Home Care in Sudbury, Wembley HA0

Live-in care and home care for families in Sudbury's interwar streets off Harrow Road, from Barham Park and Vale Farm out towards Sudbury Town station and the Ealing and Harrow borders.

Yes, we provide care at home in Sudbury, and here that usually means live-in care. Sudbury is at the far western edge of Brent, well over an hour from our Lewisham office, so a carer who lives in is the dependable option. We can sometimes arrange visits as well, but only when we have a carer free for your times. Either way, it starts with a free home assessment and a written care plan.

Why live-in care fits Sudbury so well

Sudbury was largely built up between the wars. The typical home is a semi or short terrace with a front and back garden, three bedrooms and a ground floor big enough to rearrange. There are some 1960s and 1970s flats too, but the houses dominate.

That housing is close to ideal for live-in care. There is usually a spare bedroom for the carer, a back room that can become a downstairs bedroom if the stairs get too much, and often space for a level-access shower or a stairlift.

The carer needs their own room and proper breaks each day. We plan how the breaks are covered with you before anyone moves in.

Visiting care: what is realistic

Visits are possible in Sudbury, but we're honest about them. For a carer coming from south-east London, Sudbury means crossing the whole of central London and changing onto the Piccadilly line. A visit at a fixed time every morning and evening is hard to guarantee at that distance. A longer weekly block, such as a few hours of sit-in or home help, is easier to staff than several short calls a day. Tell us what you need and we'll say straight away whether we can cover it.

Check which council you're in. Sudbury sits where Brent meets Harrow and Ealing. Most of it, with HA0 Wembley addresses, is in Brent, but the HA1 side towards Sudbury Hill is in Harrow. The council on your council tax bill is the one to ask for an assessment.

Around the neighbourhood

Sudbury runs along Harrow Road west of Wembley Central, which until 1882 was itself called Sudbury station. Barham Park, on Harrow Road, is the local green space for a short walk, and Vale Farm, with its swimming pool and sports pitches, is close by.

Sudbury Town station, on the Piccadilly line, is a Grade II* listed Charles Holden building from 1931. Sudbury & Harrow Road has Chiltern trains, and Sudbury Hill station is just over the border in Harrow. The 18 bus terminates at Sudbury, and the 92, 182, 245 and H17 also serve the area, the H17 linking Wembley Central with Harrow.

Coming home from Northwick Park

Northwick Park Hospital on Watford Road, run by London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, is the nearest A&E and the usual place Sudbury residents are discharged from. Age UK Hillingdon, Harrow and Brent provides hospital discharge support there. If your relative is on a ward, ring us early, because a live-in carer takes some planning. Our hospital discharge page explains more.

How much does home care in Sudbury cost, and will Brent pay?

We don't publish prices. We give a written quote after the assessment, because a live-in carer for a couple costs differently from a few hours of help each week. If you'd like the council to contribute, Brent's online self-assessment is a quick first step, or call Adult Social Care on 020 8937 4300 for a full needs assessment. After that comes a means-tested financial assessment. If the council funds part of the care, it can pay it as a direct payment that you use with an agency like ours. NHS Continuing Healthcare covers some people whose needs are mainly health needs. The wider picture is on our Brent home care page.

Respite for families

If you look after a parent in Sudbury, a live-in carer for a week or two of respite lets you go away knowing someone is in the house. Brent Carers Centre carries out carers' assessments for the council, which is the route to any council-funded break.

Sudbury FAQs

Sudbury FAQs

Questions families ask us about Sudbury. If yours is not here, ask us directly.

Ask a question
Is Sudbury too far for you?

Not for live-in care, because the carer lives in. Visiting care is harder at this distance, so we only agree visit times we know we can cover.

Our address says Harrow. Do we deal with Brent?

Not necessarily. An HA1 address may be in Harrow, and homes right on the Ealing border may come under Ealing. Check your council tax bill, because that council handles the needs assessment and any funding.

Mum and Dad both need some help. Do we need two carers?

Usually not. One live-in carer can support a couple, giving personal care to whoever needs it and practical help to the other. If both need two people to move them safely, we discuss that at the assessment.

Dad's bedroom is upstairs. Can we move him down?

In most Sudbury semis, yes. A back room often makes a good bedroom. We'll look at where the toilet is and whether the council's occupational therapist should assess for a commode, rails or a stairlift.

Can the carer take him to Barham Park?

Yes, if it's safe for him and agreed in the care plan. We'll match the length of the walk to how far he can manage and plan where to rest.
