Home Care in Osterley
Live-in care and visiting care for the 1930s semis either side of the Great West Road, between Osterley tube station and the edge of Osterley Park.
Yes, we provide home care in Osterley. The houses here suit live-in care unusually well, and that is the service we can always arrange; visiting care is possible where we have a carer free nearby, since our office is in Lewisham, about 75 to 90 minutes away. A free home assessment comes first, usually with Jackie, our registered manager, and then a written care plan.
A 1930s suburb built around a tube station
Most of Osterley was built in the 1930s along the Great West Road, the A4, as the Underground reached this far west. Osterley station, the art deco building designed by Stanley Heaps that opened in 1934, still marks the middle of it, with a small parade of shops nearby. The roads around it, off Thornbury Road and either side of the A4, are wide and lined with interwar semi-detached and detached houses, with a few low-rise flats. Wide streets and room to park make it one of the more straightforward parts of the borough for a visiting carer who drives.
How often can a carer visit in Osterley?
Only if we have a carer living within reach, and we will check that for your road before anything is agreed. When we can, a pattern built round longer visits works best, for example a morning call for personal care and breakfast, and a teatime visit for meals and medication. The M4 and Great West Road make road access easy, but nobody should promise four short calls a day from south-east London. If that is what is needed, live-in care is usually the better fit.
Bringing the essentials downstairs
In many Osterley semis the bedrooms and the only bathroom are at the top of the stairs. That is the point where care at home starts to get hard. The good news is that these houses have room to adapt: a front room can become a bedroom, a downstairs toilet can often be extended into a shower room, and a straight staircase usually takes a stairlift. Larger adaptations go through a council occupational therapist, and we can plan care around the work while it happens.
Osterley Park on the doorstep. The National Trust's Osterley Park and House is a few minutes from most of these streets, with paths around the lakes. A slow walk there with a carer is a proper outing, and it can go into the care plan as companionship time.
Live-in care with a spare room to give
Because many Osterley houses have a spare bedroom, live-in care is easy to set up here. The carer lives in, takes daily breaks, and one carer can support a couple where only one partner needs full care. For people with advancing dementia, having the same person in the house each day often settles things more than a stream of visitors.
Short breaks for the family
If you care for a husband, wife or parent, ask Hounslow Council for a carer's assessment. It is the route into the council's Short Breaks service. We can also provide respite care at home for a week or two, and our Whitton home, a short drive south, takes short stays when it has space.
Hospital, GP and the council
West Middlesex University Hospital in Isleworth is about ten minutes by car and is where most Osterley residents are treated and discharged from. For care funding, Hounslow Council's Adult Social Care First Contact Team (020 8583 3100) handles new enquiries, or start online from the council's request support page. Our Hounslow home care page explains the borough route, direct payments and paying for care. Paying privately, you get a written quote after the assessment.

Osterley questions
Questions families ask us about Osterley. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionOur semi backs onto the Great West Road. Will traffic noise bother a live-in carer?
It's worth mentioning at the assessment. A back bedroom away from the road usually solves it, and we match carers with the home in mind.
Dad wants to turn the dining room into his bedroom. Can you help with that?
We can plan care around the move and advise on layout, such as space beside the bed for a carer or a hoist. Equipment such as a profiling bed usually comes through the council or the NHS after an assessment.
Is Osterley covered by the same council as Isleworth?
Yes. Osterley shares the TW7 postcode and Hounslow Council with Isleworth, so you contact the same First Contact Team and Carers Service, and West Middlesex in Isleworth is your local hospital too.
Can a carer drive Mum to her appointments?
Escorting her to appointments, by taxi, bus or on foot, can be part of the plan. Ask us at the assessment about transport, as it depends on the carer and the insurance in place.
Do you offer end-of-life care in Osterley?
Yes. Palliative care at home works alongside the GP and community nurses, and in many Osterley houses there is room for a live-in carer to be there day to day.
