Home Care in Old Malden, KT4 and KT3
Care at home around Plough Green, Malden Road and the Hogsmill, from Malden Manor down to the Worcester Park edge of the borough.
Yes, we provide home care in Old Malden. We can arrange a live-in carer in any Old Malden home, and visiting care where we have a carer living near enough to come reliably, which we confirm before taking it on. It starts with a free assessment at home with Jackie, our registered manager, and a written care plan you keep.
Kingston or Sutton? Check before you contact the council
Old Malden sits along Malden Road between New Malden and Worcester Park, right on the borough boundary. Old Malden itself is in the Royal Borough of Kingston, but Worcester Park is split between Kingston and the London Borough of Sutton, and a KT4 postcode doesn't tell you which side you are on. The quickest check is the council tax bill. If it comes from Kingston, Kingston's Adult Social Care handles care needs assessments; if it comes from Sutton, contact Sutton Council instead. We can provide care on either side.
Plough Green, St John's and the painters' roads
Old Malden is much older than its neighbour. The parish is in the Domesday Book, and St John the Baptist church, Grade II listed and partly rebuilt in brick in 1611, stands near the Hogsmill next to the old Manor House. The village green, Plough Green, has The Plough pub, Plough Pond and a short parade of shops, and the area around it has been a conservation area since 1971.
Most homes, though, are 20th-century: interwar semis and detached houses with gardens, including a group of streets named after painters, starting with Millais Road (Millais painted the background of Ophelia on the Hogsmill here). Around the green there are some 19th-century cottages. The suburban houses are generally straightforward for care, with room for a stairlift or a bed downstairs. An old cottage can be trickier, with narrow stairs and a small bathroom, and we look at that carefully at the assessment.
What does a live-in carer need in an Old Malden house?
Three things: a bedroom of their own, somewhere to keep food and belongings, and a daily break that someone covers if your relative can't be left. Most Old Malden semis and detached houses have the spare room. Because a live-in carer lives in, the distance from our Lewisham office makes no difference, which is why it is the service we can offer most reliably here.
A day centre up the road. Staywell's Raleigh House is in neighbouring New Malden, and its minibus can collect from Old Malden at extra cost if there is space. Our New Malden page has the details.
Trains, buses and parking
Malden Manor station, built in 1938, is on the Chessington branch of South Western Railway, and Worcester Park station is at the southern end. Both have direct trains to Waterloo. Buses are thinner on the ground: the 213 stops at Plough Green and runs to Kingston Hospital in one direction and Sutton in the other, the K1 calls at Malden Manor station on its way between New Malden, Tolworth and Surbiton, and the S3 starts there for Worcester Park and Sutton.
From Lewisham that is two trains and well over an hour each way, so regular visits depend on carer availability.
GP and hospital
Kingston Hospital is the usual acute hospital for Old Malden, and the 213 runs there directly. Because the area borders Sutton, some people are treated at St Helier or Epsom instead. Whichever hospital it is, ask the ward about Kingston Council's free reablement before discharge.
Respite for a husband, wife or daughter who cares
A carer's assessment comes through Kingston Carers' Network on 020 3031 2757. Alongside the council's own short breaks, we can provide a live-in carer for a week or two while you go away. Local dementia-friendly groups are listed on Connected Kingston. See our Kingston respite page.
Getting a council assessment
For Kingston residents, request a care needs assessment with the council's online form, by calling 020 8547 5005 or by emailing adults@kingston.gov.uk. A financial assessment follows. Our Kingston home care page explains the means test and direct payments. For private care, we give a written quote after the assessment.

Old Malden questions
Questions families ask us about Old Malden. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionOur address says Worcester Park. Are we in Kingston or Sutton?
Look at the council tax bill. Worcester Park is split between the two boroughs, and social care comes from whichever council you pay. We can provide care in either.
Mum's cottage near Plough Green has very steep stairs. Can she still have care at home?
Often, yes, but the plan may need to move her bedroom downstairs or bring in an occupational therapist to look at rails or a stairlift. A stairlift is not always possible on narrow, winding stairs, and we will say if we think the stairs are no longer safe.
Can a carer take Dad to Raleigh House?
A carer can get him up, dressed and ready for Staywell's minibus, or go with him by bus or taxi. Places and the minibus are arranged with Staywell directly.
We live by Malden Manor station. Is that Old Malden or New Malden to you?
It makes no difference to the care: both are in Kingston and we cover both. Our New Malden page covers the High Street side.
