Home Care in White City, W12

Live-in care, and home visits where a carer can reach you, on the White City Estate, around Television Centre and Wood Lane, and along Du Cane Road by Wormwood Scrubs.

Yes, we provide home care in White City, and live-in care is the service we can offer most dependably here. White City is at the far end of the borough from our Lewisham office, more than an hour each way, so we only agree regular visits when we know we can staff them. Every package begins with a free home assessment by Jackie, our registered manager.

Living on the White City Estate

The White City Estate was built between the 1930s and 1950s, between Wood Lane and Wormwood Scrubs, and it is still the area's largest group of homes. Many blocks are walk-ups, and some have no lift at all. That one fact shapes care more than anything else here.

A carer can come up the stairs, but the person being cared for may not be able to get down them. On a second or third floor without a lift, a hospital bed, a hoist or a wheelchair means planning how it gets up, and whether the person can still get out at all. Someone in that position can end up hardly leaving home. If that is happening, ask the council's assessment to look at it, including whether a move to a ground-floor or lift-served home should be raised with the landlord.

The newer high-rise flats around Television Centre and Wood Lane are the opposite case: lifts, level floors and wide doors, but usually a concierge or entry system that needs to know your carers.

Next door to Hammersmith Hospital

Hammersmith Hospital and Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea Hospital share a site on Du Cane Road, on the White City and East Acton edge. Hammersmith is a specialist centre for kidney and transplant care, cancer and heart attacks. It doesn't have a general A&E, so emergencies usually go to Charing Cross. For outpatient trips, Imperial lists the 7, 70, 72 and 272 buses from Du Cane Road, with the 72 and 272 also running from White City station. East Acton station is the nearest on the Central line. A carer can come with someone to appointments as part of a companionship visit.

The council's community and hospital assessment service for Hammersmith and Charing Cross hospitals is on 020 3311 1844. If someone is coming home after treatment, call us as soon as a discharge date is likely: see hospital discharge support.

Local GP hub. Parkview Practice at Cranston Court, 56 Bloemfontein Road W12, is one of three council-listed hubs offering GP appointments in the evening and at weekends. Book through your own practice or by calling 111. The White City Community Centre on India Way hosts local groups and activities, so it is worth checking for something nearby to go to.

How do I arrange home care in White City through the council?

Phone Hammersmith & Fulham Adult Social Care free on 0800 145 6095, or use the online contact form, and ask for a Care Act assessment. If you're eligible, the council arranges home care and doesn't charge for it. Ask for an occupational therapist too if stairs or bathing are the problem. If the council agrees ongoing care, you can take a direct payment to choose the provider. Our Hammersmith and Fulham page covers the route in full. If you employ us directly, we give a written quote after our assessment.

Why live-in care often works better here

With a live-in carer, the journey from south-east London stops mattering, because the carer lives in. They need their own bedroom, which rules out many one-bedroom estate flats but not the larger family flats and houses. For a couple, one live-in carer can support both partners.

If you care for someone yourself and need a break, ask Adult Social Care for a carer's assessment, or contact Carers Network on 020 8960 3033. A live-in carer can cover a holiday or a fortnight's rest: see respite care.

White City FAQs

White City questions

Questions families ask us about White City. If yours is not here, ask us directly.

Ask a question
Grandad is on the third floor of a block with no lift and hasn't been out in months. Can a carer help?

A carer can make life at home better, but getting him downstairs safely needs an assessment of its own. Ask Adult Social Care for an occupational therapy assessment, and ask his landlord about a move to a home with a lift. We can raise it with you at our assessment too.

Mum has dialysis at Hammersmith Hospital. Can a carer fit around her sessions?

Yes. Give us her session days and times, and we plan visits around them, for example help getting ready beforehand and a calmer evening visit afterwards when she is tired. Ask the renal unit about hospital transport, which we don't arrange.

Can you send a carer to a flat near Television Centre every morning?

Possibly, but it depends on staffing. White City is more than an hour from our office, so we only agree a daily morning visit when we have a carer who can do it reliably. If we can't, we will say so, and talk about live-in care.

Is East Acton part of your White City cover?

The Hammersmith & Fulham side of Du Cane Road is. East Acton beyond it falls partly in Ealing, which we also cover, so give us the full address and postcode when you call.
