Home Care in Edmonton, N9 and N18
Care at home in Lower Edmonton around Edmonton Green, and in Upper Edmonton along Fore Street, Angel Edmonton and Silver Street down to the North Circular.
Yes, we provide home care in Edmonton. It begins with a free assessment at home with Jackie, our registered manager, and a written care plan. Edmonton is the part of Enfield we reach most easily, because Edmonton Green and Silver Street are on the Overground Weaver line from Liverpool Street, about an hour from our Lewisham office. Even so, visiting care depends on which carers are free at the times you need, so ask us. Live-in care can be arranged anywhere in N9 and N18.
Lower Edmonton and Upper Edmonton
Lower Edmonton, N9, centres on Edmonton Green: the shopping centre with its indoor market, the bus station and the leisure centre. Church Street, a short walk west, still has All Saints' Church, largely rebuilt in the 15th century, and Lamb's Cottage, where Charles Lamb died in 1834.
Upper Edmonton, N18, runs along Fore Street to Angel Edmonton and Silver Street. It includes Pymmes Park, with its walled garden, and reaches the North Circular and North Middlesex Hospital. Meridian Water, to the east, is new housing with its own station.
Tower flat or terrace: what changes the care plan
Edmonton's housing comes in two types, and each one shapes care differently.
- Flats in the towers and estates. Grampian, Mendip and Pennine Houses, the 1970s towers of 25 storeys and more above Edmonton Green, are the best known. In a high flat, everything depends on the lift. We plan for the lift being out of action, and if a hoist or shower chair is needed in a small bathroom, we measure for it first.
- Victorian and Edwardian terraces. These are common in the streets off Fore Street and Hertford Road. The bathroom is usually upstairs and the staircase is narrow and steep. A bed downstairs, or a stairlift through the council's occupational therapist, are the usual answers.
For live-in care, the deciding question is whether there is a spare bedroom the carer can use as their own. A one-bedroom flat cannot host a live-in carer. A two-bedroom flat or a terraced house usually can.
Can you help when someone comes home from North Middlesex Hospital?
Yes. North Middlesex University Hospital, on Sterling Way in N18, is Edmonton's A&E and the hospital most residents here are discharged from. Since January 2025 it has been part of the Royal Free London trust, which also runs Enfield's district nursing. When someone is going home needing more help than before, the ward, the community teams and Enfield Adult Social Care plan the discharge together. If you want us to provide the care, call us while the ward is still planning, not on the day of discharge. Our hospital discharge support page explains what we need to know.
How do I ask Enfield Council to assess my mum in Edmonton?
Contact Enfield Adult Social Care's Single Point of Access on 020 8379 1001 (Monday to Friday), or use the council's online form, which gov.uk's needs assessment page links to. A financial assessment follows. Council funding can come as a direct payment on a prepaid Enfield E-Card, so you choose the provider. If her needs are mainly health needs, ask about NHS Continuing Healthcare. We don't publish prices. We give you a written quote once we have assessed. Our Enfield home care page covers the council route in more detail.
The dementia day centre has moved. Age UK Enfield's Mabel Churn Centre used to be at the Parker Centre in Edmonton. In 2026 it moved to 55b The Sunny Road, Brimsdown (020 8351 1131). The 191 bus runs from Edmonton Green to Brimsdown station. A morning visit from a carer can be planned around getting someone ready for a centre day.
Respite for family carers in N9 and N18
Enfield's carers' assessments are carried out by Enfield Carers Centre on the council's behalf (020 8366 3677). The centre is at Britannia House on Baker Street, which the W8 and 191 buses reach from Edmonton Green. We can provide respite at home: a live-in carer while you are away for a week or two, or a sit-in so you can get out for an afternoon.

Edmonton questions
Questions families ask us about Edmonton. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionMy mother lives high up in one of the Edmonton Green towers. What if the lift breaks down?
Her care plan sets out what happens before visits start: who the carer contacts, and how her medication and meals are still covered. If she uses a wheelchair to get out, tell us, because a broken lift affects her far more than the carer.
Is Edmonton close enough to Lewisham for daily visits?
It is the closest part of Enfield to us, but it is still about an hour each way. One longer visit a day is easier to staff than three or four short ones. Tell us the postcode and the times, and we will say honestly whether we can cover them.
Dad used to go to the dementia centre at the Parker Centre. Where is it now?
Age UK Enfield moved the service to the Mabel Churn Centre at 55b The Sunny Road, Brimsdown EN3 5EF, in 2026. Places are arranged with Age UK Enfield directly, on 020 8351 1131.
Our street near North Middlesex Hospital has parking restrictions. Can a carer park?
Enfield issues carer permits for people who drive to home care visits inside a controlled parking zone, with the care confirmed by a doctor, district nurse or social worker. Carers travelling by Overground or bus don't need one.
Do you cover Angel Edmonton, Meridian Water and the streets by Pymmes Park?
Yes. We cover all of N9 and N18, including Edmonton Green, Church Street, Bury Street, Angel Edmonton, Silver Street, Pymmes Park and the new homes at Meridian Water.
