Home Care in Yiewsley, West Drayton UB7
Visiting and live-in care along Yiewsley High Street, Falling Lane, Horton Road and the new flats by the Grand Union Canal, just north of West Drayton station.
Yes, we provide home care in Yiewsley, for older people and for adults with physical disabilities or sensory impairments. Yiewsley is on the Elizabeth line, so it is one of the easier parts of Hillingdon for our carers to reach, although visits still depend on carer availability and live-in care is always an option. A free home assessment comes first.
Can a carer get to Yiewsley from Lewisham?
More easily than to most of Hillingdon. West Drayton station stands at the southern end of Yiewsley High Street, on the Elizabeth line service that runs from Abbey Wood to Reading. A carer from south-east London can go straight through without crossing central London on the Tube, and the door-to-door journey from our Lewisham office is about seventy minutes. That is still long, so tell us the times you need and we'll tell you honestly which ones we can cover. Longer visits are easier to staff than several short ones.
Brickfields, canal wharves and new flats
Yiewsley grew up on bricks and the canal. The Grand Junction Canal, now the Grand Union, opened through here in 1794, docks were dug off it, and the brickfields turned out London stock bricks until the last works closed in the 1930s. Otterfield Road, Otter Way, Liddall Way and Clayfield Way are named after that industry. St Matthew's Church, designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott, has stood since 1859, and Key House on the High Street was once the town hall of the Yiewsley and West Drayton Urban District.
Today the housing falls into three groups, and each changes the care plan:
- Victorian and Edwardian terraces off the High Street: steep stairs, narrow hallways and an upstairs bathroom, so equipment and ground-floor living need thinking through.
- Post-war council homes: often simpler layouts, but check who to ask about adaptations if the home is rented.
- New apartment blocks by the canal, built on former industrial land: lifts and level access suit wheelchair users, but building access for carers needs arranging, and a one-bedroom flat has no room for a live-in carer.
GPs, nurses and Hillingdon Hospital
Yiewsley Health Centre on the High Street houses two GP practices, and Otterfield Medical Centre is on Otterfield Road. District nurses for housebound patients come from CNWL's Hillingdon community health services, usually referred through the GP. Hillingdon Hospital, the borough's only A&E, is a short bus ride north on Pield Heath Road. It is due to be rebuilt on the same site, so expect some services to move around the site in the meantime. If your relative is being discharged, call us during discharge planning and see our hospital discharge support.
Our Uxbridge home is a few miles away. We run a supported living home in Uxbridge, one of three, which takes permanent residents and short respite stays. From Yiewsley it is a short trip north by bus or car.
Getting the council involved
Yiewsley is in the London Borough of Hillingdon. To request a needs assessment, contact Hillingdon Social Care Direct on 01895 556633 (weekdays, 9am to 5pm), email socialcaredirect@hillingdon.gov.uk, or use the online apply for care and support form. A personal budget can be paid as a direct payment on a pre-paid card and spent with a provider you choose. If you pay privately, we give a written quote after our assessment. Our Hillingdon home care page sets out the borough-wide picture.
Live-in care
A live-in carer needs their own bedroom. Two- and three-bedroom terraces and council houses usually have one, and so do some of the larger canal-side flats. Live-in care also suits complex care needs and couples who want to stay together at home.
Respite
Parents looking after an adult son or daughter with a disability can ask Hillingdon for a carer's assessment of their own. For adults with severe or complex learning and physical disabilities, the council's Queens Walk Resource Centre offers day places, agreed through a social worker, which can give the family regular time back. Carers Trust Hillingdon (01895 811206) advises on breaks, and we can cover a holiday with a short live-in placement or, if it suits, a short stay at our Uxbridge home: see respite care.

Yiewsley FAQs
Questions families ask us about Yiewsley. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Ask a questionMy son uses a wheelchair and lives in a new flat by the canal. Do you support younger adults?
Yes. Our CQC registration covers adults under 65 as well as older people, including people with physical disabilities and sensory impairments. We plan the care around his routine, not around a set list of tasks.
Dad has outpatient appointments at Hillingdon Hospital. Can a carer take him on the bus?
Yes. The U1, U3 and U5 all run from Yiewsley High Street to Hillingdon Hospital, so a carer can go with him without a car. Tell us his appointment pattern at the assessment so the visits can be planned around it.
Mum's terrace off the High Street has a steep staircase and the bathroom upstairs. What can be done?
Ask Hillingdon for an occupational therapy assessment; a stairlift, rails or a downstairs commode are common answers. We fit the care plan around whatever equipment is put in.
Dad is over 65. Can he park nearer the shops when a carer drives him?
Hillingdon gives over-65 residents a free Brown Badge for dedicated bays in council car parks. It is separate from the national Blue Badge.
