Home Care in Perivale, UB6
Live-in and visiting care for the 1930s streets between Horsenden Hill and Western Avenue, from the Medway Estate to Bilton Road.
Yes, we provide home care in Perivale. Live-in care, where a carer lives in the home, works almost anywhere here because most houses have a spare bedroom. Visiting care depends on whether we have a carer who can reach UB6 for every call, so we check that before we agree to it. We start with a free home assessment, then write a care plan with you.
A semi with a spare room
Perivale is a small suburb between Greenford and Hanger Lane, and most of it was built in the 1930s along Western Avenue. The first houses went up around Horsenden Lane South and Bilton Road to the east; the Medway Estate, west of Horsenden Lane South, followed soon after and was laid out around the open ground that is now Ealing Central Sports Ground. Both areas are mostly semis and short terraces, with some purpose-built maisonettes, and most homes have a second or third bedroom.
That spare room is what makes live-in care possible. The carer has somewhere private to sleep and take their break, and the person they support stays in the house they know. A couple can share one live-in carer, even when only one of them needs personal care. In these houses the bathroom is usually upstairs, so it is worth asking Ealing Council for an occupational therapy assessment early, in case rails, a stairlift or a downstairs shower are needed.
Can a carer get to Perivale for daily visits?
Perivale is on the Central line, so it is easier to reach than Northolt or much of Greenford, but it is still a long way from our Lewisham office: more than an hour across London. We only agree to a visiting package when we know which carer will do it. Parking is one thing that helps. Most streets away from the station have free on-street parking, so a carer who drives can usually stop outside the house.
Getting about when the A40 is in the way
Western Avenue runs straight through Perivale, and the crossings shape how far someone can walk. Perivale station, a Grade II listed building on Horsenden Lane South, has Central line trains to White City and central London. The 297, which runs 24 hours, goes along Bilton Road, Horsenden Lane South and Argyle Road towards central Ealing one way and Alperton and Wembley the other. The E5 serves the Medway Estate and the Tesco in the old Hoover Building before going on through Greenford to Southall, and the 95 runs along the A40 towards Acton and Shepherd's Bush.
For someone using a stick or a frame, a carer on a companionship visit can make these trips possible again: the shopping at Tesco, an appointment, or a slow walk on the lower slopes of Horsenden Hill.
Perivale Wood is not a drop-in park. The nature reserve near Perivale station has been looked after by the Selborne Society since 1902, and visits are by booking only. If your mother loves the bluebells, plan the visit in advance and put it in the care plan. Don't expect to just turn up at the gate.
What does home care cost in Perivale, and will the council help?
We don't publish prices, because the cost depends on how many hours of care are needed and when. We give you a written figure after the assessment. If you want council help, ask Ealing adult social care for a needs assessment on 020 8825 8000. If the council agrees you have eligible needs, a financial assessment works out what you pay. Ealing's paying for your care page explains that people with savings and assets above £23,250 pay the full cost, and that reablement and equipment or adaptations up to £1,000 are not charged for. Council funding can be taken as a direct payment and used to pay us. If the main needs are health needs, ask about NHS Continuing Healthcare. Our Ealing home care page covers the rest of the council route.
Short breaks for the family
Age UK Ealing is based at Greenford Community Centre on Oldfield Lane South, a short bus ride west. It offers befriending and advice, and a day centre twice a week for people who manage their own personal care. For a longer break, a live-in carer can cover while you are away. Ealing also offers a carer's assessment, which looks at your own needs as a carer. See our respite care page for how short stays work.

Asked about Perivale
Questions families ask us about Perivale. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionMy parents' semi only has a box room spare. Is that enough for a live-in carer?
Often it is, if it fits a single bed, somewhere to store clothes and a window. We look at the room at the assessment and say honestly if it won't work.
Will a carer need a parking permit in Perivale?
Usually not away from the station, where most streets have free on-street parking. If the house is in a controlled zone, Ealing's personal carers permit is the route, and we will sort that out with you.
Mum gets the 297 to Ealing Broadway every week. Can a carer go with her?
Yes. Escorted trips on the bus can be part of a companionship visit, and we set the timing in the care plan around the trips she makes.
Which hospital will someone in Perivale be discharged from?
Usually Ealing Hospital or Northwick Park, both run by London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust. Ring us as soon as a discharge date is being discussed; see our hospital discharge support.
