Home Care in Alperton, HA0
Care at home along Ealing Road and the Grand Union Canal, from the older semis behind the high street to the new apartment blocks by the water.
Yes, we provide home care in Alperton. After a free assessment at home and a written care plan, we arrange a live-in carer, which we can do anywhere in Alperton, or visiting care where we have carers available for the hours you need. Alperton is a long journey from our Lewisham office, so for daily care live-in is usually the dependable choice.
Ealing Road, the canal and two kinds of home
Alperton was an industrial district along the Paddington Arm of the Grand Union Canal, and a lot of that land has been rebuilt as flats. The result is two very different kinds of home within a few streets of each other, and they call for different care plans.
The interwar semis and terraces off Ealing Road have gardens, stairs and usually three bedrooms. They suit live-in care well, because the carer can have their own room, and there is often space downstairs for a bedroom if climbing the stairs becomes unsafe.
The new apartment blocks near the station and along the canal have lifts and level access inside, which make bathing, hoisting and getting out of the flat much easier. The catch is space. The second bedroom in a new-build flat can be small, and some flats don't have one at all. If there is no room for a carer to sleep, live-in care isn't possible, and visits become the main option.
Ealing Road is part of the routine. It is Alperton's main shopping street, known for its South Asian shops, and home to the Shree Sanatan Hindu Mandir. If your grandmother has always done her own shopping there or goes to the mandir, a carer can go with her. If she keeps a vegetarian kitchen, the care plan should say how she likes her food made.
Can I use Brent direct payments for home care in Alperton?
Yes, if the council assesses that your relative has eligible needs. Start with a care needs assessment from Brent Adult Social Care on 020 8937 4300. After that, a financial assessment works out what your relative pays, as explained on Brent's paying for care page. If a personal budget is agreed, the social worker can refer you to the free Brent Direct Payment Service. It helps you set up a managed or non-managed account and pay a personal assistant or an agency. The council's direct payments page has the details. We can be paid from a direct payment like any agency. We quote in writing after our assessment, and NHS Continuing Healthcare may cover care where needs are mainly health needs. See our Brent home care page for the full council route.
Getting here, and hospitals nearby
Alperton station is on Ealing Road, just along from Bridgewater Road, on the Piccadilly line. It is a 1930s Charles Holden building and is not step-free. Route 245 ends at Alperton Sainsbury's. For a carer coming from Lewisham it means crossing London and changing onto the Piccadilly line, well over an hour each way. That's why we only promise visit times we know we can staff.
Northwick Park Hospital on Watford Road is the main A&E for this part of Brent and the usual place people are discharged from. Central Middlesex Hospital on Acton Lane in Park Royal, a short distance south-east, has an urgent care centre and planned operations, but not a full A&E. If your relative is about to be discharged from either, ring us early. Our hospital discharge support page explains what we can arrange.
Our nearest supported living home
Alperton is the part of Brent closest to our supported living home in Uxbridge, which is about 25 to 30 minutes away on the Piccadilly line, with no change. For a younger adult with a disability who wants to live more independently, or someone who needs a short respite stay away from home, it is worth knowing about. Details are on our supported living page.
Respite at home
For family carers, respite at home means a carer covering while you rest, work or go away, from a few hours of sit-in to a live-in carer for a fortnight. Brent Carers Centre runs carers' assessments for the council. Healthwatch Brent takes independent feedback on local health and care services, including ours.

Alperton: your questions
Questions families ask us about Alperton. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionMy mother lives in a one-bedroom canal-side flat. Can she have live-in care?
Not unless there is a separate room for the carer to sleep in. A sofa bed in the living room is not enough. In a one-bedroom flat, visiting care is the realistic option, and the lift usually makes visits easier.
Can a carer go with my grandmother to the shops on Ealing Road?
Yes. Escorted shopping is part of companionship and home help, as long as it is in her care plan and safe for her.
Is Alperton station accessible yet?
No. It is not step-free. For appointments, a bus or taxi is usually easier, and a carer can go too.
How far is your Uxbridge home from Alperton?
About 25 to 30 minutes on the Piccadilly line, with no change. Family can visit easily, which matters for anyone considering a supported living placement or a respite stay.
