Home Care in North Harrow, HA2
Live-in and visiting care for the three-bedroom semis around North Harrow station and Pinner Road, plus support for the husbands, wives and children doing the caring.
Yes, we provide home care in North Harrow. After a free home assessment we write a care plan and arrange a live-in carer, which we can do anywhere in HA2, or visits where we have carers available at the times you need. Our office is in Lewisham, a long way across London, so live-in care is the more dependable choice for daily support.
A suburb that grew out from its station
North Harrow used to be Hooking Green. It became a suburb after the Metropolitan Railway opened North Harrow station in 1915, and the roads were laid out around it over the next twenty years. The station was rebuilt in 1930, and shops now line Station Road and Pinner Road near it. Behind the parades, streets such as Northumberland Road are almost all low-rise 1920s and 1930s semis and terraces, most with three bedrooms and a garden.
For care, that layout is predictable. The bathroom and bedrooms are upstairs, the third bedroom is often a box room, and the front room can become a bedroom if needed. A box room is usually enough for a live-in carer, as long as it is theirs alone. A straight staircase in a semi is usually suitable for a stairlift. We look at the stairs, the bathroom and the front step at the assessment, and say plainly whether a hoist or shower conversion would make the plan safer.
Help for the person doing the caring
North Harrow has an advantage for unpaid carers: Harrow Carers, the charity Harrow Council names as its main support service for carers, is on Pinner Road (376-378 Pinner Road, HA2 6DZ, 020 8868 5224). It offers registration, emotional support, training, a carer card and a dementia carers' service. Age UK Hillingdon, Harrow and Brent runs a free Knitting for Wellbeing club at the same address on Monday afternoons, open to Harrow residents aged 60 and over and to carers.
Separately, you can ask Harrow Council for a carer's assessment of your own needs on 020 8901 2680. The council's unpaid carers page explains it. When you need a proper break, respite care from us can be a carer sitting in for a few hours or a live-in carer covering a week or two while you go away.
Somewhere to walk. Headstone Manor Recreation Ground is a walk north-east of the station, with the moated medieval manor house and Harrow's museum. A companionship visit that includes a slow lap there, or a coffee on Pinner Road, counts as care.
How do I get my mum assessed by Harrow Council in North Harrow?
Ask Harrow Adult Social Care for a care needs assessment. It is free, whatever her savings. You can start online through the council's BetterCare self-assessment tool, phone 020 8901 2680, or email ahadults@harrow.gov.uk. A family member can make the request with her permission. The council's assessment page lists each route.
If she has eligible needs, a financial assessment follows, and she may pay some or all of the cost. NHS Continuing Healthcare covers people whose needs are mainly health needs. If the council's offer doesn't cover everything, or you would like to arrange care privately, we quote in writing after our own assessment. We never quote before seeing the home. If she is coming home from Northwick Park Hospital, the council usually offers its free six-week reablement service first. Our Harrow home care page covers that and direct payments in more detail.
Getting a carer to HA2
North Harrow is one stop from Harrow-on-the-Hill on the Metropolitan line, and West Harrow station is a walk to the south. The H9 and H10 buses stop at the station, and the 183, H18 and H19 run along Pinner Road. From our Lewisham office it is well over an hour each way, which is why we won't promise regular visit times unless a carer living nearer can cover them. Ask, and we will tell you straight. Around the station and parades, controlled parking zones apply, and residents there can buy visitor permits for a carer who drives. Most residential roads further out are unrestricted.

North Harrow FAQs
Questions families ask us about North Harrow. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionShould I register with Harrow Carers before I contact you?
There's no need to wait, but it is worth doing. Harrow Carers on Pinner Road supports you as the carer, and we provide care for your relative. The two work side by side.
Our semi's third bedroom is a box room. Will a live-in carer accept it?
Usually, yes, if it has a proper bed, somewhere to keep their things and a door that closes. We look at the room during the assessment and tell you honestly if it won't work.
My dad has dementia and won't leave the house. Can you still help?
Yes. Dementia care at home often starts with a carer getting to know him indoors before suggesting walks or groups. Harrow Memory Services, through your GP, handles diagnosis if he hasn't been assessed.
Is there a supported living option near North Harrow?
Our nearest supported living home is in Uxbridge. From North Harrow it is one stop to Harrow-on-the-Hill, then a change onto a Metropolitan line train to Uxbridge.
Can visits be fitted around my work hours?
Only if we have a carer free for those exact times in HA2, so ask before you plan around it. A live-in carer gives you full cover without that uncertainty.
