Home Care in Palmers Green, N13

Care at home along Green Lanes and around the Triangle, by Broomfield Park, and on the Edwardian streets off Aldermans Hill, Fox Lane and Hazelwood Lane.

Yes, we can arrange home care in Palmers Green. Live-in care is available anywhere in N13. Visiting care depends on whether we have a carer free who can reach you at the right times, because Palmers Green is more than an hour from our Lewisham office. Either way, it starts with a free assessment at home and a written care plan.

How would a carer get to Palmers Green?

Palmers Green station is on the Great Northern Hertford Loop, with trains from Moorgate. Bowes Park, one stop south, serves the lower end of N13. A carer coming from south-east London changes in the City, and the whole journey usually takes 65 to 80 minutes. The 141 bus also runs from London Bridge up Green Lanes to the Palmers Green end, but it is slow.

Locally, the 121 and 329 pass the Triangle, and the W6 runs from Southgate station through Palmers Green to North Middlesex Hospital and Edmonton Green. That makes the W6 the useful route for hospital appointments and visiting. In practice, live-in care is what we can arrange most reliably here. For visits, ring with your postcode and the times you need, and we will say plainly whether we can cover them.

Edwardian houses, and the flats they became

Palmers Green was farmland and a small hamlet until 1902, when landowners began selling large plots for building. The Old Park and Hazelwood Park estates came first, and the terraces and semis between Green Lanes, Aldermans Hill and Hedge Lane followed quickly. Many of those houses have since been split into an upstairs and a downstairs flat.

That split matters for care:

  • A ground-floor flat is often the easiest kind of home here. Everything is on one level, though the bathroom is usually small and at the back.
  • An upper flat usually has its own front door and a single steep flight of stairs. Whether a stairlift fits is a question for an occupational therapist, and a leaseholder may need the freeholder's agreement before one goes in.
  • A whole house nearly always has the spare bedroom a live-in carer needs.

Tell us how your parent lives. Palmers Green has a long-established Greek Cypriot community, and its bakeries, churches and cafés give Green Lanes much of its character. If your mother prefers to speak Greek, keeps the Orthodox fasts or goes to church every Sunday, put it in the care plan from the first day. We will tell you honestly what we can and cannot match. Getting her to the liturgy, or to her usual shops on Green Lanes, is ordinary companionship work.

Broomfield Park, on the doorstep

Broomfield Park, off Aldermans Hill, is the obvious outing. It has ponds and gardens, and the conservatory has reopened after refurbishment. Broomfield House, the old manor house at its centre, is still a burnt-out shell after its fires. A slow walk round the ponds with a carer counts as care, especially for someone living with dementia, for whom a familiar route matters.

Does Enfield Council pay for care in Palmers Green?

It may contribute after two assessments. First, Enfield Adult Social Care assesses needs. Call the Single Point of Access on 020 8379 1001 or start online through the gov.uk needs assessment page. Second, a means test decides how much the person pays. Any council funding can be paid as a direct payment, so you choose the provider. We give our own quote in writing after our free assessment. Our Enfield home care page covers funding, Continuing Healthcare and the hospitals in more detail.

Short breaks for the family carer

If you look after a parent or partner in N13, ask Enfield Carers Centre for a carer's assessment (020 8366 3677). It carries these out on the council's behalf, and the assessment can lead to a carers' direct payment. The centre also runs Connections, its own adult day care. A live-in carer from us can provide respite for a week or two while you take a break, and a sit-in covers an afternoon or an evening.

What a carer can do in Palmers Green

Palmers Green FAQs

Palmers Green questions

Questions families ask us about Palmers Green. If yours is not here, ask us directly.

Ask a question
Mum lives in the top half of a converted house with one bedroom. Can she have live-in care?

Not in a one-bedroom flat, because a live-in carer needs a private bedroom of their own. The options are visits, if we can staff them, or live-in care for a short period somewhere with a spare room. We will go through what is realistic at the assessment.

Which hospital would Dad be discharged from?

For most of Palmers Green, North Middlesex University Hospital in Edmonton, which the W6 bus reaches directly. Some patients go to Barnet Hospital. Whichever it is, call us while the ward is still planning the discharge.

Could a carer take my father to church and to the shops on Green Lanes?

Yes, if it is written into his care plan. Escorting someone to a regular service, a café or the shops is part of companionship care, and we plan the visit times around it.

We live by Bowes Park station. Is that covered?

Yes. We cover all of N13 and the Bowes Park edge of N22. If your council tax goes to Haringey, the council route is Haringey's and not Enfield's, but our care is the same.
