Home Care in Harlesden
Care at home in NW10 around the Jubilee Clock, Craven Park Road, Manor Park Road and Stonebridge: live-in care, respite, and visits where we can staff them.
We provide home care in Harlesden. Live-in care can start anywhere in NW10 once we have assessed and found the right carer. Visiting care depends on carer availability, because Harlesden is around an hour or more from our Lewisham office. The first step is a free home assessment, after which you get a written care plan and a quote.
Around the Jubilee Clock
Harlesden's centre is small and dense. The clock on the High Street went up in 1888 for Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee, and the roads off it, Craven Park Road, Manor Park Road, Station Road and Church Road, carry the Caribbean bakeries, hair shops, record shops and churches the area is known for, alongside Somali, Portuguese and Brazilian businesses. Roundwood Park, on the Willesden side, is the main green space.
For someone who has lived here for decades, being able to get to the High Street, to church on Sunday or to a familiar bakery is part of staying well. A companionship visit can be built around exactly that, and we ask about it at the assessment.
Flats, stairs and Stonebridge
Much of Harlesden's housing is flats, many of them in tight Victorian terraces that were built as houses and split up later. In practice that means upper flats with steep shared or internal stairs, small bathrooms and rarely a spare bedroom. To the north, the Stonebridge estate was rebuilt and its homes are newer, though room sizes still vary.
These details shape what care is possible. A hoist needs floor space, a live-in carer needs their own room, and a wheelchair user on an upper floor of a conversion may need a rehousing conversation with Brent before care can work well. We will tell you honestly what we find.
Central Middlesex is close, but it isn't an A&E
Central Middlesex Hospital on Acton Lane, Park Royal, is the nearest hospital, and the 187 and 228 buses run to it from Harlesden. It has an urgent care centre and planned care, but no full A&E. A serious emergency goes to Northwick Park or to St Mary's in Paddington, so a relative could be discharged from any of the three. Whichever it is, call us while the discharge is being planned, not on the day; see hospital discharge support.
Two local projects for older people. Age UK Hillingdon, Harrow and Brent runs Enabling Connections, which helps people aged 50 and over in Harlesden rebuild confidence and reconnect with their community. Nearby in Kensal Green, Elders Voice at 181 Mortimer Road runs a wellbeing centre, day centres and activities for Brent residents aged 55 and over.
Does Brent Council pay for home care in Harlesden?
It may contribute after two assessments. First, Brent Adult Social Care looks at care needs; you can start with the online self-assessment or call 020 8937 4300. Then a means-tested financial assessment works out the person's contribution. Any council funding can be paid as a direct payment, with the free Brent Direct Payment Service helping to set it up. NHS Continuing Healthcare covers people whose needs are primarily health needs. Our quote follows our own assessment, and we do not list prices. See our Brent home care page for the full borough route.
Getting here from Lewisham
From SE13 a carer takes the train to London Bridge, the Jubilee line to Baker Street and the Bakerloo line out to Harlesden station, which is also on the Overground's Lioness line. Willesden Junction adds the Mildmay line. Buses through the centre include the 18, 187, 206, 224, 226, 228, 260 and 487. The journey takes roughly 60 to 70 minutes, which is why live-in care is often the more reliable choice here.
When visits aren't enough
A live-in carer moves in, so distance stops mattering. If there is no spare room, a mix of visits and family support may work, and we will plan it with you. Family carers can also have short breaks: a live-in carer for a week or two, arranged as respite care. Ask Brent Carers Centre about a carer's assessment, because Brent needs one before it arranges respite.

Harlesden questions
Questions families ask us about Harlesden. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionCan the carer take my mum to her church on Sunday?
Yes, if it is in the care plan. A live-in carer can go with her, and a visit can be timed around a service. Tell us at the assessment which church and how she usually gets there.
Dad is being discharged from Central Middlesex. Is that a different process?
Not really. The ward and the discharge team plan with you, and Brent Adult Social Care may be involved if he needs council-funded support. Let us know the expected date as early as you can so we can assess and plan.
Do you cover Stonebridge and Kensal Green?
Yes, on the same basis as Harlesden. Live-in care anywhere, and visits where we have a carer free for your times. Note that parts of Kensal Green lie over the border in Kensington and Chelsea, which would then be the council to contact.
Mum doesn't want strangers in her flat. How does it start?
Slowly, if she prefers. Jackie, our registered manager, or a senior member of the team visits for the assessment and talks with her first. Care can begin with a little companionship and build up as she gets to know the carer.
