Home Care in Woodford Green, IG8
Care at home for people living off the High Road, around Broadmead Road and Snakes Lane, and out towards Woodford Wells and Woodford Bridge, on the Epping Forest edge of Redbridge.
Yes, we can arrange care at home in Woodford Green. Live-in care is the option we can offer most reliably here, because a live-in carer makes the long journey once and then stays. Regular visiting care depends on whether we have a carer who can reach IG8 consistently, so we check that before we agree to anything. Every package starts with a free assessment at home and a written care plan.
Can you provide home care in Woodford Green from Lewisham?
Honestly, it is a long way. Our only office is on Lewisham High Street in SE13, and we have no base in Redbridge. From there, Woodford is typically 60 to 75 minutes by public transport, out to Stratford and then up the Central line. A carer making that trip twice a day, every day, is hard to sustain.
So for Woodford Green we usually talk first about live-in care. Where someone only needs a few visits a week, or a longer sit-in while a relative goes out, we may well be able to help. Ask us, and we will tell you what we can actually staff.
Large houses on the forest side
Woodford Green grew up as a hamlet of the old Essex parish of Woodford, around the common land that gives it its name. The A104 runs through it as the High Road, with Chigwell Road (the A113) along the east side and Broadmead Road linking the two. Epping Forest runs down the west of the area. On the green itself stands the statue of Winston Churchill, the local MP, put up in 1959.
The houses are some of the most spacious in the borough: interwar three- and four-bedroom semis with long gardens, larger detached Victorian and Edwardian houses, and a scattering of flats. For care at home that is mostly good news. There is usually a spare bedroom for a live-in carer, often room for a hospital bed downstairs, and space to use a hoist safely. The catch is the usual one in a big older house: stairs and a first-floor bathroom.
Live-in care in a Woodford Green home
A live-in carer moves into the spare room and provides care through the day: personal care, meals, medication, housework and company. It suits people who are no longer safe alone for long stretches, and couples who want to stay together, since one carer can support both partners. The carer needs their own bedroom and proper breaks, which we plan with you at the assessment.
Coming home from Whipps Cross. For the Woodfords, the usual acute hospital is Whipps Cross in Leytonstone, run by Barts Health, not King George in Goodmayes. Before discharge the ward contacts Redbridge Adult Social Care to plan support, and short-term reablement may come first. If live-in care is likely to be needed afterwards, ring us while the discharge is still being planned. Our hospital discharge page explains how we fit in.
Stations, buses and parking in IG8
Woodford station on the Central line has two entrances: the main one off The Broadway, and a second on Snakes Lane East that closes at 9pm, which matters for a carer arriving late. The eastbound and westbound platforms are reached from different sides, so changing between them means a short walk round by the street. Woodford Bridge and Woodford Wells have no station, so carers there depend on buses: the 20, 179, 275 and W13 all run along the High Road through Woodford Green. If a carer drives, check if your street is inside a controlled parking zone on the council's permit parking map; Redbridge offers no permit for home care workers, so a resident's visitor permit is the usual answer.
Respite for the family carer
If a spouse or son or daughter is doing most of the caring, a short live-in stay can cover a holiday or a hospital stay of their own. Redbridge Council arranges respite only after a carer's assessment, which is free; you can request one online. Redbridge Carers Support Service in Ilford gives advice to carers alongside that. Our respite care in Redbridge page has the detail.
How much does home care cost in Woodford Green?
We do not publish prices. We give a written quote after the assessment, based on the care plan. Whether the council contributes depends on two things: a Care Act needs assessment from Redbridge Adult Social Services, and a financial assessment if needs are eligible. Even if you expect to pay privately, the needs assessment is free whatever someone's finances, and it gives you an independent view of what care is needed. Ask for it through the Adult Care contact page or on 020 8708 7333. If needs are mainly health needs, ask the GP or ward about NHS Continuing Healthcare. Our Redbridge home care page covers the borough-wide picture.

Woodford Green questions
Questions families ask us about Woodford Green. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionDo you cover Woodford Bridge and Woodford Wells as well?
Yes, for live-in care. Both share the IG8 postcode, and neither has a station, so visiting care there is even more dependent on carer availability than in Woodford Green itself.
Mum's house has four bedrooms but she only uses the ground floor. Can a live-in carer use one of the upstairs rooms?
Usually, yes, provided the carer can still hear or be alerted if she needs help at night. We look at the layout at the assessment and may suggest a monitor or a different room.
Can a carer take Dad out to Epping Forest or round the green?
Yes, if it is safe and in his care plan. A slow walk on a firm path, or a wheelchair outing, is a proper part of companionship care.
Dad was admitted to Whipps Cross, not a Redbridge hospital. Does Redbridge still assess him?
Yes. The hospital is in Waltham Forest, but social care follows where he lives. The ward contacts Redbridge Adult Social Care to plan his discharge home to IG8.
