Home Care in Kenton, HA3
Care at home in the interwar streets either side of Kenton Lane, a short ride from Northwick Park Hospital, with live-in carers who can keep your family's kitchen and routines as they are.
Yes, we provide home care in Kenton. It starts with a free assessment in the home and a written care plan, and then either a live-in carer, which we can arrange anywhere on the Harrow side of Kenton, or visiting care where we have carers free for the hours you need. Kenton is a long way from our Lewisham office, so for care every day, live-in is usually the arrangement we can promise.
Which council: Harrow or Brent?
Kenton Road is the boundary. Roughly, the streets to the north, around Kenton Lane and the Kenmore Park area, are in Harrow, and the streets to the south, including South Kenton, are in Brent. Both sides share HA3, so check a council tax bill. This page covers the Harrow side. If your relative is on the Brent side, our Brent home care page explains that council's route.
For Harrow addresses, a care needs assessment is free whatever your relative's income or savings. You can start it online, ring Adult Social Care on 020 8901 2680, or email ahadults@harrow.gov.uk, and a relative can ask on someone's behalf with their permission. The council explains the steps on its care needs assessment page. Our Harrow home care page covers direct payments and the rest of the borough.
Will Harrow Council pay for home care in Kenton?
It may contribute. If the needs assessment finds eligible needs, a separate financial assessment works out how much your relative pays, and Harrow sets out the means test on its paying for care page. Where needs are mainly health needs, NHS Continuing Healthcare may pay instead. We don't publish prices. We quote in writing after our assessment, once we know what the care involves, and our paying for care guide explains the options.
Coming home from Northwick Park
Northwick Park Hospital, on Watford Road just west of Kenton, is the A&E and main hospital for Harrow, so it is where most Kenton residents are admitted and discharged. No other Harrow neighbourhood is as close: the H9 and H10 buses link the hospital and Kenton, and Northwick Park station (Metropolitan line) is next to the site.
Before discharge, Harrow Council usually offers reablement: free, not means-tested, up to six weeks, with council workers helping someone relearn bathing, cooking and getting about. If your relative is likely to need longer-term care once that ends, or doesn't qualify for it, ring us while they are still on the ward. Our hospital discharge page explains what we can set up.
Keep the kitchen as it was. Kenton Road's long parade of Gujarati and South Asian grocers and restaurants is part of everyday life here, and the area has temples, a Jain derasar, churches and a synagogue within a short distance. If your mother keeps a vegetarian or Jain kitchen, or a parent goes to a weekly service, write it into the care plan at the assessment.
Kenton's houses, and what they mean for care
Most of Kenton went up between the wars as Metroland. Builders such as T. F. Nash and the Costin firm put up much of the private housing, and estate agents still advertise "Nash-built" semis. To the north, the London County Council built the Kenmore Park cottage estate of terraced houses.
Either way, the bedrooms and bathroom are usually upstairs, and there is usually a spare bedroom or box room. That spare room is what makes live-in care work, because a live-in carer needs a room of their own. Where the stairs have become a problem, the usual answers are a stairlift, a bed brought down to the front room, or an occupational therapy assessment through the council for rails and equipment.
Live-in care and visits from SE13
Getting a visiting carer to Kenton from south-east London takes well over an hour each way. The Bakerloo line and the Overground Lioness line stop at Kenton station on Kenton Road, and the Metropolitan line stops at Northwick Park. Buses through Kenton include the 114, the 183 and the 223 between Harrow and Wembley. So we only promise visit times we can staff; a live-in carer makes the journey once. Around the stations there are controlled parking zones, and Harrow sells visitor permits residents can use for a visiting carer. Most residential streets further out are uncontrolled.
A break for the family
Respite care can be a sit-in for an afternoon or a live-in carer for a fortnight while you travel. Harrow Council offers unpaid carers a carer's assessment on 020 8901 2680, and Harrow Carers in North Harrow is the borough's carers' charity.

Kenton questions
Questions families ask us about Kenton. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionMy father lives just south of Kenton Road. Is that still Harrow?
Probably not. South of Kenton Road is generally Brent, so his assessment would go through Brent Adult Social Care. We cover both sides, and the care itself is the same. Only the council route changes.
Mum is in Northwick Park now. When should we call you?
As soon as discharge is being discussed. If the ward is offering Harrow reablement, care from us can follow when it ends. For a live-in arrangement, we need time to complete the assessment and match a carer before she comes home.
Can a live-in carer cook vegetarian Gujarati food the way my grandmother likes it?
We will tell you honestly what the carer we propose can cook, and the care plan will record her dishes, ingredients and kitchen rules.
Our Kenmore Park house is small. Is there room for live-in care?
If there is a second bedroom the carer can use as their own, yes. A sofa bed in the lounge isn't enough. If there isn't one, visiting care, where we have carers available, is the option to discuss.
