Live-in Care in Bounds Green
One carer living in, so a husband and wife, or a parent on their own, can stay in the family house off Bounds Green Road, N11 and N22.
Yes, we provide live-in care in Bounds Green, for one person or for a couple. A carer moves into the spare room, helps with daily life and personal care, and is in the house overnight. Jackie, our registered manager, carries out a free assessment at home first, and we agree a written care plan with you before the carer arrives.
When both of you need some help
Bounds Green is a quiet, settled corner of Haringey with a long-established older population. Sometimes it is not one person who needs help but two: one partner with dementia or after a stroke, the other managing until their own health gives way. A single live-in carer can support both. The care plan sets out each person's needs separately, for example washing, dressing and continence care for one, and cooking, shopping and a steady arm on the walk to Bounds Green Road for the other.
Keeping the couple together at home also keeps the routine they know: the same chairs, the same neighbours, the same GP. If the partner who has been doing the caring wants support in their own right, Carers First (0300 303 1555) runs Haringey's service for unpaid carers.
The spare room you probably already have
Bounds Green's Edwardian and inter-war terraces and semis were built as family houses, and once the children have left there is usually a bedroom free. That makes live-in care simpler to set up here than in much of central and eastern Haringey. The room needs a proper bed and space for the carer's things, and the carer shares the kitchen and bathroom.
The purpose-built flats in the area vary. A two-bedroom flat can work if the second room is free; a one-bedroom flat cannot. In that case, ask about our visiting care in Bounds Green, which depends on having a carer available at the times you need.
Stairs, stairlifts and the upstairs bathroom
These houses usually have their only bathroom upstairs. For a couple where one partner can no longer climb, that shapes the whole plan. A straight staircase in an inter-war semi can often take a stairlift. A hoist needs space around the bed, which a back bedroom may not have. Where a council occupational therapy assessment is needed, we suggest you ask for it early. A live-in carer can follow any moving and handling plan once the equipment is in, and can help the partner who is still mobile with the stairs as well.
Check the council first. Bounds Green straddles the boundaries of Haringey, Enfield and Barnet. Funding, assessments and equipment come from the council that sends the council tax bill, so check it before applying. We provide live-in care in all three.
Arriving and handing over
N11 is near the far end of Haringey from SE13, but for live-in care that only matters on changeover day, when the incoming carer comes up the Piccadilly line to Bounds Green with their luggage, or by Great Northern train to Bowes Park. Neither journey needs a car, and once the carer has arrived they stay.
Parking is relatively easy for family who drive over for a handover. The Bounds Green zone is controlled only from 10am to noon on weekdays, and Bounds Green East from 11am to 1pm, so outside those two hours on weekdays, and at weekends, the zone's controls do not apply.
The carer's break: a park, a library, a high street
Every day the carer has time off. The O. R. Tambo Recreation Ground, still called the Albert Road Rec by many locals, has a pavilion café and toilets. Alexandra Park Library on Alexandra Park Road is close by for a quieter hour indoors, and the shops on Bounds Green Road are a few minutes away. With a couple, the break is often easier to cover, because one partner can be company for the other; the care plan states whether that is safe.
Which hospital will we be discharged from?
Bounds Green sits between the two catchments, so an admission may end up at North Middlesex University Hospital in Edmonton or at the Whittington in Archway. For a couple, the difficult part can start before discharge: the partner left at home may be managing alone while also trying to visit the ward. A live-in carer can start with the partner at home and be settled in by the time the other comes back. Ring us when the ward first raises discharge. See hospital discharge support.
Funding pointers
For a Haringey address, the council's needs and financial assessments come first, and if it agrees a personal budget you can take it as a direct payment and use it for live-in care with us. With a couple, each partner is assessed separately. Our Haringey live-in care page covers the council route and how the home is treated, and live-in care in London explains the basics. Self-funders get a written quote after the free assessment.

Bounds Green live-in care questions
Questions families ask us about Bounds Green. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionDoes live-in care for a couple cost twice as much?
No, it is one carer. The cost reflects the help both of you need, and we set it out in writing after the assessment. We don't give prices over the phone.
My wife has dementia and I have a bad hip. Who does the carer answer to?
To both of you, and to us. The care plan records what you each want, and where your wife cannot decide something herself, we agree with you and any family how her wishes are respected.
Our only bathroom is upstairs. Can live-in care still work?
Often, with a stairlift, a commode downstairs or a temporary bed in the front room. We look at the house at the assessment and suggest asking the council for an occupational therapy visit if equipment is needed.
If one of us goes into hospital, does the carer stay?
Yes, the carer stays with the partner at home, and the care plan is adjusted while the other is in North Middlesex or the Whittington. When they come home, we review it again.
Our son lives in Barnet. Can he be the main contact?
Yes. With your agreement he can be named in the care plan, receive updates and join the reviews, by phone or in person.
