Home Care in Northolt, UB5
Care at home in Ealing's north-western corner, from the old village around St Mary's church to the Racecourse estate and the semis north of the A40.
Yes, we provide home care in Northolt, and for most families here the dependable way is live-in care: a carer moves into the home, so the distance from our Lewisham office stops mattering. Visiting care is possible only where we have carers who can reach UB5 reliably, so we check that before agreeing anything. Every arrangement starts with a free assessment at home and a written care plan.
Can a Lewisham agency really send visiting carers to Northolt?
Sometimes, and we would sooner be straight about it. Northolt is the part of Ealing furthest from SE13. Across London by DLR, Elizabeth line and Central line, it is well over an hour each way, and visiting care means the same carer arriving several times a day, every day. That only works with a carer who lives nearby.
So when you ring about Northolt, we ask where the house is and what times you need, then check who could actually do the calls. If we can't staff them, we say so on that first call and talk about live-in care instead.
North and south of Western Avenue
The A40 splits Northolt in two, and the housing on each side is quite different. North of Western Avenue, most of the private housing went up in the 1920s and 1930s: semis and short terraces, usually with three bedrooms and a garden. Those homes suit live-in care well, because the carer needs a bedroom of their own, and there is often space for a bed or a shower downstairs if the stairs become unsafe.
South of the A40, most of the social housing dates from the 1960s and 1970s. The Racecourse estate is different again. It was built between 1951 and 1955 on the old Northolt Park pony racecourse, and the original gates still stand on Petts Hill. Low-rise flats and maisonettes here can mean a first-floor front door with no lift, which matters for anyone coming home from hospital on a frame. Tell us about the stairs and the entrance at the assessment, so the plan allows for them from day one.
Somewhere to walk to. Northala Fields, beside the A40, opened in 2008. Its four grassy hills were built from the rubble of the original Wembley Stadium, and the paths around the ponds are flat. A slow circuit with a carer is a real outing for someone who has stopped going out alone, and it can be written into a companionship routine.
Coming home from Hillingdon, Northwick Park or Ealing Hospital
Northolt sits between three acute hospitals. Hillingdon Hospital can be the nearest A&E for the western side, Northwick Park in Harrow is the trust's major acute site, where some Northolt patients are admitted or transferred, and Ealing Hospital on the Uxbridge Road is the borough's own general hospital. Ask the ward who is arranging care after discharge, and ring us as soon as a date is mentioned. Our hospital discharge support page explains what we can put in place.
Stations and buses
Northolt station, on Mandeville Road, is on the Central line in zone 5. Routes 90, 120, 140, 282, 395, E10 and the Superloop SL9 all serve it, and the E10 runs direct to Ealing Broadway. Northolt Park station has Chiltern Railways trains towards Marylebone.
Respite, and a home just up the road
If you look after someone in Northolt, a live-in carer can cover for a week or two while you rest or go away, and a sit-in carer can sometimes cover shorter gaps. Ealing Carers Hub supports anyone caring for an adult in the borough and can talk you through a carer's assessment. Our supported living home in Uxbridge is about 20 to 30 minutes by road. For a younger adult with a disability, or anyone who needs a short stay away from home, see supported living.
Starting with Ealing Council
Northolt borders Hillingdon and Harrow, but UB5 is Ealing, so council-funded care starts with Ealing adult social care on 020 8825 8000 or its online referral forms, whichever hospital the person was in. A council budget taken as a direct payment can pay for live-in care with us; private clients get a written quote after our assessment. The means test and direct payments are explained on our Ealing home care page.

Northolt: questions we're asked
Questions families ask us about Northolt. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionDad is on the Racecourse estate in a first-floor maisonette. Can he have live-in care?
Only if there is a spare bedroom for the carer. If his maisonette has a second bedroom, it can work well. We look at the room, the stairs and the bathroom at the assessment before recommending anything.
Mum was admitted to Hillingdon, not Ealing Hospital. Does that change anything?
Her care at home still comes through Ealing Council, because that is where she lives, even though Hillingdon is in another borough. Make sure the ward knows her home address is in Ealing, and call us early so we can plan around the discharge date.
Could a carer take my aunt up the hills at Northala Fields?
If it is safe for her, yes, though the flat paths round the ponds are usually the better choice. Outings like this go into the care plan so everyone knows what is expected.
How close is your Uxbridge home to Northolt?
About 20 to 30 minutes by road, which makes it the most practical of our three supported living homes for Northolt families who want to visit often. Placements are agreed with the person's Ealing social worker.
