Home Care in West Ealing, W13

Visiting and live-in carers along the Uxbridge Road and the side streets of W13, from Drayton Green down towards Northfields.

Yes, we can provide home care in West Ealing. Live-in care can be arranged wherever there is a spare bedroom. Visiting care is possible when we have carers available for the times you need, and West Ealing is one of the easier parts of the borough for us to reach. We start with a free assessment at home and agree a written care plan before any care begins.

Split Edwardian houses and shared stairs

West Ealing is the stretch of Uxbridge Road west of Ealing Broadway, with its own high street, and the streets behind it are mostly Edwardian terraces. Many of the larger houses have been divided into flats, so an older person in W13 may well live on the first or second floor with no lift and a narrow shared staircase. Some streets are named after apple varieties, a reminder that this was orchard and market-garden land in the 19th century. There are also council estates, including Green Man Lane, which is being regenerated, and newer flats near the station.

A converted flat changes the care plan. Hoists and wheelchairs are hard to use on narrow landings, a bath with no shower makes washing harder, and if getting downstairs takes a carer's arm, outings need planning. We look at all of this at the assessment. We may suggest asking the council's occupational therapists about rails or a bath board before the first personal care visit.

Parking a carer in West Ealing's zones

Controlled parking zones cover much of W13, including the West Ealing and Ealing Dean zones, so a carer who drives cannot just leave the car outside. Ealing Council issues a personal carers parking permit for someone who regularly visits a resident living in a zone. It allows parking in residential permit bays for up to three hours, and the application needs a GP declaration letter showing that the resident needs care. Zone boundaries and hours are on the council's controlled parking zone page. Many carers here come by train or bus instead: West Ealing station has step-free access to the Elizabeth line, and the 207, 427, 483, E3, E8 and Superloop SL8 run through the area.

Saturday mornings. West Ealing's farmers' market runs on Leeland Road on Saturdays from 9am to 1pm. For someone who has always done their own shopping, a carer walking alongside, carrying the bags and setting the pace, can keep that habit going. That kind of help is what companionship and home help visits are for.

Which hospital will Mum come home from?

Usually Ealing Hospital, further west along the Uxbridge Road between Hanwell and Southall, which has the borough's 24-hour emergency department. Some people are treated at Hammersmith or Charing Cross instead. Ask the ward who is planning the discharge and when, and ring us early, not on the day she leaves, so we can tell you honestly whether we can cover the visits. If we can't, a live-in carer is often possible. Read more about our hospital discharge support.

How do I get a care assessment for someone in West Ealing?

Ring Ealing's Social Care Advice and Referral Centre on 020 8825 8000, or refer yourself online. There is a separate form if you are acting for someone else. The centre carries out an initial assessment and refers on for a full social care or occupational therapy assessment where needed. A financial assessment then decides what the person pays, and council funding can be taken as a direct payment to pay us. Private clients receive a written quote after our own assessment. Our Ealing home care page explains each step.

Live-in care and breaks for carers

If the flat has a second bedroom, live-in care gives someone support through the day and night without a stream of visits. For family carers, we can provide respite, from a few hours of sit-in to a fortnight's live-in cover. The council's dementia support listing includes the St Barnabas Church memory cafe on Pitshanger Lane, W5, on Thursday mornings, a short trip north for many W13 families.

West Ealing FAQs

West Ealing questions

Questions families ask us about West Ealing. If yours is not here, ask us directly.

Ask a question
Dad lives in a second-floor conversion off the Uxbridge Road. Can you still help?

Usually, yes. The stairs shape the plan more than whether care is possible at all. We will look at how he gets in and out, where he washes and what equipment might help, and we may suggest an occupational therapy assessment through the council.

Who applies for the carers parking permit?

The application is made for the resident who needs care, with a GP letter and the details of the visiting carer's vehicle. We will talk it through at the assessment if the house is inside a controlled zone.

Can a carer take my mother to the library on Melbourne Avenue?

Yes. Trips to the library, the market or the high street can all go into her care plan as part of a companionship visit.

Is West Ealing close enough for regular visits from you?

It is one of the better-connected parts of the borough, because the Elizabeth line runs straight through. It is still more than an hour from our Lewisham office, so we confirm who will do the calls before agreeing a visiting package.

Is there out-of-hours mental health support locally?

The council's Solace Centre in West Ealing is an out-of-hours mental health resource centre. In a crisis, call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option, or 999 in an emergency.
