Home Care in Worcester Park (KT4)

Home care and live-in care for Worcester Park households on the Sutton side of KT4, from Central Road and the station to Longfellow Road and the streets south towards Cheam.

Yes, we can arrange home care in Worcester Park. A live-in carer can move in anywhere in KT4; visiting care depends on having a carer available near enough, which we confirm with you before agreeing to it. Care starts with a free assessment at home.

Which council covers a Worcester Park address?

This is the first thing to check, because Worcester Park is split. Much of it is in the London Borough of Sutton, but part lies in Epsom and Ewell, in Surrey, and the KT4 Worcester Park postal area also reaches into Old Malden in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. The station itself sits on the Kingston boundary. The council that sends the council tax bill is the one that does the care assessment. If you are not sure, the government's find your local council tool works from a postcode.

  • Sutton addresses: follow the steps further down this page.
  • Kingston addresses: see our home care in Kingston upon Thames page.
  • Surrey addresses: adult social care is run by Surrey County Council, not by Epsom and Ewell. We can still talk to you about private care and live-in care.

A 1920s and 30s suburb

Worcester Park was mostly fields until the railway arrived. Most of the houses went up in the 1920s and 1930s: semis and short terraces with front gardens, though some streets near the station, such as The Avenue, are older. The south of the district was built up later, in the 1960s, after the Worcester Park brickworks closed, and newer flats have appeared along Central Road.

A typical semi here works well for care at home. There is usually a third bedroom, small though it may be, that a live-in carer can use, and a straight staircase that will take a stairlift. The weak point is often the bathroom: a bath with a shower over it is hard to use once standing and stepping become difficult. Sutton Council's occupational therapists can advise on equipment and adaptations, and a carer can help with strip washes and safe transfers in the meantime.

Getting around: Waterloo trains, the 213 and the S3

Unlike the rest of the borough's stations, Worcester Park is served by South Western Railway, with trains to London Waterloo. It is also well placed for the borough's services by bus:

  • The 213 runs from Worcester Park station through North Cheam and Cheam to Sutton, stopping at Sutton Civic Centre, where Sutton Adult Social Care is based. In the other direction it goes to Kingston.
  • The S3 links Worcester Park with Sutton station and continues to the Royal Marsden on Downs Road and Belmont. For someone having treatment at the Royal Marsden, that is a direct ride a carer can make with them.
  • The 151 goes through North Cheam, Cheam and Sutton to Wallington.

For carers who drive, parking is mostly unrestricted, but Sutton's Longfellow controlled parking zone is in Worcester Park. Check a street with the council's parking checker before visits start. From our Lewisham office the journey is long, through central London and out again, which is why we raise live-in care early in any Worcester Park conversation.

How do I arrange home care in Worcester Park through Sutton Council?

  1. Complete the online care needs checklist on Sutton's needs assessment page, or phone 020 8770 5000, weekdays 9am to 5pm.
  2. The council aims to get in touch within 10 working days, and the assessment, usually in person, can take up to six weeks.
  3. If the person is eligible, a care plan is agreed and a financial assessment follows. People with savings over £23,250 usually pay the full cost.
  4. Funded care can be arranged by the council, or taken as a direct payment so you can choose the agency.

If you are paying privately, call us directly: we assess for free and quote in writing. The wider borough picture is on our home care in Sutton page.

Our Kingston home is close. Worcester Park is the part of Sutton nearest to our supported living home in Kingston upon Thames, which can take people for respite stays as well as longer placements. The 213 bus runs between the two areas. See supported living in Kingston or our page on supported living for Sutton residents.

Living in, or a fortnight's cover

Live-in care means one carer living in the home, with their own room and daily breaks, providing personal care, meals, medication support and company. Booked for a week or two, the same service gives a husband, wife or adult child who is caring full time a real break; see respite care. Family carers in the Sutton part of Worcester Park can also ask Sutton Council for a carer's assessment.

Worcester Park FAQs

Questions families ask us about Worcester Park. If yours is not here, ask us directly.

Ask a question
Our address is KT4 but we pay council tax to Epsom and Ewell. Does Sutton assess us?

No. Epsom and Ewell is in Surrey, so Surrey County Council handles adult social care for you. Sutton only assesses people who live in the London Borough of Sutton.

Mum is having treatment at the Royal Marsden. Can a carer take her?

Yes, if it is part of her care plan. The S3 bus runs from Worcester Park to the Royal Marsden on Downs Road, so a carer can travel with her, or support her before and after a hospital transport pick-up.

Our street is in the Longfellow parking zone. What do carers do?

The simplest answer for daily visits is a Resident Care Permit, which any of your carers can use in the Longfellow zone with no daily time limit. It is only valid in your own zone, so it won't help a carer who parks round the corner in a different one. Details are on Sutton's carer parking permits page.

Can Dad have a respite stay at your Kingston home rather than at home?

Our supported living homes offer respite stays where they suit the person's needs. Call us to talk through whether the Kingston home is right for him and when there might be space.

Is the small box room in a 1930s semi big enough for a live-in carer?

It can be, if there is room for a bed, storage and some privacy. We look at the room during the assessment and tell you honestly if it would not work.
