Home Care in Tottenham, N17 and N15
Care at home along Tottenham High Road, from Seven Sisters and Bruce Grove up to White Hart Lane and Northumberland Park, and out to Tower Gardens and Broadwater Farm.
Yes, we provide home care in Tottenham. Every package starts with a free assessment at home with Jackie, our registered manager, and a written care plan. Tottenham is one of the more practical parts of Haringey for us to reach, because the Victoria line runs from central London to Seven Sisters and Tottenham Hale, but visiting care still depends on which carers are free at the times you need, so ask us. Live-in care can be arranged anywhere in N17 and N15.
From Seven Sisters to Northumberland Park
Tottenham is long and thin. The High Road runs north from the Seven Sisters junction, past Bruce Grove and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, to Northumberland Park on the Enfield border. West of it sit Bruce Castle, a Grade I listed Tudor house that is now the local history museum, and Lordship Recreation Ground. East of it the streets run down towards Tottenham Hale and the Lea Valley.
Many older residents have lived here for decades, and Tottenham has long-established Caribbean, African and Turkish communities. A care plan should fit the way someone actually lives: the food they cook, the church or mosque they attend, the friends who still call round.
Terraces, Tower Gardens and the big estates
Tottenham's housing falls into three broad kinds, and each changes the care plan in a different way.
- Victorian terraces off the High Road and around Bruce Grove. The bathroom is usually upstairs and the stairs are narrow. A bed downstairs, a commode, or a stairlift through the council's occupational therapist are the usual answers.
- The Tower Gardens cottage estate, built by the London County Council from 1904 near Lordship Lane. Cottage-style houses with front gardens: easier to get in and out of than a flat, but the rooms are compact, so a hoist or a hospital bed needs measuring before it is ordered.
- Post-war estates such as Broadwater Farm and Northumberland Park. Many flats are walk-ups with no lift, and most at Broadwater Farm have one or two bedrooms. A one-bedroom flat cannot host a live-in carer, who needs a room of their own.
Match days and getting around N17
Carers coming from south London use the Victoria line to Seven Sisters or Tottenham Hale, or the Overground Weaver line to Bruce Grove and White Hart Lane. Buses such as the 149 and 259 run along the High Road.
Driving is harder on stadium days. Haringey's event-day parking restrictions extend the controlled hours around the ground. In the Bruce Castle zone, for example, an event day means controls from 8am to 8.30pm on weekdays and 8am to 8pm at weekends. Some streets have no controls at all except on event days. If your relative lives near the stadium, we plan visits around the fixture and concert list.
Coming home from North Middlesex
For most of Tottenham the A&E and the ward someone is discharged from will be North Middlesex University Hospital, just over the border on Sterling Way in Edmonton. It has been part of the Royal Free London trust since January 2025. When someone needs more help at home than before, discharge is planned with Haringey Adult Social Care and the Whittington Health community services that cover Haringey. Call us while the ward is still planning, not on the morning of discharge. Our hospital discharge support page explains what we need to know.
Two places worth knowing in N17. The Grace Organisation on Pretoria Road runs a day centre and lunch club for older people, with minibus transport and meals on wheels (020 8808 0718). The Haringey Over 50s Forum holds a Thursday coffee morning at the Lordship Rec hub. A morning visit can be timed so someone is washed, dressed and ready when the minibus arrives.
How much does home care cost in Tottenham?
We don't publish prices. After the assessment we give you a written quote for the visits or live-in care agreed. If you want Haringey Council to contribute, start with a needs assessment through the council's adult social care assessments page or on 020 8489 1400 (press 1, then the option for your area). A financial assessment decides what the council pays and what your relative pays. Council funding can be taken as a direct payment, which lets the family choose the provider. Where needs are mainly health needs, ask about NHS Continuing Healthcare. The council route is covered in more depth on our Haringey home care page.
Live-in care and respite in Tottenham
Live-in care does not depend on how far Tottenham is from our Lewisham office: the carer moves in. It suits a terrace or a two-bedroom flat, and one carer can support a couple. For family carers, Carers First provides Haringey's carers' support and advice on carers' assessments (0300 303 1555). We can cover a week or two of respite at home while you are away.

Tottenham questions
Questions families ask us about Tottenham. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionMum lives near the stadium. Will match days disrupt her visits?
They can if nobody plans for them. Road closures and extended parking controls affect the streets around the ground on event days. We check the fixture and concert dates, and a carer travelling by Overground or bus is not affected by the parking controls.
Dad's flat on Broadwater Farm has one bedroom. Can he still have live-in care?
Not in that flat, because a live-in carer needs a bedroom of their own. Visiting care is the alternative. Tell us his postcode and the times he needs help, and we will say honestly whether we can staff them.
Can a carer get my aunt ready for the Grace Organisation minibus?
Yes, if we can staff a visit at that time. A morning call can cover getting her washed, dressed and given her tablets, and ready at the door for the pick-up. Places at the centre are arranged with the Grace Organisation directly.
Do you cover Seven Sisters and South Tottenham as well as N17?
Yes. We cover N15 and N17, including Seven Sisters, South Tottenham, West Green, Bruce Grove, Tower Gardens, White Hart Lane, Northumberland Park and Tottenham Hale.
My mother speaks Turkish at home. Can you match a carer who speaks it?
We cannot promise a particular language. Tell us at the assessment what matters most to her, and we will be honest about who we have available before care starts.
