Live-in Care in Bush Hill Park

For couples and long-settled owners in the two-storey houses either side of the railway who want to stay put, with a carer living in the spare bedroom.

Yes, we arrange live-in care in Bush Hill Park, EN1, wherever the home has a bedroom the carer can use as their own. One carer lives in and supports a single person or both members of a couple, following a care plan written after Jackie's free assessment at the house. We are based in Lewisham, but with a carer living in, that distance does not affect day-to-day care.

Finding the carer's room in a Bush Hill Park house

Most homes here have two storeys and were built between the 1880s and the First World War. That shapes where everyone sleeps.

West of the railway, the larger semis and detached houses usually have a spare bedroom already. The question is more often whether the person who needs care should move downstairs, into a back reception room, so that the carer's room and the bathroom are upstairs and the stairs are only climbed when it is safe.

East of the railway, the terraces are smaller. A two-bedroom terrace where a couple shares one room leaves the second for the carer, which works. A two-bedroom terrace where each partner sleeps separately leaves nowhere, and that needs talking through before anything else is arranged.

One carer can support both partners in a couple, giving personal care to one and help with meals and the stairs to the other. If the partner who has been doing the caring is worn out, the plan should cover them too, and Enfield Carers Centre can assess them as a carer in their own right and runs carers' breaks. We assess both of you together and write one plan and one quote for the household.

A carer's room does not have to be large. It needs a proper bed, storage for their clothes, a door that closes and somewhere to charge a phone. They also need use of the kitchen and bathroom and wifi to keep in touch with family.

Where do the bed and hoist go in a terrace?

If the stairs stop being safe, the bed comes down, and in Bush Hill Park the choice is usually between the front room and the back reception room. East of the railway the rooms are small, and a hospital bed, a mobile hoist and space for the carer to work on both sides may not all fit in the front room. The back room, nearer the kitchen, is sometimes the better fit. West of the line the rooms are bigger, but the bathroom is still upstairs, so washing at a basin, or a downstairs shower if one can be fitted, becomes part of the plan. We measure at the assessment. Ask Enfield Adult Social Care for an occupational therapist's visit before buying equipment.

Arriving with a suitcase at Bush Hill Park station

Carers coming or going at a changeover will usually use Bush Hill Park station on the Overground Weaver line, one stop from Enfield Town and from Edmonton Green. National Rail lists some step-free access to both platforms, with no lifts, and the ticket office is open on weekday mornings only. A carer leaving with luggage at a weekend should not expect to find staff. Live departures and access details are on the National Rail station page.

Much of Bush Hill Park is inside a controlled parking zone. If a relative drives the carer in, they will need one of the household's visitor vouchers to use a residents' bay during controlled hours.

The carer's break, close to home

A live-in carer needs a protected break every day. The shops near the station are handy for a coffee or an errand, and the quiet residential streets make a short walk easy. The local John Jackson Library on Agricola Place was one of seven Enfield closed in July 2025, so the nearest library is now Enfield Town, one stop up the line, which also has the market and the New River walks for an outing with the person on a good day.

Funding and visiting care. The council needs assessment, the means test and direct payments are explained on our Enfield live-in care page. If there is no room for a carer, see home care in Bush Hill Park, or read about live-in care in London generally. We quote in writing after the free assessment.

Bush Hill Park live-in care questions

Questions families ask us about Bush Hill Park. If yours is not here, ask us directly.

Ask a question
Dad needs hoisting and Mum has early dementia. Is one carer enough?

It depends on the hoist. If Dad's transfers need two people, a single live-in carer cannot do them safely alone, and extra help would be needed at those times. Mum's support can usually fit around his care. We will be specific after seeing them both.

Mum wants to keep sleeping upstairs. Can the carer's room be next to hers?

Yes, as long as the stairs are safe for her with help or with a stairlift. Having the carer across the landing helps if she calls out, though regular help through the night is a different arrangement and needs planning.

The station ticket office is only open on weekday mornings. Can a carer still get help there?

Yes. Anyone who needs help boarding can book passenger assistance in advance through National Rail or the operator. Carers travel only at changeovers, and we plan those around the train times.

Does the carer need to share the bathroom with my parents?

In a two-storey house with one bathroom, yes. That is normal for live-in care. We agree times in the care plan so the person's own routine comes first.
