Home Care in Hayes, UB3 and UB4
Personal care, medication support, companionship and live-in care for older and disabled people in Hayes Town, Hayes End and Yeading, arranged after a free home assessment.
Yes, we provide home care in Hayes. Live-in care is available across UB3 and UB4, and visiting care is possible here more often than elsewhere in Hillingdon, because the Elizabeth line links Hayes and Harlington directly to Canary Wharf. It always starts with a free home assessment and a written care plan, and we tell you at that visit whether we have a carer who can cover the visits you need.
Can a visiting carer really get to Hayes from Lewisham?
Sometimes, which is more than we can say for most of Hillingdon. Our office is on Lewisham High Street. From there the DLR to Canary Wharf and the Elizabeth line west reach Hayes and Harlington in roughly an hour to 70 minutes door to door. That is workable for a longer daytime call, such as a mid-morning visit for a wash, breakfast and medication, or an afternoon sit-in while a daughter goes to work.
Early calls, late tuck-in visits and fixed times seven days a week are harder. For those, a live-in carer is usually more reliable.
Three places called Hayes
Hayes Town grew up around the station and the Grand Union Canal, where EMI once pressed records. That site is now the Old Vinyl Factory, and new blocks of flats have gone up around the station since the Elizabeth line arrived. North of the Uxbridge Road, Hayes End and Yeading are mostly interwar terraces and semis with council estates between them.
Each brings its own problems for care. In the new flats, a broken lift can strand someone who cannot manage stairs. In the terraces, the bathroom is usually up a narrow staircase, so a downstairs commode or a bed in the front room is a common stopgap. The semis often have a box room, enough for a live-in carer if it takes a proper bed.
Parking is easier than in inner London. Most residential streets are free to park on, but there are permit schemes near the town centre and station. If a carer will be driving to you, the council's parking permits service issues carers' permits and visitor vouchers.
Hayes has more on the doorstep than most of the borough. Age UK Hillingdon, Harrow and Brent runs its clubs from Townfield Community Centre on Townfield Road. The council's Dementia Resource Centre is at Grassy Meadow Court on Grange Road, with places agreed by a social worker. The Alzheimer's Society holds a dementia cafe in Hayes, Botwell Green Library hosts a council dementia group, and the council's dementia pages list dementia-friendly film screenings at the Beck Theatre on Grange Road. A companionship visit can include getting there and back.
How do I get Hillingdon Council to assess my mum in Hayes?
Contact Hillingdon Social Care Direct, the council's front door for adult social care, on 01895 556633 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm), or start the online form on the council's applying for social care page. If you are making the request for her, she needs to agree, unless she lacks capacity and it is in her best interests. Our Hillingdon home care page sets out the whole council route, including direct payments.
If she is coming home from Hillingdon Hospital on Pield Heath Road, tell the ward early that you are arranging private or extra care. Our hospital discharge support page explains how we fit around a discharge date.
How much does home care cost in Hayes?
We do not publish prices; the cost depends on the visits or live-in arrangement, and we confirm it in writing after the assessment. If the council finds your mum eligible, a financial assessment decides how much she contributes, and her personal budget can be paid as a direct payment so she can choose her provider. Where needs are mainly health needs, ask about NHS Continuing Healthcare. Our paying for care guide explains both routes.
Live-in care and short breaks
Live-in care works anywhere in Hayes as long as there is a spare bedroom for the carer. For a family carer who needs a break, a live-in carer can cover a week or two as respite care. The council's carer's assessment can lead to a respite budget, and Age UK Hillingdon, Harrow and Brent runs a dementia sitting service that gives carers a few hours off.

Hayes questions
Questions families ask us about Hayes. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionDad goes to the Dementia Resource Centre at Grassy Meadow Court twice a week. Can you cover the other days?
That is a sensible way to build a week. The day centre place comes through his social worker; our dementia care can cover the mornings before and the days in between, or a live-in carer can handle all of it. We plan around the centre's days at the assessment.
Mum lives in a new flat by Hayes and Harlington station. Is there anything we should check?
Check the lift and the building's access arrangements. Carers need a reliable way in, such as a key safe or a fob, and the plan needs a fallback for days the lift is out. If she might need a live-in carer later, a second bedroom is the deciding factor.
Mum lives in Hayes End and likes to get the bus into Uxbridge. Can a carer go with her?
Yes. The 427 runs along the Uxbridge Road from Hayes End to Uxbridge, so a trip to the shops or the library can be part of a companionship visit or a live-in carer's week. We plan it around how far she can walk to the stop.
We live in Yeading, north of the Uxbridge Road. Do you count that as Hayes?
Yes. We cover Yeading and Hayes End (UB4) as well as Hayes Town (UB3). The journey from the station is longer, so ask us about visiting availability for your street.
