Home Care in Dollis Hill, NW2 and NW10

Visiting care, live-in care and respite for older and disabled people in the streets around Gladstone Park, from Dollis Hill Lane down to the station on Hamilton Road.

Yes, we can arrange home care in Dollis Hill. Because the area sits on the Jubilee line, it is one of the parts of Brent where a visiting package from our Lewisham office can sometimes work, depending on which carers are free for the route; live-in care, where the carer moves in, is available regardless. Every arrangement starts with a free home assessment and a written care plan.

Two sides of Gladstone Park

Dollis Hill is the streets wrapped around Gladstone Park, and the park splits it in two. South of the park, in NW10, the Edwardian terraces between the park and the station were laid out as a grid with names running in alphabetical order, from Aberdeen Road through to Normanby Road. To the north and east, in NW2, Dollis Hill Lane runs along the top of the park and interwar semi-detached houses take over.

Off Brook Road, the old Post Office Research Station, where the Colossus code-breaking computer was built, is now the Chartwell Court flats.

What the houses mean for day-to-day care

Many of the NW10 terraces have been split into upstairs and downstairs flats. In an upper flat, the staircase is the first thing we look at: whether your relative can manage it with a carer alongside, whether a stairlift will fit, and whether the bathroom takes a shower seat. A hoist rarely fits a converted upper flat.

The interwar semis on the NW2 side tend to be easier, with a through-lounge that can take a profiling bed and a third bedroom or box room, which matters if live-in care is on the table.

The park is a good reason to get out, but it is a hill. Gladstone Park sits on a hill, and on a clear day the top looks out over central London and across to Wembley. The walled garden near the footprint of the old Dollis Hill House, where Gladstone visited and Mark Twain spent the summer of 1900, makes a pleasant goal for a companionship visit. Some slopes are steep for a wheelchair or rollator, so we plan the route.

Can a carer get to Dollis Hill from Lewisham?

Sometimes, and we will be honest about it. The route is a train or DLR to London Bridge or Canary Wharf and then the Jubilee line out past Willesden Green to Dollis Hill station on Hamilton Road, NW10, close to an hour door to door. Bus route 226 stops by the station. We have no office or team in Brent, so regular visits depend on who is available for that journey. Call us and we will tell you plainly.

Health services close to Dollis Hill

St Georges Medical Centre is on Dollis Hill Lane (Park Hill House, NW2 6JH). The Willesden Centre for Health and Care on Robson Avenue, NW10, has community NHS clinics. For emergencies, most of Brent goes to Northwick Park Hospital, so that is the most likely place a discharge will come from. If your relative is in hospital, tell us the expected discharge date early; see hospital discharge support.

For company and activity nearby, Ashford Place on Ashford Road in Cricklewood, NW2, runs dementia projects and activities for older Brent residents.

How do I ask Brent Council for a care assessment in Dollis Hill?

Dollis Hill is in Brent on both sides of the park, so Brent Council's Adult Social Care team handles assessments. You can call 020 8937 4300 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm), ask a GP or hospital team to refer, or start with the council's care needs assessment page and its online self-assessment. A separate means test decides whether the council pays towards care, and a personal budget can be taken as a direct payment and used with us. We do not publish prices; we quote in writing after our own free assessment. Our Brent home care page covers the borough-wide route.

Live-in care in an NW2 semi

For someone who needs help through the day and someone in the house at night, live-in care is the steadiest option, and distance from Lewisham stops mattering once the carer has moved in. The carer needs their own bedroom, which the 1930s semis usually have.

A break for the family carer

If you do the caring, ask for a carer's assessment. In Brent it starts online and passes to Brent Carers Centre; council-arranged respite depends on it. We can cover a planned break with a short live-in stay or a run of visits; see respite care.

Dollis Hill FAQs

Dollis Hill questions

Questions families ask us about Dollis Hill. If yours is not here, ask us directly.

Ask a question
Mum lives on one of the alphabet streets near the station. Can a carer help her with the stairs?

Yes, if she can still manage them safely with someone beside her. We check the staircase, handrails and bathroom at the assessment, and will tell you if an occupational therapy assessment from Brent should come first.

Is NW2 or NW10 a different council?

Not in Dollis Hill. Both postcodes here are in Brent, so the same Adult Social Care team covers them. Cricklewood, just to the east, is partly in Barnet, so check the council tax bill if you are near the edge.

Dad has dementia and still loves walking in Gladstone Park. Can a carer take him?

Yes. Walks can go into his care plan, with a route that suits how steady he is and a plan if he becomes unsettled. See our dementia care page.

Would one live-in carer be enough for both my parents in their semi?

Often, yes, provided the carer has a bedroom of their own and gets proper breaks.

Are visits more likely here than in Kingsbury or Wembley?

Somewhat, because Dollis Hill is on the Jubilee line and a carer from Lewisham does not have to change again after London Bridge or Canary Wharf. It is still close to an hour each way, so we only agree visit times once we know a carer is free for them.
