Home Care in New Malden, KT3

Care at home in the semis and short terraces around New Malden High Street, the Fountain roundabout and the station, planned around day-centre days, family routines and the food people actually eat.

Yes, we arrange home care in New Malden. Live-in care we can set up anywhere in KT3. Visiting care depends on whether we have a carer able to reach New Malden at the times you need, so ring and we will check before promising anything. Every arrangement starts with a free home assessment from Jackie, our registered manager, and a written care plan.

Care that fits a Korean household

New Malden has one of the largest Korean communities in Europe, and you can see it along the High Street in the restaurants, supermarkets and churches. For an older Korean resident, good care often comes down to small things: the right food cooked the way they like it, a carer who understands how the family shares the caring, and being able to communicate clearly, especially as dementia or hearing loss makes conversation harder.

We can't promise a Korean-speaking carer and we won't claim to have one. What we do at the assessment is ask about language, diet, faith and family routines, and then tell you honestly whether we can match them. If a shared language isn't possible, we talk through what will help: family members writing down key phrases, picture cards, and a care plan that records how the person likes things done.

Raleigh House and the days in between

Staywell, Kingston's older people's charity, runs Raleigh House in New Malden, a day centre for over-65s that welcomes people living with dementia. It is open Monday to Friday, 10am to 3pm, with a two-course lunch, a hairdresser, a podiatry clinic, an accessible shower room and a sheltered garden. Staywell's minibus can collect members from anywhere in the borough for an extra charge, if there is space.

Home care and a day centre work well together. On centre days a carer can help with getting up, washing, dressing and breakfast so the person is ready for the minibus, then settle them back in the evening. On the other days, longer visits or companionship fill the gap, and the family carer gets a real break while the person is at the centre.

Homes with a spare room

Most of New Malden is 1920s and 1930s semis and short terraces with gardens, with some Victorian streets near the station and newer flats along the High Street. A typical three-bedroom semi suits live-in care, because the carer needs a bedroom of their own and there usually is one. Many have stairs that can take a stairlift, which we check at the assessment, and a downstairs room can be turned into a bedroom if the stairs become too much.

How do I get help from Kingston Council for a parent in New Malden?

New Malden is in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, so you go through Kingston's Adult Social Care. The council suggests checking the assessment process and eligibility first and then using its online request form, or you can phone 020 8547 5005. A Raleigh House place is arranged directly with Staywell. If you are the main family carer, ask for a carer's assessment as well. For costs and direct payments, see our Kingston home care page.

Trains, buses and Kingston Hospital

New Malden station has South Western Railway trains to Waterloo via Wimbledon. The 213 stops at the station, on the High Street and at the Fountain roundabout, then runs to Kingston Hospital, which is useful for appointments and for visiting someone on a ward. The K1 links the station and the High Street with Malden Manor, Tolworth and Surbiton. Away from the High Street most roads have no parking controls, which makes visits easier.

Respite in New Malden

For a family carer, a regular Raleigh House day is one kind of break. For longer, such as a holiday or a stay in hospital yourself, we can provide a live-in carer for a week or two, or extra visits. See respite care.

New Malden FAQs

What New Malden families ask us

Questions families ask us about New Malden. If yours is not here, ask us directly.

Ask a question
My grandmother only eats Korean food. Can a carer cook for her?

A carer can prepare meals to her preferences, and the care plan will record what she eats and how she likes it. Tell us the dishes she relies on. A family member can show the carer the first few times, and a carer can go with her to the shops on the High Street for the ingredients.

Can you get Dad ready for the Raleigh House minibus?

If we can staff morning visits at your address, yes. We set the visit around the time the minibus collects him, so he is washed, dressed and has had breakfast. The minibus place itself is booked with Staywell.

Our parents' semi is near Malden Manor. Is that still New Malden for you?

We cover it either way. Malden Manor, Old Malden and the Motspur Park side are all within our Kingston area. The K1 bus and the Chessington branch railway both serve Malden Manor.

Mum goes to a Korean church on Sundays. Can care fit around it?

Yes. Tell us at the assessment about services, fellowship groups or anything else she goes to, and we write them into the care plan. A live-in carer can go with her, and with visiting care we time the visits around her week where we can staff them.
