Home Care in Hanworth, TW13
Live-in care, respite for family carers and visiting care where we can staff it, for people living either side of the A316 in Hanworth and Hanworth Park.
Yes, we provide home care in Hanworth. A live-in carer can move in anywhere in TW13, and we can also cover short breaks for family carers; regular visits depend on having a carer who lives nearby, so we check before promising anything. Hanworth is also the part of Hounslow closest to our supported living home in Whitton, which gives families here one more option.
A district split by the A316
In the 1970s the elevated M3 feeder road, now part of the A316, was driven through Hanworth and cut it in two. The road still shapes everyday life on both sides of it.
Hanworth's local shops are on Hampton Road West, and its oldest building is St George's church on Castle Way, first recorded in 1293. Most of the housing came much later. Part of it went up on farmland that William Whiteley once worked to supply his department store's food hall, sold for housing in 1933. At the 2011 census, flats were the most common home in Hanworth ward and semi-detached houses in Hanworth Park ward, with plenty of terraces and council-built estates in both.
For a carer, that translates into flats where the front door may be up a flight of stairs with no lift, and semis with a spare room upstairs. Crossing the A316 on foot is not something to ask of someone unsteady, so if a regular outing is on the other side, the plan needs to say how they will get there.
Hanworth Park is the local outing. The former London Air Park aerodrome is now open grass with Hanworth Park House, an 1830s mansion that stands derelict while local campaigners push for its restoration. Hanworth Air Park Leisure Centre and Library sits on the park's edge. A walk round with a carer, or a library visit, is exactly what companionship care is for.
Can I get respite care in Hanworth while I look after my husband?
Yes, through several routes, and you can use more than one.
- The council's Short Breaks service. After a carer's assessment, Hounslow Council can arrange for a paid support worker to look after your husband at home while you take time off. The service is delivered for the council by Harlington Care; see the council's short breaks page.
- A day centre. Homelink Day Respite Centre is a charity in neighbouring Whitton that offers day respite for older people and their carers, and it is listed on Hounslow Council's day centres page.
- A live-in carer from us. We can arrange a carer to move in for a planned break, so your husband stays in his own home while you go away. See respite care in Hounslow.
- A short stay in Whitton. Our Whitton home, just across the River Crane, takes respite stays as well as permanent residents, subject to the right fit.
If something goes wrong with you, the council's emergency help for carers page explains the carers' emergency card and emergency short breaks.
Live-in care in Hanworth
For most Hanworth families who need daily care, live-in care is what we can offer most reliably. The carer needs a bedroom of their own and their breaks are written into the care plan. For couples, one carer can give personal care to one partner and lighter help to the other, which keeps them together at home. It also covers end-of-life care alongside the district nurses.
Visiting care, travel and parking
Hanworth has no tube. The nearest rail stations are Feltham, on its northern edge, and Hampton and Kempton Park to the south-west, and buses including the 111, 285, 290, 490 and H25 link it with Hounslow, Feltham, Twickenham and Kingston. From our Lewisham office that is a long journey, around 75 to 90 minutes, so visits work only where we have a carer living close by. Most streets have unrestricted parking, which helps if they drive.
Hounslow Council, hospital and funding
Hanworth is in Hounslow for social care. Start with the First Contact Team on 020 8583 3100 or the council's request support page. We quote for private care in writing after a free assessment and publish no prices.

Asked about Hanworth
Questions families ask us about Hanworth. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionHow far is your Whitton home from Hanworth?
Whitton is just across the River Crane, in Richmond upon Thames, and a short drive from most of Hanworth. That makes visiting easy if a family member moves there for a respite stay or longer. Our Whitton page has the details.
We live on the Hanworth Park side of the A316 and the shops are on the other. Can a carer take Mum shopping?
Yes. Shopping and appointments can be part of a visit or of a live-in carer's day. We agree the route and how she will travel, whether walking, bus or car, at the assessment.
Does the council's Short Breaks service replace a private respite carer?
Not necessarily. The council's service follows a carer's assessment and covers what that assessment agrees. Some carers use it for regular hours off and arrange a longer private break, such as a live-in carer for a week, on top.
Is Hanworth in Feltham?
Hanworth shares the TW13 postcode with Feltham and joined Feltham Urban District in 1932, but it is its own district between Feltham, Twickenham and Sunbury. We have a separate Feltham page.
