Home Care in Pinner, HA5

Live-in care, and visiting care where a carer is free to make the journey, for Pinner village, Pinner Hill, the Pinnerwood Park Estate and the avenues off Marsh Road and Love Lane.

Yes, we provide home care in Pinner, and in practice it is usually arranged as live-in care. We start with a free assessment at home and a written care plan, then a carer moves in, so the distance from our Lewisham office stops mattering. Regular visiting calls are possible only where we have a carer free for the times you need, so ask us before you plan around them.

A medieval village with Metroland around it

Pinner has two characters. The old village runs up the High Street to St John the Baptist church, which was consecrated in 1321, and the street still hosts Pinner Fair every year under a charter Edward III granted in 1336. Around that core the Metropolitan Railway brought the 1920s and 30s: wide avenues of detached and semi-detached houses, the Pinnerwood Park garden estate, and the steeper roads climbing to Pinner Hill.

For care, those big interwar houses are mostly good news. They usually have a spare bedroom, a drive and a garden. The difficulties are the usual Metroland ones: a staircase with a turn at the top, the only bathroom upstairs, and a bath where a level shower would be safer. A few older cottages near the High Street have narrower stairs and doorways still. Closer to the station, along Marsh Road and Bridge Street, there are flats and retirement blocks with lifts, which are a very different job.

Getting a carer to HA5

Pinner station has been on the Metropolitan line since 1885, and Hatch End on the Lioness line is just to the north-east. Buses 183, H11, H12 and H13 serve the area. From Lewisham High Street it is London Bridge, the Jubilee line to Baker Street and a Metropolitan line train out, which takes well over an hour each way. A package of three short calls a day cannot run on that journey, and we would rather say so now than miss visits later.

Parking is the easy part. There is a controlled parking zone near the station and the shops, but most residential streets are uncontrolled. If you are inside a zone, Harrow sells visitor permits you can use for a carer's car.

How much does home care cost in Pinner?

We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the care plan, and we cannot write one before we have met the person. You get a written quote after the free assessment. If you would like Harrow Council to help, ask for a needs assessment. It is free whatever your savings, can be started online through the council's BetterCare tool or by phoning 020 8901 2680, and is followed by a financial assessment. Details are on the council's adult social care page and on our Harrow home care page. Where the main need is health, the NHS may pay through NHS Continuing Healthcare.

Live-in care in a Pinner house

A live-in carer needs their own bedroom with a proper bed and a door that closes, plus a daily break. Most Pinner semis already have that. One carer can look after a couple, with full personal care for one and lighter help for the other. Many of the houses have long gardens and the village has Pinner Memorial Park, so a slow walk out is part of the day, not an extra.

A break for the family carer

If you are the one caring, a live-in carer can cover a holiday, an operation of your own or simply a fortnight off. That is our respite care. Ask Harrow Council for a carer's assessment as well. Harrow Carers, the charity the council names for unpaid carers, is on Pinner Road in North Harrow, a short bus ride south.

Coming home from hospital? Most Pinner residents are admitted to Northwick Park, though some on the northern edge end up at Watford General. Harrow's reablement service is free for up to six weeks after a hospital stay. Ring us while the ward is still planning the discharge and we will tell you what we can cover after that. See our hospital discharge support.

Pinner FAQs

Pinner questions

Questions families ask us about Pinner. If yours is not here, ask us directly.

Ask a question
Mum has a retirement flat near Pinner station. Can a carer just visit her there?

Possibly. Visiting care in Pinner depends on whether we have a carer free who can make the trip at the times she needs. Give us the address and the times and we will give you a straight answer. A flat with a lift is also easier to support than a house with stairs.

We live up on Pinner Hill. Is that too far out?

No. Live-in care works the same on Pinner Hill as in the village, and the roads up there are steep but the houses are usually large enough for a carer's room. If someone is unsteady, the slope outside matters as much as the stairs inside, and we will plan walks around it.

Dad loves the Pinner Fair and the Heath Robinson Museum. Can a carer take him?

Yes, getting out is part of the care plan. A companion or live-in carer can go with him to the fair, the museum in Pinner Memorial Park or the High Street cafés, at a pace that suits him.

Is any of your supported living close to Pinner?

Our nearest home is in Uxbridge. From Pinner it is a Metropolitan line journey with a change at Harrow-on-the-Hill onto the Uxbridge branch, or roughly half an hour by car. Details of all three homes are on our supported living page.
