulham Broadway. Buses help with the last stretch: the 22 runs along New King's Road and the 14 along Fulham Road. From our office it's a long trip across London, which is why we're careful about promising early-morning visits.

A carer who drives needs a parking session booked through the council's resident visitor permit on RingGo, because the whole area is controlled parking. If your street is south towards Wandsworth Bridge Road, check whether it's behind a Clean Air Neighbourhood camera. The same visitor permit lets a carer through without a fine, but only if the session is booked first.

Two open spaces within a short walk. The green and Eel Brook Common are both flat and close to most front doors here. For someone who has stopped going out alone, a slow lap of Eel Brook Common on a carer's arm is a proper outing, and it's exactly the kind of thing a companionship visit is for.

When a hospital stay comes first

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, a short way east along Fulham Road, is the nearest A&E, and many Parsons Green residents are discharged from there. Call us while the ward is still planning the discharge, not on the morning they send someone home, so we can assess and say honestly what we can cover. See hospital discharge support.

If a carer spots a problem late in the week, the nearest of the borough's extended-hours GP hubs is Cassidy Medical Centre on Fulham Road, which the council lists as open for weekday evening appointments and from 9am to 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Appointments go through your own practice or 111.

Live-in care and short breaks

A husband or wife caring full time can ask the council for a carer's assessment on the same 0800 number. Carers Network (020 8960 3033), which the council names as the first contact for unpaid carers in the borough, also offers assessments and advice. When the family carer needs a proper holiday, one of our live-in carers can take over at home for a set period. That is respite care without anyone leaving the house.

Parsons Green FAQs

Parsons Green questions

Questions families ask us about Parsons Green. If yours is not here, ask us directly.

Ask a question
Mum's bedroom is on the second floor of a Victorian terrace. Can she stay there?

Sometimes, with a stair rail or a stairlift if the staircase is wide enough. If not, the ground-floor front room often becomes her bedroom. Ask the council's assessment for an occupational therapist to look at the stairs, and we will plan the care around whichever layout she ends up with.

The council already sends carers twice a day. Can you add an afternoon visit?

Yes, if we can staff the time. Private visits can sit between council ones, for company, a walk or a meal. We will need to know the council carers' times so the visits fit together.

Do you cover the streets between the green and Wandsworth Bridge Road?

Yes, and the Sands End side beyond it. Some of those streets are behind Clean Air Neighbourhood cameras, so a carer who drives needs a visitor session booked in advance.

Can a live-in carer look after my father and still give my mother some help?

Yes. One live-in carer can give your father full personal care and help your mother with lighter things. The care plan sets out what each of them needs and when the carer takes their breaks.
