Home Care in Norbiton, KT1 and KT2
Care at home for people living around London Road, Cambridge Road and Kingston Hospital, including help to settle back in after a stay on the wards.
Yes, we provide home care in Norbiton. Live-in care we can arrange anywhere in KT1 and KT2, and visiting care depends on whether we have a carer living close enough, so we check before we agree to anything. Every package starts with a free assessment at home by Jackie, our registered manager, and a written care plan.
Living next door to Kingston Hospital
Kingston Hospital sits on Galsworthy Road, a short walk from Norbiton station, and it is the borough's main acute hospital, with a 24-hour emergency department. Living this close, a family's first conversation about home care may well happen on a ward, with a discharge date already being discussed.
If that is where you are now, ask the ward team about the council's free reablement service. It gives short-term care at home with Your Healthcare, the borough's community health provider, and tapers off as the person gets their confidence back. For someone over 65 who lives alone, Staywell's Home from Hospital service (020 8942 8256) can help in the first weeks back. Ring us while discharge is still being planned, not on the day.
Getting to the hospital without a car. The K2, K3, K4 and K5 stop at Norbiton station, the 57 and 85 run along London Road past Norbiton Church, and the 57, 213, K2, K3 and K4 all call at the hospital itself. Parking at the hospital is very limited, so a carer going with someone to an appointment will usually go by bus or on foot.
Cambridge Road Estate: care while the homes are rebuilt
The Cambridge Road Estate is one of the largest council estates in the borough, and Kingston Council is rebuilding it in phases with its partner Countryside, with around 2,170 new homes planned, and families have begun moving into the first new council homes. Updates for residents are on the council's Cambridge Road Estate site.
A move can be hard on someone who already needs help. If a parent is due to move to a new flat, tell us at the assessment so we can plan the care around the move and keep the same carer where we can. Raise equipment needs, such as grab rails or a level-access shower, with the council early so they are considered for the new home.
Victorian terraces off London Road
Away from the estate, most of Norbiton is Victorian and Edwardian housing. Norbiton became a parish of its own in 1840, St Peter's Church was finished in 1842, and the terraces filled in over the decades that followed. Some terraces are still family houses; others have been split into flats with a shared staircase and no lift. There are also 1930s blocks such as the Norbiton Hall flats, and newer flats on infill sites.
In a narrow terrace the question is usually the stairs and the bathroom. If the bath is no longer safe, a carer can help with a wash at the basin while the council's occupational therapists look at rails, a bath seat or a stairlift.
How long does it take a carer to reach Norbiton from Lewisham?
Our office is on Lewisham High Street. From there it is a train to Waterloo and then South Western Railway to Norbiton via Wimbledon, roughly an hour and a quarter door to door. We have no office in Kingston, so we only agree visiting care here when a carer lives nearby and can arrive on time every day.
Live-in care
A live-in carer moves in and doesn't depend on the commute, so it is the option we can offer most reliably here. The carer needs their own bedroom, which rules out some one-bedroom flats, and their daily break is written into the plan.
Respite
If you are the one caring, a live-in carer can cover a week or two while you get away. Kingston Carers' Network carries out carer's assessments for the council, and our Kingston respite page explains the routes.

Norbiton families ask
Questions families ask us about Norbiton. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionMum is on a ward at Kingston Hospital now. When should we call you?
Now. Discharge planning moves quickly, and it helps to know early whether we can staff visits or whether a live-in carer is the realistic answer. If she has been offered reablement, we can plan to pick up when it ends so there is no gap.
Dad is moving to a new flat on the Cambridge Road Estate. Can his care move with him?
Yes. Tell us the likely moving date and we will update his care plan for the new layout. Moving day itself is a good time for extra help, and a carer can help him find his way around the new kitchen and bathroom.
Can a carer take my husband to his outpatient appointments?
Yes. Escorting someone to the hospital and waiting with them can be part of a visit or of a live-in carer's day. From most of Norbiton that is a walk or one bus.
Is Norbiton KT1 or KT2?
Both. Norbiton straddles the two postcode districts, and Kingston Hospital itself is KT2. We cover both, and the council route is the same.
